Derrick Green not traveling to Citrus Bowl

Submitted by MGoStrength on

I know we've heard speculation that Derrick Green may wind up transferring after getting burried on the depth chart and even more so now after the verbal committment of Karreem Walker.  It's stil unclear if that will happen, but this is just another peice of information regarding the once highly touted running back.  Here's the link:

...is overwhelmingly in favor of the idea that the best way is to never have to lose it. If you got on a "diet" and lose weight the most likely scenario is you'll gain it back and then some. As you said, diets don't work long term. It has to be a lifestyle change you can stick with. There's no going back once you've finished with the "diet".

Derrick Green has as much balance running the ball as I do after having 8 gin and tonics.

I had so much hope. He should have redshirted in '13. He was in no shape to contribute. He actually was looking alright before his injury last year.

This is a cautionary tale as to why you don't overhype high school kids. For every 1 that pans out, you have one that doesn't and I think that fans need to be patient with kids.

Of back seems to translate poorly to the current college game. Big guys who succeed by overpowering guys in high school.

Thus is scientifically based on Kevin Grady and Derrick Green.

Part of me hopes he transfers just so he can go somewhere and get some playing time. It's pretty obvious that he and Isaac are buried on the depth chart and probably don't have many options in front of them to play at Michigan. Even in garbage time.

I know that recruiting write-ups aren't everything, but when you bring in well-rated RB's and still don't have a running game, at some point, you need to look at the OL or the coaching. Granted that Green didn't show any bright flashes of ability that might suggest he has a future as a producitve Big Ten back, but still.

i wish him well...IF he leaves.

Very dissappointed in some of the cheesy comments above. The kid may have left the team or perhaps has some other issue. However, I will take issue with the mean comments from above! Derrick Green is still a Michigan Wolverine and Wolverines Do not eat their own. Apparently some of those above either started New Year's Eve early or just returned from Walmart disgruntled.

probably a couple years older than most kids and obviously bigger and played against shitty competition.

I agree with the people who appreciate that he came to us during the dark days. I hope for the best for him, whatever that may be. Seems like a good guy as well.

Who said he'd be gone to the NFL in 3 years? Not trying to be tough on a kid, but I think you have to have a better work ethic and tougher skin to make it to that level. If he is gone, hopefully he does well wherever that may be, but it seems to this observer, he has a bit to go.

Whatever happens for him going forward, I wish him the best and hope he finds success. He never seemed to be w malcontent, just was never the player we thought he would be here.

Green was the second most anticipated recruit we brought in in the last decade. In high school he was 6-1, 220 lbs with 4.4 speed. By the time he got here he was 5-11, 240 with 4.8 speed. Kid was never a top talent.

I knew from the beginning he was going to tank. Honestly. From the second his announcement ceremony kicked off with that woman blabbing on forever, I knew this would not end well.
