Cade out with a leg injury for a few weeks

Submitted by fergodsake on September 17th, 2022 at 4:21 PM

Just can't catch a break. Hope he makes a speedy recovery, we'll need him more likely than not.

Jim Harbaugh's full quote on Cade McNamara's injury:

“Cade: Unfortunately, his foot was caught in the ground, got hit from the side the side in the leg. Probably going to be out for a few weeks. Not going to be a season ending thing, I don't think, but he'll miss some time.”

Hoping for the best but considering the injury it might have been better to get Warren some more reps in the second half since he will be the backup for at least 2 weeks.

I mean there is Chinese proverb about a farmer's son breaking his leg which allows him to avoid getting drafted into the military, so it is indeed possible for an injury to be a blessing in disguise, but I agree this is not one of those situations.

New NCAA rules now limit transfer portal entries and Cade wouldn't be able to enter the portal until after the Playoff is announced.  LINK

"The NCAA Division I board of directors on Aug. 31 voted to approve 60 days throughout the calendar year during which student-athletes can enter the transfer portal, a change that went into effect for the 2022-23 season. Football players will be allowed to enter the portal for 45 days beginning the day after the College Football Playoff field is announced, and also from May 1 to May 15"

There’s “giving up a sack” and then there is “complete whiff giving up a no-chance thunder sack against an abjectly awful team missing their best DL player after doing the same last week against another awful team”. OL needs to take a good hard look in the mirror, because they’ve let their captain down repeatedly.

My point is that the line did not get worse for cade. UConn got serious pressure against JJ too. It just wasn't nearly as glaring because he was able to mitigate it. Best example was his pass to Ronnie in the endzone. JJ stepped up all day and moved around.

A huge and vocal part of this board loves cade. I get it. But, I keep seeing this stuff about harbaugh not calling great plays for cade and now the line not blocking for cade. Those are problematic for a few reasons. People saying those things are divorcing cade from the team and they are implying that there is an agenda against cade.

None of the other quarterbacks have had the same issues this year, not because there's an agenda against cade, but because they can move around in the pocket and get rid of it. We've seen it with JJ obviously. We've seen orgi keep them honest as a run threat. We've seen Davis as a dual. Bowman moved around on his td pass.

What cade was a part of last year was last year. His shortcomings along with the line's shortcomings are getting him killed. The other qb's have the tools to hedge the line's shortcomings.

Great point. With 6...7? different qbs playing the problem seemed to only affect one of them. I mean on his very first snap he went down after jj hadn't had significant, impactful pressure all day. The Willie Beamon narrative doesn't really fly because, like you said, he was voted captain and also the golf clubs and steak. I think his limitations have been exposed and teams are teeing off on him.

Wasn't the O-line considered one of the teams strengths coming into the season? Looking at the "The Enemy Ranked 2022: Offensive Line" our OL was expected to be the best OL in the Big Ten. It is concerning how much pressure 3 of the worst 12 FBS teams were able to put on Michigan's offense and get to the QB. That said, conference schedule is about to begin. We will soon see what exactly we have.

Our pass protection needs some serious work. They have been smoked several times against really bad teams. Trente Jones looks like he is stuck in concrete at times. I know JJ is more mobile and that’ll help but he can’t be taking hits like Cade has been or we will be counting on the third string qb

It was nice to give the Big House a chance to redeem itself with cheering him, but an unlucky sequence of 2 plays there at the end of the 1st half.  Football gods there saying we shoulda just sat on it and let Cade start Q3.

But the QB controversy, or what was left of it, just went poof.

Sad to see. It's been a hard couple weeks for Cade.

Was disappointed for him to get hit on two different plays after finally entering the game.

Was surprised that Davis Warren didn't play more, being that (1) he's probably next year's backup, and more urgently (2) would immediately become the backup if Cade was out for future weeks (and apparently he is).

Getting a standing ovation from the Big House faithful, only to be sacked from his blind side on the first play and then sacked again to cause injury to his leg should be his sign to get his transfer papers ready.

Kid just can't catch a break at all.

Poor damn Cade McNamara.  This season has been an abject nightmare for him, and he deserves better.  His first play in today, after a standing O, is an easy sack.  He was absolutely destroyed on his long completion (which wasn't a bad throw, actually).  The OL, to which he's been quite gift-ly, hasn't done a damn thing to help him out.

If he were upset at his teammates, I wouldn't blame him one bit.  But everything we hear says he's not, because he's a great teammate and an awesome leader.  I hope he gets his career back on the trajectory it had ending last season.

The OL absolutely receive blame for Cade's injury. Over the course of 3 cupcakes, they've mysteriously allowed free rushes at least half of his snaps. I cant remember this happening with such regularity at any time but Georgia last year.

On his long completion to Ronnie today, he was hit by 2 defenders who both had free runs.

What the literal F?
