Rivals Mod: No Truth to GERG rumors
This is Misopogon - I'm leaving this board post up in case anyone comes hearing a rumor about Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Robinson and a resignation. A rumor was posted on a Rivals board, and a moderator refuted it. At the moment, it seems like someobody made something up, and then someone else with information called it ridiculous. Michigan's defensive coordinator is Greg Robinson, and there is zero information, credible or otherwise, suggesting otherwise. Carry on.
Original post:
That's it and that's all.
2 separate people have said it, though sourcing is unclear at this point, so it could be false / someone screwing around.. Have to say that I think if he did resign it would be the best move for both parties at this time.
My apologies if I'm just making a bad joke worse, but it is Halloween after all. Mods - feel free to take this down if you've got info to the contrary or think that it is just BS.
UPDATE: One of the guys has now backed off, saying it isn't a done deal. Seems fishy...
UPDATE 2: Now a Mod has refuted. Go back to thinking whatever it was that you were thinking before this happened.

Probably not very much. I could be wrong but it seems like most of the big time recruits we are going after cite Jay Jopson as their main recruiter.
Then again it does show instability in the staff here which could play a role in a few recruits.

Jay Hopson? Not anymore. That dude broke camp long time ago!

You're right... I think I meant Gibson.
Studying all day on a post dong-punch day has scrambled my brains.

No biggie. But you're right on it being Gibson.

I was just listening to some Janis Joplin...you're confusing me

At least the OP was open about the source. It was a take it or leave it kind of a thing. What exactly does REFUTED BY MODS mean? Did they call someone? Did someone call them? What is their source?

That MGoBlog's Message Board has turned out ridiculous threads at the rate of about one per hour for the past 24 hours.
I suggest a new rule, that only Brian Cook can post anything, for the next six days.
October 31st, 2010 at 10:49 PM ^
While we all enjoy the blog and appreciate the efforts of Mr. Cook to create such a gret forum....
Can individuals such as yourself be banned from virtually blowing him? We get it, we respect his opinion. But he is not the only contributor to this blog....hence, it is a blog. The content is mostly user generated, for better or worse.
There are numerous mods, and thousands of visitors and members sharing opinions (smart and retarded) all the time. That is what makes a blog, and gets it all its traffic and high search rating, etc.
Brian has a sweet site, and deserves all the credit in the world for sharing his blog vision with us. That being said, his content is often no more valuable and at times less knowledgeable than that of some of the other contributors here.
There are times (such as after a brutal loss like last night) when a post ban is necessary....but let's not jump the shark and assume Brian is the only one level-headed enough to post a coherent sentence after dong punches. In fact...anyone this invested in Michigan football...to have created this sweet site, is probably just as, if not more emotional than the rest of us about what happened.
All that being said....After seeing the "We suck post" with the random jibberish as if someone fell asleep on the keyboard...perhaps we need a sobriety test before posts allowed.

I know GERG pulled in some great recruits at Syracuse, but I'm not concerned overall if he were fired at the end of the season. An exciting new defensive coordinator who says the same things that everyone else does would probably do just as well or better.
November 1st, 2010 at 7:51 AM ^
I think the vast majority of Syracuse fans and sports media who cover Syracuse football would say the exact opposite: Robinson was a horrible recruiter in addition to being a horrible coach.
November 1st, 2010 at 7:18 PM ^
I thought I was being blatantly ironic, but I guess not. No worries.
October 31st, 2010 at 7:23 PM ^
Assuming the demotion rumor is correct, you'd pretty much half to resign. To go from HC to DC to position coach who is clearly going to fired at the end of the year would be a lot of take. If this is true I wish the hair the best of luck and thank him for his service. At least he gave us Mouton.
Now we go form the lynch mob for Gibson right? Everything Gibson produces sucks (DBs and Special Teams). If we're going to clean up our defensive coaching staff lets make sure we get everything that needs to be cleaned.

Half resign?
October 31st, 2010 at 7:30 PM ^
I agree that Gibson has not proved himself to be a very good coach thus far. I question if RR would actually fire him though. All of the coaches that came with him from WVU are still here and I feel like RR is going to be loyal to them because they have all been loyal to him. Just my opinion but I don't see RR firing Gibson.

Tall promoted to DC

With 4 weeks left in the season, it's not like you can instill a new defense or a whole bunch of new stuff and expect the results to be much better. Heck, I'd say with all the youth it could be worse to install new stuff.
November 1st, 2010 at 12:39 AM ^
I don't think they'd install much new stuff, but it would give the players a fresh voice to listen to. If the players aren't responding to GERG, that can be worth something. They seemed to respond when RR got in their huddle yesterday.
November 1st, 2010 at 9:31 AM ^
While I agree that it could be worse long term for the younger players with a lack of continuity from the coaching staff, I find it hard to believe that the on field product could get a whole lot worse...

Fred Jackson was demoted from OC to running backs coach. He then gave us Anthony Thomas, Chris Perry, and Mike Hart.
I agree that GERG probably wouldn't accept a demotion, but it's a bit of an overstatement to say that demotions never work.
November 1st, 2010 at 12:18 AM ^
It wasn't totally a demotion, though - Jackson did receive the title of associate head coach after he lost the OC job.

We need to clear the whole defensive coaching staff, not jsut Gerg
October 31st, 2010 at 11:47 PM ^
I'm assuming when you say "the whole defensive coaching staff" you mean "the whole defensive coaching staff excluding Tall" because i'd like him to stick around.
I know a lot of people are on Gibson lately. I get the impression that he is a pretty good recruiter, has been with Rrod forever, and doesn't have much to work with in multiple areas.
I'm not of the "Fire everyone" or even "Fire GERG NOW" opinions.. but i really wouldn't have a problem with any change they'd want to make, because after watching our defense this year I'm willing to try anything.
Really hard to tell how much is players, how much is coaching. We can't "fire" all the players and bring in new experienced, talented, quick learning, hard working personnell immediately, so if changes need to be made, let's get it over with.
October 31st, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
So.. where does the program go from here? We'll find out soon enough.
October 31st, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
Recommendation: we put 11 Shake Weights on the field instead of our defense. No mental mistakes, no coaching blunders, and maybe one will trip the ball carrier.
October 31st, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
play all of them can we still get a medical redshirt on them?
October 31st, 2010 at 7:28 PM ^
gibson has become RR's debord. I don't understand why he is getting a free pass.
October 31st, 2010 at 7:31 PM ^
is RR's best friend.
October 31st, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
At least he isn't a coordinator- for now.
October 31st, 2010 at 8:12 PM ^
the recruiting coordinator; the main reason that he is still besides the RR buddy thing?
October 31st, 2010 at 9:02 PM ^
Recruits like Gibson, but he isn't the coordinator. The coordinator, Chris Singletary, actually isn't even a coach.

OK I know this is probably just someone throwing stuff out there, but:

"Some wild rumors swirling in AA right now. Greg Robinson possibly out. Bruce Tall in as DC. Gary Moeller back in some form (seriously) wow"

About Moeller? What would he do? I are confused.

I would be thrilled with this. Always been a Gary Moeller fan.

October 31st, 2010 at 9:59 PM ^
If they're bringing Moeller in, he is DB's guy. i.e., in the event they fire Rich, Gary is the interim head coach - so DB is bringing him in now to try and fix things while getting to know the players.
November 1st, 2010 at 1:18 AM ^
I highly doubt this is the case.
Brandon is too smart to do this, as it would be seriously undermining his head coach (RR). If he did this, what kind of message would it send to future HC candidates about how Brandon operates? Certainly not a good one.
