All Time Favorite Michigan Football Players
It has been a recent trend on twitter to post your favorite players of all time for individual sports. Eric Upchurch tweaked this trend on twitter and posted a list that included his favorite michigan football players at each position. Tight end Paul Seal - when he walked through the Diag in the winter in his ankle length maxi-coat, the crowds parted like the Red Sea. IMHO he was one bad mutha...
QB Dennis Franklin - ran the option with aplomb. Good guy too - he was in an accounting class that I took.
RB/Wing Gil Chapman - another bad mutha... He drove a black car with "Black Bird" painted on the side. One tough runner.
Giving major love to Desmond Howard.
He made diving catches look like poetry in motion. (I suspect sometimes he didn't even need to dive for some attempts but he wanted to give the crowd a thrill.) This is a guy that didn't catch a single pass in high school. He played tailback. He caught passes between two Buckeye defenders who towered over him. His return game was deadly.
It was a luxury that we were so loaded with talent at every position that we didn't even NEED to go to Demond more than several times a game at times.
After all these years, his highlights are still major porn....

Because he kicked my ass when we played Hartland HS and he was a 10th grader playing varsity back in 1981. I was a 240 lb 6'3 OT and he pushed me back 5 yards every play. I'm glad he followed me to Michigan. I was way too slow to play for Michigan.
My favorites go as far back as 1966, when I came to UM and was on the team, so I'll have way more players to select from than you young kids. I know most of these players personally:
QB Rick Leach Jim Harbaugh Tom Brady Don Moorehead
RB Ron Johnson Rob Lytle Tyrone Wheatley Jamie Morris
FB Garvy Craw Ed Shuttlesworth Leroy Hoard
WR Anthony Carter Desmond Howard Armani Toomer
TE Jim Mandich Ron Kramer Mike Hankwitiz
OL Joe Daton Dan Dierdorf Jon Runyon Steve Hutchinson Reggie McKenzie Jake Long Steve Everitt Frank Titus Kurt Becker Dick Caldorazzo Bill Yearby Dick Yanz
DL Ceicil Pryor Mark Hammerstine Sam Sword Phil Seymore Mark Messner
LB Dennis Morgan Tom Stincic Marty Huff Tom Ciccinni Jim Detwiller Frank Nunnally
CB Charles Woodson Barry Pierson Rick Volk Jourdan Lewis
S Tom Curtis (still holds the Big !0 Interception record with 24 from 1967 to 1969) Jabril Peppers Rick Segar
There are lots of guys I've left off the list who deserve to be on it.
QB - Jim Harbaugh
RB - Tyrone Wheatley
WR - Braylon Edwards
TE - Jake Butt
OT - Jake Long
OG - Steve Hutchinson
DE - Brandon Graham
DT - Alan Branch
ILB - David Harris
OLB - LaMarr Woodley
CB - Charles Woodson
S - Jabrill Peppers
#2 Charles Woodson - (Easy Pick)
Charles was the center piece of the 1997 Championship Team. It was the only one in my lifetime.
Otherwise, you have to look back to 1948 for the last title...
