Both teams' horrible uniforms

Submitted by Communist Football on

Ugly uniforms for Sparty have become an annual tradition, unfortunately.  But really?  These bumblebee Michigan road uniforms are absolutely terrible.

I wasn't a huge fan of the UTL home uniforms, but I could deal with it as a one-time-only event. Is Michigan really going to become like every other school with lame third jerseys?

"Is Michigan really going to become like every other school with lame third jerseys?"

Are you really going to start a discussion by asking a rhetorical question?

I don't think we should have acknowledged Sparty's idiotic uniforms with ones of our own. They don't look terrible, but we shouldn't be giving them the benefit. They ain't worth it. And I feel like the uniforms haven't added to either team thus far.

I also like them.  The yellow is a little too yellow on my TV, but I imagine it's the same color as the yellow in the away jerseys anyway.  I particularly like that they didn't announce it beforehand.  Take that Spartans.

a media ploy.  Sunday, every article will mention Michigan's uniforms and Monday that will be all the talk, not MSU's stupid uni's.

Dave Brandon not only creates the future, he destroys MSU's public image attempts.

About the horrible play calling and substitutions of Gardner when we need more consistency from Robinson?

I think that fiddling with uniforms is a natural outcome that was inevitable in our consumerist society.

Nike identified a potential opportunity for additional consumption and profit in terms of jersey sales and used Oregon, their house team, to initiate an experiment with uniform variations.

Additionally, it provides another recruiting angle to today's impressionable, fashion-conscious, and attention-hungry high school athlete. It allows recruiters to paint schools like Penn State and Nebraska as "moldy oldies" for their lack of marketing savvy.

Clearly, that experiment has proven successful in a number of ways, and Nike's initiative with Oregon has forced other uniform makers and universities to respond in kind.

I'm probably okay with some experimentation at Michigan as long as Michigan's colors are consistent and the jerseys don't wind up with WW1 & WW2 "Dazzle" camouflage (Google it) patterns.

A Saturday football doubleheader - you don't see those much. First the Bears' D gets overwhelmed against A&M, but they made it up with some big stops and a clinching pick-6 in the second game, beating the Bees 28-14.

"ooohhhh look we have special uniforms and they were a big secret!  No way we can lose now..."

I'm not sure which was worse- the offensive play calling or the uniforms, but they both represented a terrible miscalculation and "mind bottling" stupidity.

I attually liked them alot.  I am usually an old man complaigning about all the new uniform talk.  But those were nice.  I think i prefer them to the regular "uninspired" road unis we have seen in recent years.

Can't help it. I think they looked terrible. I don't know why. Even if we would have won, I still would not have liked them. UTL was a special occasion. I just feel like if we're going to do things like this, we shouldn't do them every few weeks. Just my opinion.

Whether we like it or not. Since they are here, I just hope that they can design something better than our awful ones. I actually liked State's uniforms, other than the shoes. I thought theirs looked classy as well as different.

It's not about what any of us want. Clearly, the players wanted it. They play, practice, go to study tables and do everything else - if they want this, let em have it. I agree, they were kinda ugly out there. But it was funny that we stole MSU's little 'LOOK MA WE HAVE NEWW JERSEEEEZ" moment. Recruits probably think it's pretty cool too. I just wish we had nike again. Especially for the gloves and shoes.

I thought the Michigan unis had a great 1910s, 1920s look to them.  The bumblebee stripes actually look AWESOME with our winged helmets (on both home and away jerseys). And going for the all white simplified the design (as opposed to having the maize pants).

I love our classic home and aways. Always will.  And yes, I think the legacy jerseys should be a relatively rare occurrence, but I think MSU is more than worthy of special attention.

As for all the Mgoblog haters, try to dial down the snark huh?  If you don't like 'em and you say so, great.  Opinions are wonderful.  But if you gotta pull out some evil disgust in your venting then you start to sound a lot like some of the ignorant fans that people on Mgoblog like to make fun of.

I actually liked the jerseys. If it gets the kids excited and recruits excited I am all for it. I would only say that I would prefer not to have numbers on the helmets every week.
