For how aggressively masculine their marketing is for the wrangler, they seem to be exclusively driven by middle aged women
"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things and got a truck instead of a Jeep."
Middle aged women? I feel like I see a lot more teenage and 20-something females driving Wranglers.
It's basically the VW cabrio to the modern set.
Eh, I agree with your point but also see a lot of legit mountaineers in the Denver area with Jeeps.
I live in Breckenridge, Colorado and they are pretty common up here for actual off road mountain stuff. Tacoma's are much more popular though.
Jeep wins.
They could have OJ on a commercial bemoaning how he could have used that horsepower
You ever see Frank Caliendo do a John Madden impression? I swear, you’d think it was him!
Can they buy the Lions too!
I guess I’m unimpressed by the ads.
Are they going to put these on TV, or is this just targeted on twitter? Because I bet a lot of people don't know about Bronco, or won't make the connection (people are busy with a lot of life things). And in that context it just looks like you're being a dick to horses.
I saw the 450hp ad on TV last night.
I had to watch a Wrangler ad before being able to watch the Bronco release last night, which I thought was pretty clever...also shows that they are well aware that Bronco is a legit competitor in this segment.
Competition is good, Jeep has basically had this market cornered since the FJ Cruiser was discontinued. I look forward to the battles and innovations that will come from this.
I think the Bronco is much more likely to be successful than the FJ solely based on looks and nostalgia.
I rented a Jeep on an island (Nantucket? Martha's Vineyard?) years ago and it was fun. For about 30 mins. Then my kidneys hurt.
No idea how adults drive those things every day.
I see people driving those up north on 75 and wonder what in the hell they are thinking. Super loud and uncomfortable.
Had one for 8 years. Taken it on a few trips that were no more than 3 hours along with two kids. (It's a 4-door). While not the most spacious we made do and didn't have any problems. We have never done any off-roading, but once we discovered all the upgrades that can be done, and taking the doors off in the summer, I absolutely love driving it everywhere around the city.
We thought about renting one last year when we took a four day trip to Santa Fe. We were going to be doing a lot of driving around the surrounding area (Taos, Los Alamos, Bandolier, etc.) and thought it would be a really fun way to take in the landscape, the mountains, and everything else.
We ultimately decided against it, mostly because I didn't realize it would still be in the 40-50s in Santa Fe in April, but I also couldn't believe how flipping expensive it was to rent a Jeep. I think it was somewhere between $150-$175 per day. Might as well have rented a BMW.
I paid about $100 IIRC, but this was probably 20 years ago. I remember being pretty pissed about it and getting the "don't be a cheap bastard" look.
It was a nice way to see the island, but next time I'd just rent a normal convertible. Or some scooters.
Years ago and current JKU/JKL are two entirely different beasts. My wife was not excited when I got rid of my XJs and bought a JKU. She wasn't big on the XJs, but her experience in Wrangler/CJ/TJ's was that it was a loud and bouncy pain in the arse to ride in. Now she's all like, Are we taking the sweet ride?
I've pulled my boat on trips up to 5k miles, and I also do some mild off-roading in it, traveling to hunting and fishing jumping-off points.
The only thing that really sucks about driving a Wrangler is all the other Wrangler drivers waving at me like we're buds cuz we bought the same car. I did not sign up for the waving. XJ drivers do not do the waving.
Miata drivers do that too. And also hang out by your car to talk you into joining the local club.
Plus everything to this. I remember taking my first ride in one years ago, thinking how cool to finally get in one of these. I actually thought my buddy's Jeep was broken, asked him if the shocks were out. It's a see-me vehicle, and I don't mean that in a bad way. Really cool to have such an open cabin in nice weather. But the ride is abysmal.
If the Bronco has the open layout but not the jerky ride, they'll get a lot of customers. But I've never been in a Bronco before, so maybe they're the same.
It's literally the worst riding, water leaking, wind/road noisiest car in mass production today. There is nothing else even close. I say this as someone who's wife has had two, a bare bones one and a very well equipped Sahara. I get the appeal of having a 10 year old one to drive around town/beach/go offroading, don't get me wrong. People paying 40, 50k+ for one of these things is unbelievable when you consider other new midsize SUV's that can buy you. We finally decided in our mid 30's that we don't care about being cool anymore and she got a vehicle that performs like it was designed this millennium.
I admit I'm already an FCA fanboy but these made me chuckle - thanks.
Love the new Bronco. I really like cars but I'm to rational to buy any non-utilitarian car. The Bronco is almost enough for me to buy a fun car. Love the nostalgia of it.
I would probably say the same thing about jeeps if I didn't seem them daily.
I’m also like cars really to.
But I like the ones that have 2 seats & corner hard. Also, I’m irrational.
I like the the new Bronco but wish it was a full-size. I get that they see a market with really only one entry (Jeep) and the first generation Bronco was as source of inspiration but I loved those old f150 broncos that were convertible. Side note: why are jeeps so expensive I mean for what they are not much to them.
The market lets Jeeps charge what they charge. They are the only game in town.
I love the 30k base model + the big engine option. A good friend has a jeep that's basically a luxury car with removable doors. I don't get it, but to each their own.
One of "Big 3" ongoing problem is that they continue to look at each other as the competition rather than Toyota, Honda, etc
I don’t have a HORSE in the race because I work for Mercedes-Benz. But I am interested with the competition this is going to bring. The Bronco seems like a worthy competitor.
Awesome, they trolled Ford with concepts. If they ever actually put that much power in a Jeep, a lot of people will kill themselves.
Fiat Chrysler? Meh. Ford Broncos? Sold out.
Jeep Wrangler drivers are already the most enormous assholes on the road.
So I give a hearty
FUCK NO TO THE RUBICON 392!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
