I'm not sure if anybody else saw, but after the first or second TD (whichever Dymonte got burned) Jourdan Lewis absolutely lit him up on the sideline right after the play. He was yelling/talking/cheering the whole game. Love him

So my uncle is a prof at Michigan, and he told me that he went to observe one of his TA's sessions before last week's game. The TA took the last 5 minutes of the class to teach the students how to do the wave properly. I don't think his message got out quite right. The wave definitely started while Michigan was on offense, and isn't that a huge no-no?

Other than that I was really happy that the crowd stayed in the game even during the miserable first quarter. It certainly sounded loud from where I was sitting.

Yeah, I couldn't figure it out... Michigan has third down on offense, the game's still within reach, and... fans are making noise?  I'm not sure that it had an impact on the play, but why take that risk?

Of course, if they didn't make it a point to pipe in loud music during every commerical break -- at least, whenever the band's not playing -- maybe people would do the wave between possessions, when it might make sense. :-)

Speight struggled against the cover 4 (umbrella) man under at first. He responded. The team was down 21-7 and responded. Players made mistakes and responded. We made it out healthy. We won a day that was important, enjoy it until tomorrow and then we focus on "The TEAM! The TEAM! The TEAM!"

I was expecting some trickery from the underdogs with the past between the two head coaches.

Trickery came out in the first drive!

The biggest trick, imo, was the long ball by LuFau (sp?)  after getting injured. Nobody expected him to take a shot down the field after limping around when he sustained the injury and was in for one more play. We paid for that in the form of 7 points.

Aside from that... Running game, still had trouble running downhill, but we have also been going up against teams that either have stacked the box to prevent downhill running or colorado, which has an absolute brick shithouse on their D-line.. They have some really good corners, but the rest of the secondary was easy to attack.  Getting past the front men was something that required a lot of speed and a lot of trying to win the war of attrition to wear them out a bit.   It was not as necessary in the end as I think it would have been had the QB injury not happened.

I am not as worried about our running game right now as some people are, though it is an area of concern and we've really had trouble against teams that most think we should just plow through, those teams also have had varibles that compromise another part of their defense.

Oh, Peppers... Can we stop talking about him being hype? I was so happy to see that kid finally get to house a return. 9 tackles 200+ yards.  The hype is reality.

Getting victimized on slants and the deep ball was a bit shocking.  That TD bomb by Colorado to start the second half was not good.  Gotta be honest, I'm a little disappointed with the defense.  Thankfully we knocked their starting QB out of the game otherwise this may have gone to the wire.  I hope the Colorado DB's were all just really good because we had no separation and no vertical game.  Hate to be a gloomy voice on a 17 point win but this team has some work to do.

This. Speight really needs to work on taking control of the game when the run game for M is shut down, which it has been the past 2 weeks. Last week, he passed all the tests, but this week he looked like he was a bit lost.

Every game looks line a Win except osu right now. Michigan is built to stop Wisconsin msu and Iowa. Osu is a different story and right now it isn't looking good. That game will determine the final 4

OL and QB play were below standard. JP and special teams were huge. D was good other than blown coverages. Good enough to beat CU. Need big improvement to justify top 5 status and B1G championship.

1. The spread offense can make a mediocre team good (Colorado).

2. The spread offense can make a good team elite (Louisville).

3. A quarterback injury should not make a team go from good to mediocre that quickly.

4. A win is a win.

I didn't like that the team came into the game flat. It felt like on the 1st offensive series, we had a drop and then CU made it look easy to stop us. Then on the punt return, it felt like our coverage team was only moderately interested in stopping the guy. That set them up with great field position and they only had to run a few of their scripted opening drive plays to score. That kind of set the tone for the 1st quarter. Vs high end opposition that could end the game before halftime.

I did like that the team didn't throw in the towel when Colorado looked like they were going to kick Michigan's asses all day long. I liked that Michigan won the 2nd quarter and then the 2nd half big.

Michigan got a few breaks but they also made some of these breaks by persistence and hard work. It's not like Colorado quit, they were a game bunch all the way and kept digging and Michigan had to fight hard.

I think we have identified a few key issues to work on here. The O-line needs to get better primarily in the running game, Speight needs to get better at identifying alternatives when primary targets are locked down. On D some of our secondary were shown their limitations - though Colorado has some legit weapons there, make no mistake - and that needs to be addressed given Brown's blitz-first approach.

But I also have the confidence that we'll be a better team in week 10 than we are now. I trust this staff more than the previous two staffs to develop the team. They seem to be a flexible group, willing to adjust things based on what they see. That sounds like common sense but it's far from the rule as people often mentally get locked in on something and then try to make it work regardless of evidence that it can't work.

I don't know if I buy a top 5 ranking at *this* point but I also think Colorado is clearly a team with a pulse and a team with some quality. I wouldn't be able to say they are worse than Pac teams like Arizona or Arizona St at this point and if they won 7+ games I wouldn't be shocked. You know people complain about low quality OOC opponents and here you get a team that competes and challenges our team and people panic asap

This was the first game where you could see the impact of Michigan’s missing Jourdan Lewis, Taco Charlton and Bryan Mone on defense. But there are others who might’ve been contributing to the team depth this season, and while they’re missing in action, they seem to have been forgotten.

In his pre-forklift-injury life, fifth-year senior Drake Johnson seemed to be in line for regular work at running back this season.  During fall camp, future aerospace engineer Noah Furbush, a junior, had received some positive reviews for his work at linebacker. Redshirt junior Wyatt Shallman also might’ve been used at linebacker this season, but he has yet to play this season, and I don’t recall reading about his being injured. In the words of Mike LaFontaine, owner and founder of High Class Management, “Wha happened?”

It's fair to protect the privacy of these students, so it's reasonable for Michigan's coaches to shelter the media and the public from details that the students don't want disclosed.

During fall camp, Drake Johnson was interviewed, and I believe he said that he was feeling fine after that forklift injury. However, he has yet to see any action, and I don't know whether he has dressed for any game.

Has there been any further mention of Noah Furbush and Wyatt Shallman since before the Hawaii game?

I really thought the backup WR's would get more run this year. Drake Harris and Moe Ways. They are non-existent now. Are they really that unusable? I just wonder if they don't practice well and it results in no playing time.

Here's my snowflake: Please get healthy Jourdan Lewis, Taco Charlton, and Bryan Mone. Thank you. Overall, I thought they responded well today, it looked for a bit that we were going to get our asses kicked, however, 38-7 after 1st quarter is impressive. We have improvement to make, I think getting those 3 defenders back will be HUGE. I'm concerned about the oline; I think that's a huge key. It must get better imo. Speight? Jury is still out. Get better everyday, that's our goal.

I haven't seen it posted anywhere but how many penalties did we have? Seemed we gave them way too many chances wit penalties. How does the total compair to the first two games combined.

Michigan's lofty rating is about their defense, not an offense led by a first year starter. Speight showed some resilience, didn't let the moment get too big after a shaky start and enough mobility to make some plays. He's a work in progress, the defense can't be.

I don't know why people are down on the running game. Sweeps are still running plays, not every run has to go between the tackles. Once CO adjusted to the outside runs toward the end, we were able to run on the interior. QB play is the biggest worry. He seemed too slow in his reads.

^^^ This!!! Smith had 87 yards on 11 carries, including a backbreaking TD run, and as a team Michigan rushed for 168 (including negative yards for sacks) and averaged 4.1 per carry. Not great, but not awful either. Obviously, between the tackles wasn't working well yesterday and hasn't worked well except against Hawaii. But yeah, rushing to the edge, whether with the RB, the QB, or jet sweeps to WR's is still rushing. Further, the more they attack the edge, the more the middle is likely to open up.

General observations:
1. Spate (thanks iPhone autocorrect) will throw several picks this year.  He throws into coverage way too much.

2. Spate's lack of mobility will hurt this team in key moments.

3. Don Brown needs to dial back the aggression from his back 7, stay sound back there, and let the beasts up front take care of the pressure.  Way too many busts in the middle and deep.

4. The first quarter full of trick plays that led to wide open dudes and lots of points/yards against our D is a premonition of the upcoming MSU and Ohio State games.

5. Due to poor QB and O-line play, I now beleve we will lose to both MSU and OSU again, and the OSU game will be another ass-thumping.

6. Peppers is a beast.  Butt is as well.

I'm still waiting to see what our defense looks like with Lewis, Taco and Mone. I think you add those three later in the season at 100% (or close enough to it) we'll be a lot better than we have shown so far. Sure we've been burned on big plays but you add those 3 you should be able to mitigate the damage quite a bit. Also, trust in Harbaugh, it's still early people, no need to get your panties in a twist, it's not like we're Florida State.

I think ya'll whine too much.  OSU took a big  f'n LOSS a couple years ago around this time in the season and still ended the season as national champs.

Sure, dissect the game, but take away the first quarter shakiness (did people really underestimate this team again, especially with the coaches having a previous connection? These games happen. Did Alabama look like a championship team fighting it down to the last minute to a far inferior opponent?

It was 38-7 after the first quarter. Sure, there is a lot to take from this game and some possible flaws were exposed in the team, but it's a W -- and a 38-7 run shows that we can adjust.  Having a 38-7 run look "sloppy" is pretty fucking good.

I don't know or care where we "should be ranked." There will be very few undefeated teams at the end of the season, and almost zero teams that didn't have inferior opponents push them harder than putting up a bunch of points in the first quarter, tehn being outscored by more than  5:1 through the rest of the game.

I am worried about some of the QB play, but hey, there's always something to worry about.  With the exception of field goal kicking, our special teams looks like something that could be special in a very good way this year. That's huge.

Let's just all thank Mr. Peppers for being badass superhuman of the week and be happy to be 3-0, and put some faith in the players/coahces  to make sure we'll be 4-0 next Saturday
