11W doesn't know when to give it up

this from an 11W recruitng mailbag...have a good laugh

Where do things stand with Dymonte Thomas?

Things are the same as they have been. He is committed to Michigan but did not close the door on the staff when they reached out to recruit him. The old staff botched this one completely and Urban has to make up a lot of ground, with the help of Bri'onte Dunn. This will not be easy, but it is possible. I am not saying it will happen by any means as he has a good relationship with some of the UM recruits and is saying all the right things, but watch him closely as actions speak louder than words sometimes.

We all know how close Dymonte is to his cousin, but his brother also attends OSU.  Dymonte told aquaman that he may visit OSU but it would be for family over.

So don't be shocked if pictures show up of Dymonte standing on Ohio's sideline during a game at some point during the season.

I think Dunn stayed because he was a life-long OSU fan and once he learned there was only a 1 year postseason ban from the NCAA there wasn't enough reason for him to leave his childhood dream school. Looking back it was impressive for Brady Hoke to keep Dunn open for as long as he was.

Picasso painted individual facial features pretty accurately, but it doesn't mean he gave a good representation of the human face.

You can make a series of accurate statements that add up to a completely inaccurate picture. Everything in the article is either true or theoreticaly defensible, but it gives the impression that Ohio has a decent chance to flip Dymonte when Dymonte himself has given the opposite impression at pretty much every chance.

Honest question:

Has Dymonte not closed the door?  As in has he basically told Meyer he no longer wants to hear from Meyer?  I know he's said all the right things and is planning on rooming with Morris, and had that piece about him and committment/standing by your word being really important to him and his family, etc.  But has he actually told Ohio's staff to fuck off (albeit nicer)?

I remember he did an interview with Aquaman that seemed to indicate he informed Meyer he was not interested. I do not believe he told Meyer to stop contacting him though. Plus, all these interview to fanbases tend to slant in favor of the fans interviewing recruits. They generally always want to appease the people interested in them. From eveything, it doesn't seem there is little to no chance he goes to Ohio but 11W is representing it as a higher chance than it is.

Kids often say they're 100% committed before decommitting.  I'm not saying that will happen, but what a kid says and what a kid does are completely different things.  Sometimes kids say "I'm going to wait until National Signing Day" and then end up committing a couple weeks later.

This isn't groundbreaking, but here's my rule: Don't get too attached to a recruit until he signs his National Letter of Intent.

Too much can happen in the world of recruiting.  I'm sure at one point Ohio State fans didn't think Kyle Kalis would decommit in favor of Michigan, too.

I believe ex-Buckeye coach and AFL and NFL innovator Sid Gillman said it best when he was asked why he wished to keep coaching in the NFL and not return to college coaching:  "I'm not going back to any job where a 19 year old is running down the sidelines with my paycheck in his mouth".

So what you're really trying to say is.. recruits are like females. Take all promises with a grain of salt.  If some chick you dig says she wants to marry you, you better make it happen before she ditches you for the next rich dude flappin' his big wad of cash around her face.  Don't play around. Just take her to Vegas and get that thing over and done with before it's too late.

But since we don't have that luxury in the recruiting world... PANIC!!!

I shouldn't admit to this but I do read bucknuts. My buddy had a membership and I let him read espn with my account so its a good trade off but Bucknuts has a little radio show on this week and Dunn was on there. Not in the actual podcast did he say it but off air he said the Dymonte is going to Michigan and theres no chnaging his mind. He told the host of the show not to ask about cause it was a dead issue. Buckeye fans were like meh hes just saying that, but if Dymonte actually has said that to Dunn and he is respecting his wishes then Kudo's.

This is actually great, and only helps Michigan:

  • It ends up wasting their time
  • It irritates Dymonte
  • It keeps Dymonte in the limelight, thus highlighting Michigan recruiting success
  • It proves that some good recruits, from Ohio, want nothing to do with Ohio.
  • It shows other recruits that Meyer doesn't have a magical pull.
  • It irritates Ohio fans.

All of these outcomes are a positive. I can't think of any negatives, can you?

Palpatine also had the family thing on his side (just like Meyer has Brionte) as Luke's father was already committed to the dark side. Luke, unbelievably, eventually got his father to decommit. Although I don't think Brionte would transfer to Michigan, this example does provide confidence that Dymonte will stick with his commitment and resist the temptation of the dark side.

I would say Meyer is more Dooku than Maul. Dooku quit on the Jedi Order saying it just wasn't for him, only to resurface a little while later on the Dark Side. Meyer quit coaching citing health problem, only to come back a year later coaching for the Buckeyes.

Good call on Tressel - Emperor Palpatine. Tressel rose to power during a sensitive time in Michigan football. Henson had just left us and Martin started to make cuts in all areas of the AD because of us being in trouble financial trouble after troubling leadership under the previous AD. Palpatine capitalized on a weakened Republic and the people and Senate started to panic and he really seized control. The galaxy didn't recover until after years of suffering and the Emperor got overconfident. Vader turned on him and the Empire was over. Took a while for Michigan to recover and it was aided just a tad by Buckeyes turning on themselves and committing violations and Tressel being overconfident and hiding info from the NCAA, eventually screwing them over.

Darth Maul was so awesome. One of the few things that Lucas got right in the prequels. Too bad he killed him off.
