Dantonio Stable After Heart-Related Matter
Per one of my friends at MSU who has ties to the athletic department, and let me quality first by saying:
THIS IS JUST A RUMOR
Apparently, Mark Dantonio suffered a heart attack and there will be a 1 pm EST press conference about it. He heard it from Fox Sports News reporter Jennifer Hammond but can't get anyone actually in the department to verify anything.
Granted, we had that same hoax when some sideline reporter said that Tate was transferring, so take this with a HUGE grain of salt.

Heart Attack before the Rose Bowl after the epic upset of Ohio State. Never wish heart problems on anyone, but with D'Antonio, Urban Meyer, etc. I think that head coaching may be approaching Deadliest Catch levels of stressful job status.

Please don't compare D'Anotonio to Schembechler.

When Bo's full blown heart attack didn't happen till a month after The Game.

ESPN is reporting he had a stent put in a blocked artery. No mention of his current status. This is clearly not a minor issue, hopefully he is recovering well.

Wishing a speedy recovery to Mark Dantonio.

I despise him as a football coach, God Bless him and I pray for a speedy recovery.

I thought he had a strange reaction/demeanor when that reporter was interviewing him right after the game last night. In hindsight this doesn't surprise me.
I hope he recovers well, and can get through this with no lasting effects. Sparty dislike aside, he's an OK guy.
September 19th, 2010 at 2:17 PM ^
I don't really think this had anything to do with his demeanor in the interview last night, but who knows.
September 19th, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
He just seemed out of breath or overwhlemed or something. I get the extreme emotion of a huge moment and all, but he had a "I gotta go because I don't feel that great right now..." sort of behavior.

Glad he is stable. Don't like the man, but hope his health is in order for his family's sake

This is unbelievable news. Football is a game played for our enjoyment. The health of another human being is so much more important, it's not even worth mentioning. Get well soon, coach.

Best wishes and speedy recovery, Coach.

Depending on the severity of myocardial damage, his length of stay in the hospital should be less than one week. I don't think he'll coach next week. It is possible that he could coach in two weeks however.

Wow - I sincerely hope he is okay.
September 19th, 2010 at 1:46 PM ^
sweating that fake FG call.
Obviously, hoping he's okay.
September 19th, 2010 at 1:44 PM ^
And now that he knows it's an issue, he'll be watched carefully. Can't imagine his doctors wanting him back on the sidelines right away. We fans get stressed enough when our team is playing; it's got to be stress to the nth degree for the coaches. And that exciting finish last night... Even positive stress is stress on the system.
Best wishes to him, his family, and the MSU community.

Here's wishing you both a full recovery and a massive beatdown on October 9th.
September 19th, 2010 at 1:55 PM ^
I want to see your smiling face roaming the sidelines again soon.
September 19th, 2010 at 2:17 PM ^
Ditto. Hope he recovers fully.
Is it bad that I think this was caused by the overwhelming joy from his ballsy call last night? I don't think I've ever seen him smile like that ever.
In fact, I think this is some real video of what happened to his heart:
Too soon?

LOL! Nice!
September 19th, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
All rivalry vitriol aside, Sparty, I hope to see a healthy Dantonio on the sidelines at the Big House on October 9th.
September 19th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
Despite my misgivings about the guy as a coach, my best wishes (as well as the UM faithful) go out to Dantonio. Hopefully he will recover fully and be back to coaching as soon as possible.

1-2 with the Irish so far, but you can't question his evil voodoo powers. I'm guessing future opponents are going to run off-tackle a lot and kick on 4th down.
Hope Coach Dantonio makes a full and speedy recovery.

The articles say that Coach Dantonio was taken to the hospital hours after the game- early intervention is important when it comes to myocardial ischemia. I'm just a medical student but the articles all note they intervened early enough, rather than a few days later. His doctor said just as much, and they expect a full recovery. So that's a very good thing and I have nothing but the best wishes for the MSU family as he recovers.

the game with MSU wont be the same without you.
The stress these coaches are under is just incredible. Most of us have no idea what its like.
My dad has had 4 heart-attacks. There is no such thing as a "minor" one.
I hope for his families sake he walks away from coaching instead of putting his health/life at further risk by staying in the pressure cooker that is the life of a major college coach.
Godspeed to you coach.

Add my name to this giant get well card.
September 19th, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
I hope he is back pronto, the guy is a helluva football coach, that was pure brilliance last night.
September 19th, 2010 at 6:27 PM ^
Hope he takes care of himself.

This board is very classy. You would never see this display of good will and generosity on Spartan boards.

State fan here. Just wanted to thank you guys for all the kind words and prayers regarding Dantonio. Really classy of you guys. Wish you continued success the rest of the season (except on Oct 9th). God Bless
