Izzo 'took too many bullets'

Submitted by MGlobules on

In his post-stomp interview Izzo says he's "taken too many bullets not to come back next year," has a bunch of uncomplimentary things to say about MSU's fans:

Yep, Izzo's the martyr, not the women who got punched and raped, saw justice denied. All that was set aside while the more important business of his vain pursuit of an NC continued. Shameful.

He can't hide from the press, as talking to them after games is a contractual obligation.  He has certainly made it clear he won't talk about scandal related issues until some later, non-specified date.  Dantonio is under no such obligation for now, so he 'hides'.  As I recall, he spent most of last spring clammed up about his football team.  I suspect it will be the same this year, with the approval and encouragement of MSU's PR wonks.

“I never ever planned on going anywhere,”

Said Izzo after losing for the third time in a row as a tournament favorite, in the first weekend of tournament play, and after failing to win a B1G tournament.

They were a sexy pick for  a lot of izzo lovers. I guess the term tournament favorite is arbitrary. I mean a lot of people thought they could make a deep run type of team.

Remember all the people saying like in the DET news or even MLive or ESPN how MSU always plays up for the tournament, regardless of how the season went. Lots had them in the sweet 16 or even ff.

A quick google and this is what the Freep said (after the regular season last year) of why  MSU should make the tournament and what they will do there:

It’s Michigan State. It’s Tom Izzo. The Spartans always seem to get in, and they always seem to make some noise when you least expect it.

And to clarify I'm not saying the Freep is newsworthy, only that it follows a lot of izzo fans.

a link for that.

And if they return, which they probably will, you are looking at:

Winston; Loyer

Langford; McQuade

Ahrens; Henry;

Goins; Bingham

Ward; Tillman

That is not a great team by any stretch but it is a comfortable tournament team.

And that is assuming that neither Bridges nor Jackson lose their damn mind and come back.

I disagree that is a comfortable tournament team. That is a semi-talented starting lineup with no depth other than freshmen. Izzo has an extremely shitty record of 5 Star talent contributing as freshmen, so I’m not sure what he’s going to do with 4 Star guys as freshmen. Harris and Bridges looked good as freshmen, Davis, JJJ, Appling, Payne, And Dawson all looked lost as freshmen. Ward, Cash, and Langford started as freshmen and played ok but not great. As a freshman, Tillman looked ok, but nothing special. When 2/5 of your starting lineup are awful, your top guy off the bench looks lost quite often (McQuaid), and you are relying on 3 true freshmen as backups when you have no idea how to coach freshmen, you are looking at the very real possibility that team doesn’t make the tourney. If the B10 is as awful as they were this year, that’s fewer opportunities for quality wins also

Is not a certain NCAA team. Freshman are so unpredictable. Winston would need to make a big step forward in ball control. Langford has regressed. Tillman does not seem to have the upside but showed utility. Ward doesn’t play D outside of the paint....if he returns which I think he will. A weak Big Ten may provide an assist but I see struggles next year for Sparty. I would bet they get in but they could certainly be a bubble team with a bad bounce here or there.

One thing that really upsets me is him say he has never run from anything in his life. Tom, you are running from the ESPN report and the FBI report. Just come out and say what you know. It’s the oldest adage in the world, the truth will set you free. I wish one of these coaches or assistants would just come out and blow this whole thing up by just telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Back in late January shortly after ESPN ran their investigative piece i TOLD everyone this would soon depart from the national stage because the local Detroit media had no interest in seeing their two sacred cows (Izzo & Dantonio) hurt in any way and would protect them at all cost.  These types of stories only have "legs" when local reporters take the time to really do some investigative journalism (stretchgate anyone) cause the national boys have new and more interesting fish to fry.

And now that the Detroit media is circling the protective wagons around one of their two chosen sons you can absolutely forget about anything happening to these two except for maybe fat contract extensions for their "excellent" work.

Board rules:

Rule #1 - If you predict something the board doesnt want to hear about (like losing at Iowa, recruiting this year being troubling, the fact that nothing's going to happen to Izzo or Dantonio, that the Detroit media will try and protect both coaches, ect) you will get immediate negative backlash and told you are wrong.

Rule #2 - If you turn out to be correct and remind the people who told you you were wrong initially that you predicted the unpleasant thing and it occurred exactly as you told people it would occur you will get exponentially more negative backlash.

Such is life.

This wasn't hard to predict and you were nowhere near the only one to predict that. You're just the only one coming back around trying to tell everybody how smart you are, which is really lame.

Your "Rule #1" is correct. Rule #2 is not. You're not being downvoted for being right. You're being downvoted for thinking it's necessary to tell everybody that you were right.

You're getting negged not because you said something people don't like, but because you keep throwing it in our faces.  I tend to agree with you - the local media will not keep any pressure on these two ass-clowns at MSU.  So, until the FBI comes with warrants and leads them out in handcuffs, they will continue to be employed by MSU.

But I have to say, it really gets old when anyone - not just you, ANYONE, continues to say 'I told you so'; 'I was right and you were wrong'; 'I said this'; 'I AM RIGHT!'...  You've made your point, let it go.  Please continue to give your thoughts, because a large amount of them seem to be spot on (if not delivered in a negative manner).  But stop telling people - in every thread - about how you're right.  Most people on here read everything and comprehend it all pretty well, and nobody likes someone that continually points to himself.

b.) if we're being serious, you appear to have self-esteem issues which cause you to post condescending things.  my experience in life is that those who tend to such characteristics, upon any kind of close examination, live a life at odds with the persona they portray.  i don't intend to be mean here, but just relaying life experiences gained over decades, and i really do enjoy people and getting to know them.  the people i've met from this blog have been great and i look forward to meeting more of them.

c.) as to mgrowold, i get that some might be tired of his 'i'm right on this issue' post but two things: first, i'm pretty low-key about such things.  if it bothered me i'd move on to the next post.  second, he's a tremendous michigan fan, offers insight and/or humor on a pretty frequent basis, and is otherwise a good dude.  i've not seen that from you.   you might be all of that and then some, but i guess i've missed it.

to keep people at a distance?  you're not serious.  no way.  you can't pretend to be mr. smart and put stuff out there like that.

life is for the living, every bit of it.  people are messy and funny and can hurt you and make you cry in laughter and in sorrow.  don't stand away from it, embrace it.  take a chance, have some fun, help somebody out or ask for help if/when you need it. but whatever you do, don't manufacture rules that make you feel superior, or prohibit you from putting yourself out there b/c of fear that someone will call you on your b.s. or realize that you aren't perfect.  besides, we already know that.

i reiterate, i don't intend this to be mean-spirited, just the opposite.  go be a dude.

as opposed to calling you names i chose to encourage you.  but your low self-image puts you in an immediate defense posture and an effort to churn out a condescending comments.  see my first post for details.

let me guess:  physically small/unassuming, not much of a jock, wife (husband?) not so great, friends too, job, eh, not what you want, other things too.  i point out these likely circumstances of your life not to embarrass you, but to focus on the false image you are trying to show - which, by the way, nobody believes.  to adopt your language,  the pressure is this:  maintain your lie and snark which provide no value, or try and be a real person.   your call.

You really don't get it. the fact that you're wildly wrong about everything you listed proves it. Do you think I behave like this all the time? of course not. I just have limited energy and have no desire to make friends here. This is far from uncommon. Your post seems a bit out of touch.

show us, superstar, and get it verified.  for better or for worse, i am known personally to a number of posters here and at least as large a number of lurkers.  my bet is that my hunch about you is dead-on accurate.

and lets hope you don't 'behave like this all time', the way you are when here is more than enough.

Curious how long you see Izzo and Dantonio at msu. My prediction is they both have three years or less coaching at msu. As ernie would say they will be "long gone".

You Only Live Twice

and a question of degrees.

Every story departs the national stage at some point.  New developments will cause the story to resurface occaisonally.  Aly Raisman recently desribed the conditions at the Olympic camp in particular and how it was the perfect environment for Nassar to hide in.

As far as "nothing" happening, that's true only if firing a coach is the only possible result.  Stuff is happening.  MSU students and faculty are among those watching and asking for institutional changes.  I don't even care so much what happens to Izzo and/or Dantonio.  The knowledge of the scrutiny they will be under, going forward, is enough to curtail certain of their prior activities and possibly affect recruiting.  Izzo won't be able to use bagmen to purchase another Bridges. Dantonio won't be able to put players on the field after they assault someone (and be sure to tell the player to talk with his mom).  The list goes on and on.  Of course some "stuff" will always happen but it won't be in the insulated cocoon they enjoyed in the past.

As far as local media, if you watch, there's not a week that goes by without a related story somewhere.  Most of these won't make the MGoBlog news cycle, they're still out there.

That's because he grew up in Iron Mountain. What a bitch. I mean really, how hard is it to truly dislike both Izzo and Dantonio. Whenever I hear one of them talk, all my mind keeps screaming is "bitch". LOL.
