META: Spartan Week Reminder
Greetings MGoDenizens. Just a reminder that this is a week where a fan base with an inferiority complex will be taking on your Michigan Wolverines.
This leads to unfun things in these parts, so remember, don't feed the trolls. Mods will take care of them when we have the time. Downvote and move on.
We're expecting this type of stuff not only this week, but next week, and every week, because if you're a Spartan, you have nothing better to do.
And on that note, let it be said, DO NOT GO TROLLING THEIR BOARDS EITHER. It only encourages them to troll back. Take the high road and stick to your own team's blog(s).
[Geaux_Blue edit]: Bump this post if/when you spot one. Helpful.

On the one hand he gets more hits to the site (thanks for the extra cash, assholes!); on the other his creation gets bombarded by complete nonsense and the signal-to-noise ratio drops dangerously close to 1:1 (or worse).
October 4th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
Honestly that is probably the most ideal situation. Why bother going through all that effort to see what they have to say and then ban them?
Honestly are we that stricken for content that we have to resort to negbanging and troll-hating? I mean people complain about stupid threads being started when regular users are on the board, yet people want legit trolls to roll through on the board and post?
I am all for Brian just turning off new user registration. If there is a legit Michigan fan who really wants an account this week, then they can email Brian or one of the mods.

It happens all the time during the NHL playoffs. I'm not a troll, but I do like to go to whoever the Wings are playing and read what the other side has to say, but the past few years, a couple of those messages boards require you to be a registered user to even read forum topics, and during the playoffs they will put a hold on any new registrations.
Maybe overkill - but it is effective.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
That's one of the many differences between this and other forums. On MLive, the trolls are given seven-course meals. It's sometimes amazing.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:54 PM ^
i love how they're planning all these attacks on rcmb, and we can see every fucking thing they're doing.
poor souls, they dont have anything better to do, and are so naive and shortsighted that they believe that if they post their secret battle plans online, we wont find out and stop them before they even get the chance to get going.
little brother indeed.

Looking forward to another edition of this come next Monday.
Sorry, it never gets old.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:09 PM ^
Never heard that before. Is he crying? Hilarious.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:10 PM ^
Hilarious
October 4th, 2010 at 1:12 PM ^
Is that the same rant where he suggests MSU hires HR Pufnstuf and Teddy Ruxbin to coach?
October 4th, 2010 at 1:30 PM ^
here's part 2
makes me want to download and watch that game.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:52 PM ^
Hilarious!!!! Thanks for posting this.
October 4th, 2010 at 3:03 PM ^
Oh. my. god. This is fantastic!
October 8th, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
That rant just never gets old.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
It's this week that I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes ever:
"The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."
--Hubert H. Humphrey
Don't feed the beast.
October 4th, 2010 at 12:57 PM ^
But what if you just didn't allow new people to join this week (And next week too if we were to lose)? You can even let them join, but not post till next week. That might be to fine a point on a computer system to do, technically. But for those who are just joining for trouble, they can't. And for anyone who really wants to follow the site, they can wait a week. (Realizing this might be a completely ridiculous and unfeasible suggestion).
October 4th, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
to implement that 500 point minimum for starting new threads.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:14 PM ^
I wholeheartedly agree.
Maybe also ratchet up the pts needed to upvote/downvote to 50 or 100, so that they cant ever get up to the point where they can sustain themselves.
October 4th, 2010 at 8:18 PM ^
If they ever start downvoting UM fans, I'm sure the rest of us will quickly have that guy's back and up-vote him beyond belief.
October 4th, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
They can neg me all they want. Neggin' ain't free. I think I've got the room to spare.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
to park their RV in my driveway, and I have to put away the good liquor and buy some cheap beer. I hope they go away soon.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
I don't care about the trolls, or random Sparty postings, etc. They will be banned quickly enough. But if their invasion of our blog starts giving me Gateway 502 Timeouts I am going to go APE on someone.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:21 PM ^
Sometimes troll behavior can be very amusing.
But if troll content becomes annoying and clogs the site up with stupidity, yes, raise the threshold for posting and for new users.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:22 PM ^
Trolling boards is no fun....what's funner is trolling Wikipedia....

Our Munn Invasion was better than anything they could come up with.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:33 PM ^
I had you all fooled for more than a year. I'm really a Spartan. And I've been waiting patiently for this moment, steadily earning your trust and enough MGoPoints to become neg proof. And now I spring my trap:
MICHIGAN SUX!!!
Totally worth it.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:35 PM ^
that 90% of the troll accounts have ended up being "Walmart Spartans"
October 4th, 2010 at 1:36 PM ^
Wasn't their a add on this site with a coupon what you could use to buy one of them nice U of M leather jackets? Trying to get one before Saturday....gotta reprasent my school when I'm out ripping walleye lips on the Detroit River after we crush Spartans and Danard runs for about 300 yards and passes for another 250!
Go Bluuuuue!!!!!
October 4th, 2010 at 2:01 PM ^
Nice of you to drop by.

You are quite intelligent
October 4th, 2010 at 1:37 PM ^
They had a field day with Tate last year. Denard won't be so easy.
October 4th, 2010 at 1:47 PM ^
They get food poisoning.
October 4th, 2010 at 2:19 PM ^
1) They lack the cognitive capacity to actually start a thread
2) They resemble a poisonous rash, in that they shrivel up and disappear when they are ignored
3) They are envious of our mgopoints.
I like being classy
October 4th, 2010 at 3:07 PM ^
My favorite part: "You know whats really annoying? Word verifications." Really? You go troll an opponent's message board, and you're really annoyed by the new-user registration Captcha? Hilarious.
October 4th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
Attacks complements of a Barwis hybrid wolf dog. Just ask Sparty
October 4th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
Or, uhm....nevermind...
October 4th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
Is it just me or has Brian turned off Mgopoints in order to not allow newb users the ability to ratchet up enough points and start meaningless troll threads? I just tried to +1 someone on another thread and its a no go for me.
Edit: Maybe its just the Up/Down arrows that are turned off???
Either way it was a good idea.
October 4th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
How did you piss Brian off?
October 4th, 2010 at 3:38 PM ^
Last Friday basic user status got bumped up to 100 MGoPoints, so we the riff-raff can't vote anymore. If you check your email there should be a notification that you lost part of your MGoTriforce.
October 4th, 2010 at 3:11 PM ^
what's good for the goose is good for the gander...
We don't really want to hear from any MGoBloggers about how they snuck on a Spartan site (why anyone would want to do that is beyond me) and talked crap.
Let's be Leaders and Best - this week and every week.
Go Blue!!!
(footnote - gander being an acronym for our little sister... of course)
October 4th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
I'm guessing a deleted post to a troll is worse than any negative comments they get. It's hard for them to brag up their post to their fellow trolls if it's not there to read.
October 4th, 2010 at 3:57 PM ^
What if there's a sparty in this thread, right now.
I don't trust anyone anymore.
October 4th, 2010 at 3:59 PM ^
erm... wait...
shit.

That post was made from INSIDE THE HOUSE!

MAC level invasion
Apparently "they didn't want to invade anyways." Couldn't be that they couldn't get a ball rolling
My favorite...

Mgopoints. What is this? They just slap each other on the back with points whenever they bash State for beating up old ladies or something? Why haven't we implemented such a great system?
|
... i think you answered your own question of why the system exists...
October 4th, 2010 at 4:18 PM ^
That just made me laugh out loud for real.
It's kind of funny to see them try and figure out our beloved blog.
How many Spartans does it take to post on MgoBlog?
Apparently none cause dey too stupid to figure it out haha

I'm in a Sparty rich environment, up north in Charlevoix, including my next door neighbor. I'll be sporting Maize and Blue whenever possible this week. The Block M is flying, as well.
