Going to the OSU/PSU Game: Unsure of Protocol

Ok, this is a tough one.

Just got the opportunity to sit with ohio friends in some pretty spectacular seats for the osu/PSU game.  Mind you, the decision means I'm abandoning other friends with whom I was planning to hang out with to watch us smash sparty.  And I was also planning on BBQ'ing ribs (which I'm known for) so I kinda feel bad about that.  But hey, how often do we get to see #3 against #7, especially in a matchup which so directly impacts Michigan?

My question for my Michigan brethren.  This is kosher, right?  Missing a Michigan rivalry game to see ohio play in that shit-tank of a stadium?  And if my case is made any better, I do plan on wearing a Michigan jersey.  Though, to be fair, it'll be my Adidas Tate Forcier jersey which I trot out from time to time just to be funny.  Plus, I don't care if someone spills a beer on it.  Have you guys ever watched osu play in a huge game which "wasn't" Michigan?

You're fine.  Wear Maize and Blue.  Don't cheer when either team does something good.

Edit: Here's my suggestion for you to throw shade in both directions...

Hopefully it'll be the kind of game that you can tell your grandkids about. "I was there for that crazy 42 lateral, last-second TD that (insert team here) miraculously pulled off to win the game! Craziest thing I ever done saw with mine own two eyes, I tell you what."

Don't go to their stadium - don't give them any revenue.  Watch the UM game and enable others to do so, however you can best achieve that.

... and maybe avoid that hole just in case a meteor decides to join the event.

As much as I would hate it, I would probably cheer for OSU. Your buddies are giving you the seats, plus you can wear the Michigan gear and not get into sucker-punched by a mouth-breather.  Also, it's nice to beat an undefeated OSU ranked #2 in the country. No one forgets that.

Wear your Michigan jersey. Bring a book. Sit there reading through the entire game. When the crowd starts cheering wildly over the action on the field, look up and say "Did something happen?" Whatever the answer is, reply "Oh ... that's nice," and go back to reading.

Hey. they already think we're arrogant. You might as well use it.

The MGoBlog 'Driving Through Ohio' shirt would be appropriate under your jersey.  Hope you have a good time, it should be a really tough game.  Definitely will be tough running the ball, so the tougher team should probably win.  Just be aware that in Toughtown, your tough guy Forcier jersey will be lost on the hometown tuffs - they won't even know who Tate is, let alone the inside joke.  They'll just notice the maize & blue and see red, immediately standing straighter and looking down past their upraised nose trying to look tough.  They'll assume you're tough, because they know they were out-toughed last year during their one bad half, so they might assert their toughness.

Hope you don't have a tough time with traffic...

God d*mn, this is brilliant.  I'm literally taking notes.  Question if I may: You make a solid point on the Tate Toughguy point, with them not getting the joke.  Do I regress and move forward with my original plan of just going with the maize "Worst State Ever" t-shirt?  I resisted that because it seemed too easy.  You know, not tough enough.

I'd refrain from giving the tough guys a reason to hate that they can actually understand.  I don't care how tough you are, there will be 90,000 truck drivers in the crowd and one person isn't going to out-tough 90,000 tough-ass, drunk, tough guy truckers.  Let them stew over the Forcier jersey - they'll think he's another fullback that we haven't played yet because we're holding back a secret weapon.  Let'em get even more worked up than they already are!

1VA you are spot on.  I've been to OSU/Michigan and PSU/Michigan away games.  Not everyone you will run into is nice and many are drunk.

I'd go to the game in a second as you can tape our heavily favored away game and enjoy what should be a really good contest but I wouldn't poke the bear.

Go to the game. Hard to turn down the only decent B1G game of the season so far. Wear your Michigan gear, but it's C'bus, so under a neutral looking coat. Then cheer like a maniac at some tOSU sports bar for the main event on the TeeVee machine Saturday night. Go Blue
