Andrew Dakich, Buckeye Basketball Player

Unlike Justin Boren, I do wish him well. He's dedicated his life to basketball and to get one more year to play at the elite college level is something that's hard to turn down, even it's in Columbus. Of course, against Michigan, I hope he lays goose eggs all over the floor.

In most of the people in this thread.

He got an opportunity to play for a DIVISION 1 SCHOOL.

He can go wherever the fuck he wants after he graduated from Michigan. He was a great program guy, loved the team.

Put aside your disgust for two minutes and wish the kid well.

Gross stuff in this thread.

on a human-to-human level, but it really has no place on a Michigan website. On a normal person level *nothing* on here makes any sense. On a Michigan fan level, it is the worst sin for a Michigan player to transfer and play for the Buckeyes or Spartans.

If we define Michigan Man so loosely that we fully accept them playing for Michigan's archrivals, i.e. directly competing against Michigan, because it is in their best personal interest then the term has lost even the last bit of meaning it once had. If Michigan is just a means to an end for Michigan Men and loyalty and support aren't part of that equation, then jeeze why the heck are you even a Michigan fan.

Just remember that the guys who now cheer when he makes a play are the dudes who might key a visiting Michigan fan's car, throw beer at them, jeer Michigan players and fans alike, revel in every bit of misery you've felt and who spend every waking minute hoping you feel more of it in the future. That's Andrew's new best friends. Of course, in the spirt of sportsmanship we say 'good luck chap!'

Sure, formally he can do as he pleases and yes it's highly likely that Michigan was for him just a college, just a team, he got his degree and that's that. But is that what we hold up as a positive example? Would Jim Harbaugh have come back if it was like that for him? Would guys like Tom Brady still support Michigan if it was like that for them?

Look, I'm not from another planet, if I knew him and he was my friend, I would probably hear his side of the story and may see it from a different point of view.

But as you guys keep saying, I'm just one of a legion of Michigan fans online. And from a fan perspective it's not exactly a great thing, is it? There's a little too much virtue signalling here given that we're supposed to be die hard fans of Michigan, not people analysing things from the viewpoint of Andrew Dakich.

Heck, our *successful* football coaches get more hate here than a dude who goes to play for OSU? See what's wrong with that picture?

You are comparing two great Michigan QBs, to Andrew Dakich? Are you kidding?

He did a wonderful job for the university. He graduated with his degree, and now he has an opportunity to go play DIVISION ONE basketball with another team.

There is zero, zero doubt in my mind this was the best choice he had. To think he needs to go somewhere lesser to appease Michigan fans and prove some stupid ass "Michigan Man" bs is ridiculous. Honestly, who gives a fuck what we think? This is best for HIM, not us.

If he transferred year 2, fine, be a little upset. You are getting mad at someone that already graduated from the school.

should not exist for role players or backups, only for stars? Is this forum not full of people who didn't even play on teams for Michigan and are still committed to the school?

This is a Michigan fan forum, right? I can only repeat it, on a rational level there is no reason for you to be here. There is no reason for you to prefer Michigan over MSU or any other team. You could go on RCMB and have a jolly good time with the chaps there. They're just people like you and I, people with a sense of humor, people with hopes and dreams. What's the difference between it all?

None of us have an *obligation* to Michigan. We could stop supporting Michigan tomorrow, go buy an OSU hat and that's it. Easy enough, right? But then most people here have some feeling for Michigan in some way, right? So maybe it's perhaps *understandable* if some people here would appreciate it if Michigan athletes felt it, too.

What "commitment" does he have to you? This is his life. He wanted to take a grad transfer to continue playing basketball. Ohio State offered, and it was the best fit for him and his interests. Who are you to question that just because of a rivalry? He put four years into Michigan's basketball program. You comment about it on the internet.

and I have no obligation to see things from the point of view of his self-interest.

If you're too much of a virtue signalling, forgive my crude language here,  pussy to be partisan on a sports fan forum on the internet, gee, how effing vanilla are you in real life. If I was your friend and needed your help in a jam, you'd probably try to see things from 'their' point of view first. It's like there's no middle ground with this fanbase, it's either 'fire everyone' if the other team gets a 1st down or some incredible doormats.

....I have zero negative feelings for any college student, athlete or otherwise, just because they don't go to the school I root for.

But as far as all you clowns that think part of being a fan is about some war with a rival fanbase, we'll that is about the most fucking asinine thing I've heard and you're a bunch of idiots.

What commitment do I have to him as a Michigan fan and alum to him now?  He plays for the hated Buckeyes.  Sure, he can do whatever he wants in his own best interest and that's his perogative. But like a lot of you have stated, it's a transaction now for him.  He gets to play and doesn't have to pay tuition and in return he gets more exposure to whatever basketball experience the OSU staff has and whatever educational opportunities he'll get in Columbus.

But as a Michigan fan and as someone who has no personal ties to him at all, don't I have the same perogative to not care if he does well or doesn't?  He's a Buckeye now, he puts on a Buckeye uniform and although I don't wish him ill, I don't have to pretend to have warm fuzzy feelings for him.

Said a ton without really saying anything, other than calling out message board etiquette.

He owes no "committment" to the university because he did his service with the program. He graduated with a Michigan degree and got to play basketball for a great coach. He served his time, and we all appreciate for him.

Now, he has an opportunity to go to another D1 school. My gut tells me, other offers probably didn't compare to this.

Stop comparing US to HIM. I know this might pain you. OSU is a great university for academics. A lot of my close friends graduated from there and are doing wonderful things. He has an opportunity to get a grad degree, and continue playing basketball.

He owes nothing to us, period.

still leaves you as just another dude on the internet. If you see things this rationally then why exactly do you want Michigan to win football games? At the end of the day, it doesn't change your life, it's not a 'real world' thing. Whether the dudes in blue or red win, it's irrelevant. There's good guys and bad guys on both teams. There's smart and dumb fans for both teams. It's irrational to be invested in football and post on internet forums about it. It's a waste of time.

Yet somehow you're here with a Michigan band photo as your avatar. Why not make it an OSU band photo in the spirit of fairness? After all those kids are great musicians too.

Non-factor as far as I'm concerned. As I understand it he originally planned to go to a different school but then found out there wasn't any room for him in the journalism program. It's not like he intentionally joined o$u to spite Michigan. A spot happened to open up at o$u and he took it. We're know we're not looking at a future NBA superstar, he knows it and everybody knows it. He's looking ahead at a career elsewhere and he'd be stupid not to take it.

I don't see him getting any more minutes at OSU than he did at Michigan.  What I see is he gets to play another year of Major College Basketball and learn under another respected coach (Beilein and Holtman).  Someone said he was in journalism but I think he would be a good prospect to go the coaching route.

I may look at early boxscores to see how he does.

This is unfortunate and honestly puzzling... he wasn’t a scholarship player here but OSU offers him a pg year? Does OSU officially suck at basketball now? I will truly miss him courtside wearing the colors of the good guys. Mob squad

Dakich is a Michigan double agent sent into the belly of the enemy by both Jim and John to not only gather all intel available in the OSU athletic dept but also guarantee Michigan a mid Feb win near the end of the B1G schedule.  It's brilliant! Great job coaches!!!

Good Luck Agent Pine Rider!

It's always seemed to me that an essential difference between the M and OSU camps is the general ability of one to keep a reasonable perspective on sports rivalries, and the general inability of the other to do the same.

Who needs a worthless towel waver that can't play basketball.

If Dako is on the court, you attack and shred him to pieces.
