Caris Traded to Rockets; Harden to Nets
The trade also involves some other guys and draft picks, but Caris’ time in Brooklyn is over.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
Just beat me! But Caris is actually going to the Pacers
Here are the details:
- Nets are getting James Harden
- Rockets are getting Victor Oladipo, Dante Exum, Rodions Kurucs, 3 Brooklyn first-rounders (22, 24, 26), 1 Milwaukee first (22, unprotected), 4 Brooklyn 1st round swaps (21, 23, 25, 27)
- Pacers are getting Levert and a 2nd Rounder
- Cavs are getting Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince

Poor Caris. Nets are dumb. Keep Caris, trade Kyrie. There’s only one ball. Caris’ role was perfect on the team.
Harden and Kyrie are gonna drive each other mad given their ball dominant approaches.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:50 PM ^
Caris is going to a good team with a very good coach (by all reports). He will likely be a starter (wasn't guaranteed in Brooklyn), play a lot of minutes, and put up good numbers. And we know he looks fantastic in Pacers colors.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:52 PM ^
I'm tired of carrying LeBron's shinebox. I want my own team.
~2017 Kyrie
January 13th, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
Kyrie is a flake and has been MIA for the last week. He can't seem to get along with any employer.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:04 PM ^
Yeah pretty sure this is why they made this trade now. People are thinking he might not come back/retire all together. What a strange dude.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:19 PM ^
+1
Kyrie is going on a lifetime expedition to see if he can fall off the edge, in which case we'll never see him again either way.
January 14th, 2021 at 8:10 AM ^
His level of wokeness makes his life really difficult, we should have compassion for him. He has to unwake to have conversation.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
Harden and Kyrie are gonna drive each other mad given their ball dominant approaches.
You would think they would have looked at the Harden/Westbrook combo and realized this. Harden might be a better 1 on 1 player, but Caris makes the team better. They’re going to pay more to get less.
January 14th, 2021 at 7:39 AM ^
Um, the Nets also have this Durant guy that shoots the ball a lot. Lots of offensive options but lots of ways to get 3t hree guys butt-hurt about their volume of shots.
In all fairness, Durant seems less of a head case but he still takes a lot of shots. I can't imagine being a fairly calm guy like Nash, thrust into this mix of personalities, and having to do it in NYC, where it's all microscopically examined. He better meditate a lot.
January 14th, 2021 at 8:22 AM ^
Nets are putting together their own super-team and are clearly in a "win now" mode by having Kyrie, KD and Harden all on the same team. Caris wasn't ever going to fit into those plans.
At least he's going somewhere where he will get a lot of minutes.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:44 PM ^
Rockets did pretty well here getting that much for a guy who just yesterday said his organization sucked.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
An aging, woefully out of shape guy at that.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:44 PM ^
Holy shit, the Rockets just got away with highway robbery
January 13th, 2021 at 9:04 PM ^
Isn’t this like the Herschel Walker trade?
January 13th, 2021 at 4:44 PM ^
Will be convenient for Caris to drop in on M practices and/or games in AA when allowed -- plus the entire NCAA in town.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:50 PM ^
From Indiana?
January 13th, 2021 at 4:57 PM ^
I wasn't the best at geography but, Its a lot more doable than Brooklyn. Maybe 2-3 hour drive AA to Indy? (Insert RCMB joke something something don't know the way to Indy..)
EDIT - Maybe closer to 4 hour drive unless you drive like me..
January 13th, 2021 at 5:15 PM ^
It's a decent haul by the Rockets but a number of those picks could well be low firsts in the end. I wonder if Kyrie comes back to play now; he sounded like he wasn't happy. If he doesn't come back then I don't think this demonstrably changes the Nets' chances at a title because the Nets still won't have enough to beat the Lakers this year.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:22 PM ^
Is James Harden that good? I don't watch a lot of NBA other than when the Pistons are in the play-offs, but seems like the Rockets are getting quite a bit out of the trade.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
Yes. Yes, he is.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:32 PM ^
No, no he is not.
January 14th, 2021 at 12:12 AM ^
Kind of a Lovie thing. It's the beard.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:18 PM ^
No way this works for the Nets. They just traded their future for 8 years to let Kyrie and Harden dribble the air out of the basketball. What a disaster for them. It's the KD and Pierce trade all over again. If I were a Nets fan I would be pretty upset.
Meanwhile the Rockets have a ton of assets to set themselves up for the next decade. 8 first round picks is highway robbery.
Cannot wait until the honeymoon stage ends. Kyrie blames Harden. Harden blames Kyrie. Durant blames both of them and the Nets are set back a decade.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:40 PM ^
This reminds me of Beilein’s interview of Juwan. Juwan said that one of the main things we avoid is letting the ball “stick” to a player after a pass. Harden and Kyrie are tarpits and their best player (neither of those guys) won’t get the ball.
I can’t believe Kevin Durant was okay with this. He’s the best basketball player in the league but the dude is just not smart. He needs a point guard who is a maestro passer, not a guy who dribbles around, travels, and then chucks up a three. Now he has two of those guys on his team.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:54 PM ^
I can’t fathom what the Nets were thinking. That’s a hell of a haul for a guy who doesn’t play well with others and can’t carry a team to a title
January 13th, 2021 at 4:33 PM ^
Looks like the Rockets are shipping him to the Pacers for Victor Oladipo.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
Itchy finger here I see. Yeah, it's a 4-way and he's going to the Pacers which I see as a more stable franchise and better fit overall.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:33 PM ^
No way this will work out for nets. They should trade Kylie now
January 13th, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
They probably want to considering Kyrie is not playing with them by his own choice and is not following covid protocols. Seems like a headache for the Nets.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:16 PM ^
Is the subtext here that maybe the Nets think Kyrie won't be playing for them? I thought I heard some people speculating that he might just be done, but I wasn't paying close attention.
Picking up Harden would certainly replace Kyrie if he's just done playing for the Nets anyway.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:08 PM ^
This right here is exactly why I think the Nets finally pulled the trigger. They need Harden to replace Kyrie if he isn't coming back.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:36 PM ^
I think Kylie comes with Harden. Actually, I can keep up with those people.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:36 PM ^
Harden won’t get 50 shots a game with the Nets .
January 13th, 2021 at 4:40 PM ^
Glad to see Caris get away from Durant/Irving. They dominate the ball too much.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Caris has the 4th highest usage rate in the NBA per 36 minutes played.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:46 PM ^
Durant and Irving have each missed nearly half the season so far, and the Nets' backup PG (Dinwiddie) is out for the year. Caris has high usage so far because the Nets don't have any other creators when Durant and Irving are out, but he'd be way back in the line with both stars healthy.
January 14th, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
and he's not on the court with them regularly when they are healthy. When leading the second unit, Caris's usage is one of the highest in the NBA, possibly the highest.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
As a Pacer fan, I love this deal!!!!! Caris will be instant offense for us. Oladipo has not fully recovered from injury and he wasn’t signing a max deal. Nets will be a disfunctional mess. Houston got a ton!!!
January 13th, 2021 at 4:52 PM ^
Durant, Harden and Kyrie? They’re going to need at least a couple basketballs to play with in every game. It’ll be fun to watch the jealousies when two of them get upset about the third taking the crunch time shots.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:10 PM ^
We all know it's going to be KD taking those shots. He's the only one who can play off ball out of those 3.
January 13th, 2021 at 4:56 PM ^
It will be fun to see how Kyrie sabotages this.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:01 PM ^
I will now root against the Nets for trading for Harden
January 13th, 2021 at 6:20 PM ^
They have the least likeable star players now. Kyrie, Harden, and Durant have to be the most dramatic NBA players in the league! Maybe they will try to get Russ to complete the circus.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:05 PM ^
Malcontent head case. Great move by the Rockets. But sorry for caris.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:00 PM ^
How is this bad for Caris? The Pacers are a playoff team and he'll have a major role there.
January 13th, 2021 at 8:29 PM ^
my understanding is that he was in a much better place vis-a-vis playing time and contracts. of course we all hope it works out great for him. time will tell.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:40 PM ^
He'll be replacing Oladipo, who was a focal point for the Pacers. Plus, their other primary SG/SF, TJ Warren, is out with a long-term injury. He's going to get a ton of playing time.
January 13th, 2021 at 10:53 PM ^
excellent. thank you for filling that in. glad for caris.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:13 PM ^
Nets are so stupid to now have 2 enormous headaches on the team, really bad for chemistry.
We'll see how it works.
