He has also retained counsel in the KC area (as I posted a few weeks back). Interesting timing.

A friend in Missouri with little interest in the sordid details of College Football texted me today saying that they had knowledge of a law firm just having been retained by one of those two folks. Not quite a Sopwith coincidence, but I was like "small world...."

I've come to the opinion…

I've come around to the opinion that the Shea/golf thing was just Gattis being a jerk, or perhaps more charitably, an awkward motivator.

When playing at the U-M Golf Course last week with a recent player, I can tell you that the entire QB Room was playing behind us (in multiple groups) in what looked like a scramble event for a trophy.  (Pretty sure JJ was one of the winners.)

So, let's blame any losses this fall on our QB room having a team-building session in mid-July (rolls eyes).

Will BTN be able to do the replay (BTN Football in 60) shortly after the game, or will the telecast and subsequent re-airings belong exclusively to Peacock?

Also, is there a link/place where I can see our recruited Commits for this year?

Great article, Alex. Thanks for the coverage all season....

One thing that puzzled me late in the season is that Philippe Lapointe was not even listed as a non-dresser on the pre-game line sheets that UMHockey Twitter posts for each of the last 4 games for sure, and possibly longer.  Any idea why that was the case?

Finally, was it ever revealed what Truscott's injury was -- even if only stated as upper or lower body -- and what his prognosis for full recovery is?

I agree. Would have added that to my post, but it was long enough already. With the NHL draft in late-June, it's gonna be a long wait....

Spoiler....

No huge revelations, he didn't tip his hand either way.

Those optimistic about his return to UM would point out how quickly he talked about the NHL being a man's league and the 80+ game schedule, as well as how much he's enjoyed playing with his brother.

Those pessimistic about his return would point out how he talked about how confident he is about his game and how the NHL, as the best league in the world, is everyone's dream.

He is a poised guy to interview and I enjoyed listening to him. It's worth following the link, I'd say. Congrats on the Hobey, Adam!

Lapointe is not listed on the lineup sheet, even as a non-dresser. Did I miss an announcement on him?

The only thing sweeter than…

The only thing sweeter than Jake winning the Groza again would be for Jake to win the Groza *and* Brad Robbing to be named Holder of the Year!

Seriously, congrats to you, Jake on winning the B1G Awards. Go Blue!

It used to be that 2022…

It used to be that 2022 could only count as a Medical year if it could be proven that 2019 was a no-play due to injury.  Perhaps the rules have changed in the era of the portal, one-time immediate transfer, etc..... but I don't think they have.

Either way, I'm not saying goodbye yet -- we never know what could happen between now and August 2023 (trying not to jinx JJ's health here).  Possibilities remain that Cade may not be done here.

Also, it doesn't help with points scored, but he was a strong-armed 3rd baseman at Northville HS and he can certainly deliver a fake FG pass (or catch one). C'mon Jay....

According to his Trainer, Emmanuel Steward, Tommy broke his right hand at some point during the first round. Always wondered why they never rematched, given that hand injury.

I only looked quickly, but I don't think Jack was included on the Depth Chart by Class linked above, so this departure announcement may not help us get under the 85 scholarship number.  I can't find him on the Spring Roster either (Jordan Morant, our other recent departure, *was* listed on the Spring Roster), as the 247 article linked above in this thread did mention.

Leaning toward 9-3....why not get a truly big win on the road this season?

Love the Jimmy Carson reference....local SE Michigan guy who made it, did well enough that he was traded for Gretzky.

Disappointing news to me,…

Disappointing news to me, anyway:

- Lots of rumored malcontents (and subsequent transfers and early draft entrants) in the WR room recently

- Charbonnet was rumored to be saying he was gone if Gattis returned, which obviously happened

- Picking Milton over Cade seems like a bad personnel choice also, with the benefit of hindsight (unless Cade was hurt early, or Milton's hand injury really held him back, etc)

I could go on. What has he brought to the program that warrants this? Alabama pedigree? Telling everyone who will listen how much more time Bama spends on football than we do?Rumored prickliness with other coaches? 6 games of "Good Shea" in late 2019? Anyone got any "plus" items to all the minuses I see?

Maybe the buyout is small, hopefully?...

Weird thing about all of…

Weird thing about all of this is that if the Early Signing Period wasn't approved a few years back, this kind of timing for an extension contract to be announced wouldn't be unusual. A bit late, yes, but it wouldn't have come wrapped in all this fanbase angst. Sigh.

Horrible take. Jake beat out Quinn this fall and had a bad night in Minnesota. Jake was a 80% kicker prior to that night. I'm considering the possibility that both guys will relax and perform better without the rotational whatever going on. Good luck to both.

Interesting comments…

Interesting comments....largely agree.

It seems to me, though, that we've been trying to alter the D to incorporate more zone looks over the past 2 seasons. Pre-supposing that more of a zone package is the way to take away some of tOSU's spread-pass attack, it means we've been trying to do exactly what you suggest, but haven't succeeded. Would you agree?

Appearances count for…

Appearances count for something? Is that the sum total of this take? I'm not happy with the arc of our program either, but this summary smacks of something on a par with name-calling. Higher expectations of the program, but not higher expectations of those covering the program? I appreciated seeing the LB clip, so that part was good. Please let's not descend to M. Rosenberg-like depths, tho.....thanks.

I agree with everything you…

I agree with everything you said, especially about the toughness narrative being problematic.  It's been mentioned many times how JH treats people with injuries on the depth chart....now it seems like illness can be added to the injury beefs a lot of former players have.  I tend not to listen to accusations of favoritism (when I rode the bench in the past, it was easy to assume my coach had his favorites), but if they're rooted in this old school, toughness thing -- they're hard to ignore.

I have heard versions of the DM story elsewhere that line up with the OP.  Coaches like Tom Allen and PJ Fleck get a lot of mileage out of coaching culture.....who could Jimmy turn to in order to get our sniping culture turned around?  Or do we (fans, former players, Michigan HS coaches, etc.) act so entitled to our oft-stated position as the "winningest program" that there's no way to do that under a Harbaugh tenure?

Clarification question for…

Clarification question for you, Ghost of JG (and thx for the post):

When you said "I do not believe this was the case any longer", were you referring to JM winning the job over DM, or that DM was no longer 100% QB1 before deciding to transfer, despite what you saw at practice earlier?

Beilein was also the…

Beilein was also the benefactor of a different structure in the playoffs of his sport, not to mention how the contributions of one player of the year type contributor/recruit can be more impactful to team success in hoops than football.

I understand your larger point, but let's not ignore that the playoff structure is more favorable to raising the profile of a basketball program than a football program.

Great stuff. A very…

Great stuff. A very enjoyable read. As for our red zone defense, it seems that recent deterioration would be directly related to our lack of a stout D-Line. Hoping that guys like Jeter and Hinton will reverse that trend.
