BTN needed something to show at night.  In a week with no good matchups, why not one of their flagship programs?  Same as the MTSU game being at night in 2019.

They'll get significantly higher viewership in that time slot than they would at noon (not just because of Hawaii / Michigan fans in other time zones but because it's a better timeslot even for ET folks to sit down and watch TV instead of doing it in the smack middle of the day).

Hawaii is a night game?

Hawaii??

We talkin 'bout Hawaii?  As in University of Hawaii?  You know, the team from Honolulu?  That team gets a night game?

I mean, that OOC slate is horrifically horrible, so whatever...  Ye gads...

Glad to see Indiana is a noon start.  Guessing Iowa will be a night game - wouldn't have been fun to have two back-to-back on the road...

Iowa will be pining for that to be a night game. They'll want a revenge game to be played at night. Will be a 3:30pm start at the latest, but that will not be a fun trip no matter what time its played at.

I don't know what it is about Kinnick but it is just where dreams go to die. Iowa is still their same uninspiring, boring, 1925 brand of football self when they play there. They don't do anything different, but Kinnick just seems to have a way of bringing Iowa's opponents completely out of sorts. By my count they've knocked off three at least top-5 opponents there in the last six years alone, and undoubtedly more if you round up to top-10.

I think Iowa could give Alabama a run for its money if they came up for a night game at Kinnick.

Yeah they're not impenetrable at Kinnick. But they are so much harder to beat there. That home field advantage is so real for them, and I don't know what it is. I don't know how to explain Iowa beating OSU, an Urban Meyer-coached OSU, by 31 points.

If Michigan was playing Iowa in Ann Arbor or on a neutral field, I'd probably take Michigan by two touchdowns. Maybe more. But its at Kinnick, so I fully expect a low scoring slopfest deep into the fourth quarter that could go either way. That game could have a halftime score of 7-3 or 7-7. Or 3-0.

None of it would surprise me.

Kinnick and Ross-Ade will forever give me nightmares. I don't care how good your team is going into one of those stadiums, be prepared for everything to go wrong. If you would have told me one QB would throw 5 TDs while the other threw 4 INTs going into that 2017 game, I would not have picked Nate Stanley as the guy throwing 5 TDs.

This is certainly not worth its own thread, but would love a little help from the board, please.

I had penciled in the Hawaii game for my 5 yo son and my dad's first trip to the Big House, of course assuming it would be an afternoon game. (Just realizing I haven't been to a game in 6 years either, and my oldest will be 6 this fall. Hmmm).

We're planning to spend a couple hours exploring A2/tailgating/watch the band walk in, etc. Knowing it's a night game, I'm questioning if that will make it more or less enjoyable for my son. I see it as:          +Night game atmosphere - 8 extra hours for people to potentially get sloppy drunk  - keeping a 5yo out till midnight (although he's a night owl).

For those who have been to a night game at the big house, what are your thoughts?  Stick with Hawaii or pick a day game for their first game?  Any "must see" visits for a 5yo on his first trip to A2?

The overall night game experience is incredible.  Definitely a "buzz" in the air...more energy...and the bright lights against the dark sky makes for an amazing sight.  It'll make the whole day even that more exciting and special for your son.

I think it'll be fine for your 5 year old.  There will be more drinking, but, other than some students, I haven't seen too many people in a sloppy drunken state.  It's not at all like what I've seen at NFL games.  The fact that alcohol isn't sold in the stadium definitely makes a difference...even if people are drinking before the game.

Our son is also a night owl.  Slept thru the night at one week old...after having fallen asleep at 11PM.  I think that may have been the earliest he's ever gone to sleep..and he's now almost 21 years old.  There were many nights in his grade school years where we fell asleep before he did.

1989 UM GRAD makes lots of good points.

However, I'd suggest keeping a day game open as an option. While a 5-year old would find the night atmosphere cool, and maybe even cooler that he gets to an adult thing with dad, if it had been my sons (one a night owl, one not), I'd have been concerned that either would be more overwhelmed than eager.

Also, little kids can get so excited they stay awake way past their usual bedtime. But some can also fall asleep in the middle of Times Square on New Year's Eve.

Strong point, Wolverine 15. Back in the day when I had no money, I made sure I stayed to the end of everything to get my money's worth, and my habit is till to think in terms of seeing the whole thing of anything.

But, of course, taking a 5 year old home when he's ready is a good option.

Eric Clapton is playing at Little Caesar's Arena that night. I wonder if he'll change his concert to a Noon start so fans can attend both....

As much as I love my Wolverines, Hawaii in primetime - especially when this game is going to be more or less over by 8:30 PM EDT if it goes like these normally do - seems like a bit of a waste of the timeslot. Then again, that means it is a noon game in Hawaii, I believe, so there's that.

I am planning to take my family of 4 (two kids but age 14/9) to the penn state game. Are we thinking then that would be a night game as well? Kids would be good either way, I’m just curious.
