META: Spartan Week Reminder

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

Greetings MGoDenizens. Just a reminder that this is a week where a fan base with an inferiority complex will be taking on your Michigan Wolverines.

This leads to unfun things in these parts, so remember, don't feed the trolls. Mods will take care of them when we have the time. Downvote and move on.

We're expecting this type of stuff not only this week, but next week, and every week, because if you're a Spartan, you have nothing better to do.

And on that note, let it be said, DO NOT GO TROLLING THEIR BOARDS EITHER. It only encourages them to troll back. Take the high road and stick to your own team's blog(s).

[Geaux_Blue edit]: Bump this post if/when you spot one. Helpful.

Honestly that is probably the most ideal situation. Why bother going through all that effort to see what they have to say and then ban them?

Honestly are we that stricken for content that we have to resort to negbanging and troll-hating? I mean people complain about stupid threads being started when regular users are on the board, yet people want legit trolls to roll through on the board and post?

I am all for Brian just turning off new user registration. If there is a legit Michigan fan who really wants an account this week, then they can email Brian or one of the mods.

It happens all the time during the NHL playoffs.  I'm not a troll, but I do like to go to whoever the Wings are playing and read what the other side has to say, but the past few years, a couple of those messages boards require you to be a registered user to even read forum topics, and during the playoffs they will put a hold on any new registrations.

Maybe overkill - but it is effective.

i love how they're planning all these attacks on rcmb, and we can see every fucking thing they're doing.

poor souls, they dont have anything better to do, and are so naive and shortsighted that they believe that if they post their secret battle plans online, we wont find out and stop them before they even get the chance to get going.

little brother indeed.

It's this week that I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes ever:

"The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."
--Hubert H. Humphrey

Don't feed the beast.

But what if you just didn't allow new people to join this week (And next week too if we were to lose)? You can even let them join, but not post till next week.  That might be to fine a point on a computer system to do, technically.  But for those who are just joining for trouble, they can't. And for anyone who really wants to follow the site, they can wait a week. (Realizing this might be a completely ridiculous and unfeasible suggestion).

I don't care about the trolls, or random Sparty postings, etc.  They will be banned quickly enough.  But if their invasion of our blog starts giving me Gateway 502 Timeouts I am going to go APE on someone.

Sometimes troll behavior can be very amusing.

But if troll content becomes annoying and clogs the site up with stupidity, yes, raise the threshold for posting and for new users.

I had you all fooled for more than a year.  I'm really a Spartan.  And I've been waiting patiently for this moment, steadily earning your trust and enough MGoPoints to become neg proof.  And now I spring my trap:

MICHIGAN SUX!!!

Totally worth it.

1) They lack the cognitive capacity to actually start a thread

2) They resemble a poisonous rash, in that they shrivel up and disappear when they are ignored

3) They are envious of our mgopoints.

I like being classy

Is it just me or has Brian turned off Mgopoints in order to not allow newb users the ability to ratchet up enough points and start meaningless troll threads?  I just tried to +1 someone on another thread and its a no go for me.

Edit: Maybe its just the Up/Down arrows that are turned off???

Either way it was a good idea.

what's good for the goose is good for the gander...

We don't really want to hear from any MGoBloggers about how they snuck on a Spartan site (why anyone would want to do that is beyond me) and talked crap.

Let's be Leaders and Best - this week and every week.

Go Blue!!!

(footnote - gander being an acronym for our little sister... of course)

I'm guessing a deleted post to a troll is worse than any negative comments they get. It's hard for them to brag up their post to their fellow trolls if it's not there to read.

MAC level invasion

Apparently "they didn't want to invade anyways." Couldn't be that they couldn't get a ball rolling

My favorite...

How many points do you need to start threads.

Mgopoints. What is this? They just slap each other on the back with points whenever they bash State for beating up old ladies or something? Why haven't we implemented such a great system?

... i think you answered your own question of why the system exists...

That just made me laugh out loud for real.

It's kind of funny to see them try and figure out our beloved blog.

How many Spartans does it take to post on MgoBlog?

Apparently none cause dey too stupid to figure it out haha

I'm in a Sparty rich environment, up north in Charlevoix, including my next door neighbor. I'll be sporting Maize and Blue whenever possible this week. The Block M is flying, as well.
