  • Ohio State improves Michigan's B1G East title hopes by beating Penn State in a Michigan-fans-can't-really-lose game!
  • Michigan State manages to lose to Northwestern in 3OTs!
  • Michigan has a run game!
  • Michigan beat Rutgers the way Michigan should beat Rutgers!
  • Peters might be average this year!

Edit: Here's a (link) to get people in the know about this 'Dilly Dilly' bit.

They fired him and it killed that fucking piece of shit. The season was barely over and he croaked.

Saquon Barkley did not enable child rape though. I don't think Saquon is pro-child rape. Do you?

I was at the most recent games in happy valley and Columbus. The Penn State fans were actually quite cordial. OSU fans are fucking asssholes who think it is their life's mission to go out of their way to be as obnoxious and unbearable as possible, especially to Michigan fans. They literally live for nothing else but OSU football. PSU fans did not enable child rape. JoePa did. OSU fans are fuckwads who can't let opposing fans attend a football game without being heckled and having beer poured on them.

Would you send your kid there? Would you entertain going there in 2012-2014 when all the shit was hitting the fan? Isn’t it important to stand for something? Barkley was c/o 2015 for what it’s worth. I concur a large portion of OSU fans may mouth-breathe football but I prefer that 10 times out of 10 to an aww shucks let’s keep the statue up portion of state college’s fanbase.

I can't speak for them obviously , but I'd wager for a large amount of recruits what happened at Penn State is almost completely irrelevant and I'm not really sure I blame them. When I was like 15/16 I can say it wouldn't be on my radar. I don't say that to excuse what happened, but honestly if I were getting a full ride scholarship to a good school at that age something horrible that happened years ago wouldn't be the deciding factor in my mind. Maybe selfish and immature, but I think that's realistic.

It's hard to project on youth when I was never in their position and don't know how the dreams of professional football are weighed against current offers and promises, and in Barkley's case whether to stay with Rutgers or decommit.

So yeah, me the internet tough guy with strong words, rabble rabble. That said, I find it incumbent on everyone in the decision-making process to be educated about their choices. So if you take your talents to happy valley, you are not explicitly rebutting decisions that were made by many in that insititution.

It truly grinds my gears when people there, james franklin chief among them, act all sanctimonious in their victimhood when what price have they really paid for what was done? A 5-year ban lifted after two? The naked self-interest of them and the NCAA disgusts me.

How about the criminal convictions of those involved and the firing of the coach who was an institution to them? I'm no fan of PSU and I abhor the fact that a university could allow such a thing, but talk about sanctimonious.

The fact that this happened is indicative of the infallibility we bestow upon our winning rooting interests. If something like that happened at almost any Blueblood program that was winning, you would be hard pressed to find the institution handle it appropriately.

I don't know that Michigan, OSU or Notre Dame would have. I like to think Michigan would have at least fired the child rapist, but I don't know. Michigan botched the handling of the sexual assault allegations by our former kicker.

It's easy to tar and feather the whole PSU community as complicit, but I see the same potential for reverence and view of infallibility in this fan base. If Harbaugh were to win a championship or two, he'd largely be untouchable and the fans would give him more than the benefit of the doubt if a scandal arose.

I again believe that he wouldn't abide any such horrific actions on his watch; however, I'm sure the PSU fans believed the same about Paterno. Nevertheless, if such a scandal occurred at UM, would you jettison your decades of Michigan fandom?

We all agree what Paterno's DC did was horrible and irredeemable. Paterno was complicit if he knew. Additionally, the administration was as well. There fans' role is tangential in that we build up these men as something more than they are. They're not inherently more moral than any of us.

Despite all of the above, the subset of vocal PSU fans who supported Paterno would also be found at nearly every institution. We have no idea if any given PSU fan is a member of that subset. Wee are fans of the university/team first and foremost.

Is that seriously what you think you are doing? Honestly dude please tell me, how much anti-pedophelia advocacy do you do outside of self-righteously shitting on Penn State fans? Literally 99.999999% of society and PSU fans think child rape is evil. You aren't making a difference by labeling all PSU fans perverts, you are being a sanctimonious asshole. The only "stand" you are taking is one that you made up in your head. No one thinks child rape is okay. No one who believes the basic facts about the scandal believes Joe Pa is innocent. There is an ongoing pedophelia ring within Hollywood. It is evil and tragic. It doesn't mean if you go to the movies you are a pro-child rape though.

Now you are arbitrarily rationalizing the situation to make it so you don't have to label Barkely a pro-child rape pervert and feel like a prick, even though your time window is arbitrary and Barkley was recruited by Franklin who came in 2012. I've never heard the media ask Saquon his opinion of Joe Pa, have you? What total bullshit! We must demand to know the truth! Is Saquon a child-rape promoting pervert? Why does the media give him a free pass? /s

I'm sorry, but if you think PSU has learned you need look no farther than the fact that there is a Paterno on their board of trustees.  Sandusky didn't happen in a vacuum and the NCAA completely failed to hammer a valuable lesson home.  There are many in Happy Valley who still think Paterno didn't do anything wrong.  Why would anyone send their son or daughter to that program?

October 29th, 2017 at 4:11 PM ^

That child rape is evil? That's obvious. That the coverup was evil? That's obvious too. That coaches are not infallible? You aren't going to ever convince anyone of that. If it came out tomorrow that Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowdon, Bo, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, or any other legendary coach was involved in something this awful the fans would try to defend them anyway. You could shut down all of PSU and salt the earth and it wouldn't change anything. I would hope that athletic directors and University Presidents across the country don't need PSU to be shut down to realize that covering up child rape is evil. No one should have to think "Hmm, I would normally try to cover this up, but geez look what happened to Penn State! l don't want my football program to be shut down so I better report it!"

As much as we like to think "it couldn't happen here", PSU fans thought the same thing. Jay Paterno was elected to the BoT by money and delusional fans. But it was the BoT that commissioned the Freeh report in the first place and they got rid of everyone involved in the coverup. I don't think the NCAA should have lightened the punishment either but none of the fans had control over the decision anyway so at this point you are just being sanctimonious. Literally no one thinks child rape isn't evil or covering it up isn't evil. You aren't some noble crusader for justice by shitting all over PSU fans who have no control over the situation and are doing what any other fanbase would do. I mean for fuck's sake can you even begin to imagine what would happen if this shit went down at OSU or Bama? You could burn the entire state of Pennsylvania to the ground and it wouldn't change the way OSU fans would react if it came out tomorrow that Urban Meyer was involved in a similar scandal. OSU had a scummy head coach who got fired after the media got wind of his shenanigans so they went out and got another scummy head coach.

Continues to handle the situation poorly to this day. One trustee stated he is “running out of sympathy for the victims”. The current head coach talks about “healing” in terms of football victories. JoePa’s son, a trustee for the university bloviates about the “class” that PSU exemplifies.

Non of this is doing the right thing for the victims - I would not let a son or daughter attend Penn State.

Al Lord dropped out of the election shortly after his email surfaced, so he's gone.

I dislike Franklin for lots of reasons but the outrage over his comments is not really necessarily. Do you honestly think he is advocating child rape? His words were fucking stupid and distasteful. It remains the case that if Franklin is successful the fans will feel less of a need to defend Joe Pa. That's just how it is and there's nothing unique about PSU's fanbase that makes it this way. People will go to outrageous extremes to hold onto something they feel they have lost.

Jay Paterno is a piece of shit who has maintained his power with money and delusional fans. There is nothing anyone can do to make him not a piece of shit. He was raised by Joe Pa after all.

I think the whole thing is a fucking disgrace, I just don't think there is any fundamental reason it would have been handled all that differently at other places that worship football like OSU or Bama. Therefore when we have rooting interest threads and people come on here and sanctimoniously comment how they are rooting for OSU because they have to "take a stand" against PSU I roll my eyes. You are not any more anti-child rape than 99.999999% of the population is. If you really want to take a stand, go work for an organization that actively promotes anti-pedophelia advocacy but don't act like you are making a difference by shitting all over PSU. There's no fundamental reason this sort of evil thing couldn't have ever happened at OSU, Bama, FSU, etc. We like to believe it could never happen at Michigan but face it, we fans have zero say in what goes on behind the scenes. Fans typically only act in ways that are beneficial to their football team. In the unbelievably awful event that something this horrible did happen at Michigan, people on this blog wouldn't be calling for the University to be burned to the ground. But that's exactly what people are doing in regards to PSU.

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly, lavender's green,
When I am king, dilly dilly, you shall be queen:
Who told you so, dilly dilly, who told you so?
'Twas mine own heart, dilly dilly, that told me so.
First time I can recall hearing it was in the Marillion song Lavender which uses the aforementioned poem as the chorus
