Rivals Mod: No Truth to GERG rumors

Submitted by pz on

This is Misopogon - I'm leaving this board post up in case anyone comes hearing a rumor about Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Robinson and a resignation. A rumor was posted on a Rivals board, and a moderator refuted it. At the moment, it seems like someobody made something up, and then someone else with information called it ridiculous. Michigan's defensive coordinator is Greg Robinson, and there is zero information, credible or otherwise, suggesting otherwise. Carry on.

Original post:

That's it and that's all.

2 separate people have said it, though sourcing is unclear at this point, so it could be false / someone screwing around.. Have to say that I think if he did resign it would be the best move for both parties at this time.

My apologies if I'm just making a bad joke worse, but it is Halloween after all. Mods - feel free to take this down if you've got info to the contrary or think that it is just BS.

UPDATE: One of the guys has now backed off, saying it isn't a done deal. Seems fishy...

UPDATE 2: Now a Mod has refuted. Go back to thinking whatever it was that you were thinking before this happened.

Probably not very much.  I could be wrong but it seems like most of the big time recruits we are going after cite Jay Jopson as their main recruiter.

Then again it does show instability in the staff here which could play a role in a few recruits.

At least the OP was open about the source.  It was a take it or leave it kind of a thing.  What exactly does REFUTED BY MODS mean?  Did they call someone?  Did someone call them?  What is their source?

That MGoBlog's Message Board has turned out ridiculous threads at the rate of about one per hour for the past 24 hours.

I suggest a new rule, that only Brian Cook can post anything, for the next six days.

While we all enjoy the blog and appreciate the efforts of Mr. Cook to create such a gret forum....

Can individuals such as yourself be banned from virtually blowing him?  We get it, we respect his opinion.  But he is not the only contributor to this blog....hence, it is a blog.  The content is mostly user generated, for better or worse.

There are numerous mods, and thousands of visitors and members sharing opinions (smart and retarded) all the time.  That is what makes a blog, and gets it all its traffic and high search rating, etc.

Brian has a sweet site, and deserves all the credit in the world for sharing his blog vision with us.  That being said, his content is often no more valuable and at times less knowledgeable than that of some of the other contributors here.

There are times (such as after a brutal loss like last night) when a post ban is necessary....but let's not jump the shark and assume Brian is the only one level-headed enough to post a coherent sentence after dong punches.  In fact...anyone this invested in Michigan football...to have created this sweet site, is probably just as, if not more emotional than the rest of us about what happened.

All that being said....After seeing the "We suck post" with the random jibberish as if someone fell asleep on the keyboard...perhaps we need a sobriety test before posts allowed.

I know GERG pulled in some great recruits at Syracuse, but I'm not concerned overall if he were fired at the end of the season.  An exciting new defensive coordinator who says the same things that everyone else does would probably do just as well or better.

Assuming the demotion rumor is correct, you'd pretty much half to resign.  To go from HC to DC to position coach who is clearly going to fired at the end of the year would be a lot of take.  If this is true I wish the hair the best of luck and thank him for his service.  At least he gave us Mouton.

Now we go form the lynch mob for Gibson right?  Everything Gibson produces sucks (DBs and Special Teams).  If we're going to clean up our defensive coaching staff lets make sure we get everything that needs to be cleaned.

I agree that Gibson has not proved himself to be a very good coach thus far.  I question if RR would actually fire him though.  All of the coaches that came with him from WVU are still here and I feel like RR is going to be loyal to them because they have all been loyal to him.  Just my opinion but I don't see RR firing Gibson.

I don't think they'd install much new stuff, but it would give the players a fresh voice to listen to.  If the players aren't responding to GERG, that can be worth something.  They seemed to respond when RR got in their huddle yesterday.

any context. In business, and this is business, if you lose faith in someone he has to go. Besides, no way Robinson accepts a demotion. He will and should resign if Rod wants a change.

I'm assuming when you say "the whole defensive coaching staff" you mean "the whole defensive coaching staff excluding Tall" because i'd like him to stick around.

I know a lot of people are on Gibson lately. I get the impression that he is a pretty good recruiter, has been with Rrod forever, and doesn't have much to work with in multiple areas.

I'm not of the "Fire everyone" or even "Fire GERG NOW" opinions.. but i really wouldn't have a problem with any change they'd want to make, because after watching our defense this year I'm willing to try anything.

Really hard to tell how much is players, how much is coaching. We can't "fire" all the players and bring in new experienced, talented, quick learning, hard working personnell immediately, so if changes need to be made, let's get it over with.

If this is true, the rest of the staff better get the ax at the end of the year. I think it has to be all or none. Gibson can hang around as some sort of a recruiting coord if he wants, but he shouldn't be allowed near the field.

OK I know this is probably just someone throwing stuff out there, but:

"Some wild rumors swirling in AA right now. Greg Robinson possibly out. Bruce Tall in as DC. Gary Moeller back in some form (seriously) wow"

Also if mods feels this is not needed, please do not hesitate to remove.
