OT: US Dept of Education Also Investigating MSU

Submitted by You Only Live Twice on

This appeared in multiple news outlets on the 26th - so readers can choose their preferred supplier.  I looked at several and there is little if any variation from the AP story.  Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced the opening of this latest Title IX investigation, to examine "systemic issues" with the University's handling of sexual assault cases.  MSU is now being investigated by the NCAA, the AG office, the FBI,  as well as the US Dept. of Education, which also has a team from FSA (Federal Student Aid) already on campus conducting an audit for possible Clery Act violations.  If, like me, you need a refresher on the Clery Act, you can read about it here  https://clerycenter.org/about-page/

I, too, cannot stand 97.1 for obvious reasons. I'd rather practice falling down than listen to Valenti.. and just about everyone on that station. They are all so mind-numbingly corny.

You mentioned that you listen to podcasts - IMHO podcasts are where it's at for sports coverage, too. There are numerous podcasts out there for any specific pro team, and any college program with a large to semi-large fan base.

Just for UofM sports I subscribe to MGoBlog, The Michigan Rant (Nick Baumgartner), and Attack Each Day: The Harbaugh's Podcast. There are more but those are my three go-to's.

I'll leave it to other members for recommendations on Podcasts that cover the Red Wings, Lions, etc... Just running a quick search, it looks like "Pride of Detroit - NFL Lions Podcast" does a weekly pod that average >1 hour.

Between all of these, there's a good 5-6 hours of weekly content for your commute. Hope this helps!

The past three days are the first I've listened to the radio in like 4 months, I'm just out of content (until this morning at least). Podcasts make me forget how much I enjoy tunes in the car too though, so I like to take a break.

Yeah, between MGoBlog and Attack Each Day I get my Michigan fill. I like the Bald Move guys for TV/Movie reviews. Get some Dave & Chuck the Freak and bits My Favorite Murder overhearing while my girlfriends cooks/cleans/gets ready. I need to give the WIIM guys a try, they do a local one and broad scope NHL podcast too. TBH I can't stand the content/community over at Pride of Detroit. I doubt I'd like their podcast.

Anyone know of any good podcasts that cover Lions, Pistons, and Tigers? I like to be in the know on all four sports, and it's hard to do that on a surface level with podcasts being specialized.

Agreed. I used to listen religiously in the old days with Bob Edwards. They did the political stuff but also lots of Americana, 15 to 20 minute features on virtually any subject. There were a lot of rumblings about government funding and I think what happened is they are now beholden to a handful of major donors who are basically mega-rich foundations which are dictating their editorial policy.

West Michigan isn't nearly as bad with Drew and Jim Costa on 96.1     ...Alright Big Drew can be annoying when he tries to be funny, but at least he's not such a homer for being a Sparty.  I enjoy Jim Costa in that he at least is always trying to be bring some level of an intelligent debate to the topics.

The Huge is an ass-clown but he's been laying into Sparty the last month so it's funny to see all their fans argue with him.

Just more platitudes from Mark. Freaking first time opening his mouth in a month and this is what he produces? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE MARK! What are you actively doing to be apart of the solution? How many more mothers have you had players talk to?

It's always interesting thinking about his time attending MSU.  He from, all accounts, is a pretty nice and calm and just generously conservative person,  and so it's hard to imagine him fitting in the crazy party douche-bag punk-ass culture of MSU.  But I guess when you're that good at football, I am sure they accepted him fine.

When I read DetNews or FREEP article, I didn't see the basketball/football programs mentioned, just Nassar.

I'm pretty sure the consensus opinion on this board and elsewhere is that the DOE and other agencies (ie. not MSU) will do a fair and just investigation into Nassar.  There shouldn't be any concern there.

I thought the belief was that the basketball/football programs would be spared any major investigation by those same agencies.

He raped several young women across many different MSU sports teams. They were reported to coaches and the athletic director and covered up. How Is that not related to the athletic department?

Edit: Ok I just re-read this and saw your join date. So either you are the biggest troll in history, or that was the single greatest use of sarcasm on record.

I’m sure if things became uncomfortable for MSU, Izzo would recommend his buddy Roy Williams strategy at UNC and just smartly declare MSU a fake university to side step trouble.

I really like the paper writing service, because they always do my tasks with high quality and quickly, which suits me very much. If you have any problems with completing assignments, you can always turn to real professionals in their field who will do all the work for you.
