Chip Kelly reportedly making $2 Million as OSU’s OC, making him the second highest paid assistant in the country behind… Jim Knowles
Imagine having the highest price tag in the industry for both your coordinators and having them be one of the most notorious assholes in coaching and Donovan Edward’s son. Just brutal

Nothing would be better than beating an ohio state for the 4th straight year just to see Day get fired before their bowl game that none of their starters will play in
I give OSU credit.....going all in on this season. Hope it blows up spectacularly.
The Jimbo Fisher Method ™
Watching OSU not win it is always hilarious.
F*ck ohio
Ohio's offense looks awful in the spring game. The further away Day get's from attaching himself to Kevin Wilson's offense, the worse it looks.
I agree with you 100%. What they have done vs Michigan on offense since he left is an absolute disaster.
I'd argue that their defense is just really good.
If our offense looks bad, it'll be because our defense is that good. The question is:
Do you really expect our offense to outperform theirs? Not in Spring Practice, but at the end of November. I'd bet on Day's offense. Defenses will be similar, Day is probably better than Moore on offense.
Michigans defense > osu’s defense.
The offenses will be closer once the portal opens again
Agree. The OSU defense is top notch. Their offense should look behind playing them. Michigan offense will look pretty bad next weekend too
That's typical for most offenses in the Spring. it just takes the offense longer to click than the defense

It is, but their strength is their backfield and we can run on them.

Ha. Not after jettisoning McCord. That's gonna backfire, and big.

Rice, I look at it as Michigan's defense has been pure awesome in recent years. That's what gives me hope for this year's Game even though we have some big question marks on offense.
OSU and Michigan may have the two best defenses in the country this season. The big question is whether Michigan will have an offense.
I don't know about OSU being one of the two best defenses in the country.
They ranked 2nd in the country in points allowed and third in yards allowed, and are returning almost everyone.

The only offense they played was Michigan and they didn’t force a single punt in the second half.
Georgia and Alabama will be better defensively.
Ok, so they're 4th best defense. Still darn good.
There’s a reason all your overpaid 5 stars came back this year. The NFL doesn’t want them.

Ryan Day rarely plays backups, even when games are well in hand. We would start putting in backups once we had a two score lead.
He plays to game the stat sheets, so I don’t put much stock into them.
But what will they do when we come out with 10 OL and Alex Orji?
allow yet another 85 yard TD run is my guess. then blame the weather and the sniffles
Both Kelly and Day have roots in NH. So. Kelly is one "circle of friendship" removed from me and I hear that he's not a bad guy.
Day? I hear/know nothing, either good or bad (and what's with the Grecian Formula, Ryan? Grey hairs are usually indicative of wisdom, lol).
So. Two friends who wanted to work together in a game they love. Regardless, may they both be miserable by end-November.
Edit/add: going to be fun watching a Kelly tOSU offense versus a Wink defense. Would have liked seeing it against Minter's but this next one should be fun, too.
I think the rumor is that coaches don't like working for Kelly. So he might not be a bad dude but I don't think people enjoy working for/with him.
I"ve got *zero* insight into his management style. That rumor could easily reflect reality. All I hear is that he's a good guy with his childhood and local friends. And I hear that from people who are decent, good people. 🤔
Fun fact learned today: the two of them went to same high school as Adam Sandler.
Michigan and OSU look like similar teams. Loaded on defense, talent on offense, and a huge question mark at QB.
I really, really hope Orgi steps his game up.
McCord played pretty well for OSU last year, but his sin was not playing up to the standard of the three 1st round picks who preceded him. OSU probably would’ve been better off if Day hadn’t panicked and sent him away. But in Howard, they still have an experienced QB who’s had some success and also have a 5 Star recruit behind him. Michigan has nothing but huge question marks, so much so that fans are touting Orji without ever having seen him throw a pass in a real game.
I watched the game, and Sayin will be good but isn't ready yet. And boy did they eff up by running off McCord, who I thought was pretty good.
OSU fans convinced themselves McCord was the problem, but there isn't a QB on their roster rn better than him. It seems like a few OSU fans are slowly realizing it, but others do not and are still running with McCord being a "Syracuse level QB"
I'll admit that part of me wanted McCord to transfer here, not just for his skill as they almost beat us with him, but especially for the comedic value. Think about the humor there, had we beat them in the Horseshoe this year with mcCord. Their fans would literally melt down.

I thought McCord was just okay. Not good like most think he is here.
One of the most frequent-cited stats about JJ during this draft evaluation cycle has been that he was the highest-rated QB in the nation on 3rd-and-7+.
If Orji is the guy, it's quite possible that in 2024, 3rd-and-7 is a running down. I'd be perfectly happy with a Denardian 10-blockers offense with some Worst Waldo play action.
More likely, I'd still bet on Tuttle with a significant Orji package (15-20 snaps). Heh. I said "package."
If the passing game is so bad that 3rd and 7 becomes a running down, the 2024 season is going to be a real come down. All eyes on the QBs next Saturday. I think Tuttle is their best hope.
Ideally, with Orji at QB plus Mullings and Edwards, we should be in 3rd and long situations much less often and hopefully be in 4 down territory more frequently
What one did in high school doesn’t matter at the next level. Orgi has more experience than Sayin who is a complete unknown.
Howard was beat out by Adrian Martinez for the KSU job. Yikes.
A lot of qb talent at OSU. They go 5 deep and I think someone hits the portal.
Yep I'm scared to death of our QB situation. I'm actually hoping Tuttle wins the job and can be our next Rudock. Then we get our cake and eat it too cuz Orji packages will still be a part of our offense. Problem is there's no reason to believe in Tuttle. Dude could never win the starting job at Indiana. Our QB situation is downright frightening to anyone who is willing to be rational about this. I'm hoping for portal magic at this point. Don't see any other choice.
Tuttle looked pretty good last year at Michigan. Sometimes you are in a bad situation with bad coaching.Jake Rudock and AJ Barner are two examples.
Jake Rudock put out basically the same rate stats as he did at Iowa, but slightly higher counting stats due to more attempts.
He did not radically improve at Michigan.

Michigan has nothing but huge question marks, so much so that fans are touting Orji without ever having seen him throw a pass in a real game.
The OSU 5-star you mentioned hasn’t thrown in a real game either.
OSU’s floor at QB is higher, yes. But you also can’t simply equate the two situations. U-M doesn’t rely on its QB to the same extent OSU does. We just had a top-10 (top-5?) pick at QB, and he still wasn’t the focal point.
Granted, OSU likely will run the ball more under Kelly. How well they can do that is an open question.
Ohio States QB's all look awful. Sure it's just spring, but you don't see anyone firing a ball in anywhere. Howard didn't play much, but that appears to still be where all of their eggs reside.
And on defense, it's hard to tell given Ohio State's offense, but it looks like it's built to stop a passing game. Lots of interceptions and not so much of stuffing the run game. I assume they will easily make the playoffs so this doesn't matter much, but I think my fear level has ratcheted down one spot after their two hand touch spring game.
The whole program reeks of a country club mentality at this point. I'm from Texas and have kept an eye on the Longhorns program since forever, and I'll tell ya, that program was mired with entitled (and well paid) country club 5-star players and big name coaches for a decade plus with nothing to show for it but off-season championships.
Once that softness sets in, it's super hard to get out of your system.
If OSU doesn't win it all with the financial investments they have this year, I can't see the alumni continuing to open their wallets.
They will. The alumni are so obsessed with the football program that nothing will change, except for calls to fire Day. The money will still flow. It is their identity.
Edwards son? Something went over my head here.
Knowles is Edward's son. It's play on "Who's your daddy?" (Pedro Martinez, if you're out there somewhere reading this, the answer is still the Yankees.)
Uh, Pedro has no father in the "who's your daddy" game.
