That is because the local media gushed over those two and only spun golden shit for them.
This has blown open. There is no hiding it now. If ESPN's report is accurate MSU will be forced to say we accept institutionalizing the covering up of rapes or we don't.
January 26th, 2018 at 11:17 PM ^
The narrative has shifted and people are horrified. There is no way for STATE to control this narrative anymore. The stories are coming out and there are many people now at work or who will be at work to uncover what's been going on. Much easier to hide the truth when no one is looking for it or suspects the depths of the depravity.
Let Izzo and Dantanio protest with their innocence. Time will deliver the recknoning.
January 27th, 2018 at 7:22 AM ^
I think you are correct that MSU is going to have to bring in an outsider to get to the bottom of their institutional fail.
January 27th, 2018 at 12:09 AM ^
This will go beyond the inane NCAA. They are irrelevant.

The fact that the media grabbed on to this UPPED THE ANTE...As much as I dislike the Spartans, I always thought IZZO was generally a good guy and this isnt how i hoped he would go out. I liked it better beating him in his own barn by double digits...That being said I dont see any way he makes it thru this.Gotta keep the focus on the victims herem my best guess is now that it is out in the open the VICTIMS will have the strenght to come forward and that will be the undoing of MSU B-BALL and FOOTBALL for a few years!

Do you still believe that Izzo is a "good guy"?

Good. They will force the new AD to come in and fire their asses. They don't deserve to retire. This needs to be a part of their legacy.

Perles is no capacity to lead a major university or athletic department. He's 84 and reportedly declining in health.
If MSU is smart, and they've shown no ability thus far, they'll listen to their new PR firm and hire an unknown from outside the circle.
January 26th, 2018 at 11:41 PM ^
That would be the worst thing they could do. This has gone too national and even world wide now to try to clean this up from within. If they want this to quiet down as quick as possible they need to own up to it, apologize for it, clean house, and start the healing process. I wouldn't put it past them to keep making stupid decisions regarding this but firing both of those enablers would let the world know they are serious about getting their priorities in line.
January 26th, 2018 at 10:48 PM ^
Dantonio just seemed irritated he had to say anything

Yes, if Izzo covered up the Payne/Appling thing or anything else, his firing will be part of the healing process for the victims.

it was that moment when i knew izzo had sold his soul to the devil. i respected him before that point as being straight up and honest. not after that. he could have kicked appling and payne to the curb and replaced them the next year with new similar recruits and moved on. they were only freshmen after all and hadn't even played in a game yet when the incident happened.
and i am almost sure has paid big money for some of his recent recruits because he has no soul anymore.
January 27th, 2018 at 9:16 AM ^
if more victims come forward? If there has been a cover up there are probably a few. Just like in the Nassar case, once the "victim shaming" is over, others can come forward.

plus in that "emmert knew in 2010" article, it references 37 sexual assaults by athletes. i'm guessing most of those were by football players. not sure what the timeframe was but that was in 2010 before nassar blew up.
January 26th, 2018 at 10:48 PM ^
Izzo knows he's fucked for sure now, just working on his exit strategy.
MD is too arrogant, I believe he truly thinks he's going to get out of this unscathed.

"In my mind." What does that mean? That he doesn't want to leave? That if it were up to him he wouldn't leave? That he knows he has to leave? That he wants to live in a nice comfortable fantasy where he isn't accountable?
And after he sits and looks at everything what then? Seems he isn't clear at all about his future. Dantonio, in the other hand, has doubled down.

Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
The signs that might be omens say I'm going, going
I'm going to Carolina in my mind
It's with a holy host of others standing around me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it looks like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind...
....Well I'm already gone
I'm gone
Say nice things about me
I'm gone, suddenly gone
You've got to carry on without me
I'm gone, I'm gone
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Yeah I'm, Yes I'm going to Carolina in my mind

Thought Izzo handled that really well. But you can tell he looks really exhausted. I think he'll end up coaching a year or two more and move on.

You're correct in your statement. From his standpoint he probably did handle things as best as he could. Just can't help myself after listening to that delta bravo. Lizard brain / reactions taking over. Nothing really directed at you.

His entire career and reputation immolating. He tied himself to the MSU wagon, was all in on Simon and Hollis and...uh oh.
Not that I feel the least but bad for him. Hey Tom...shoulda taken the NBA gig when you had the chance.

FS1 has commentators talking about Izzo and his press conference. They just suggested that the lack of a president and AD now means that Izzo is the "leader" to help the campus deal with the current crisis. Umm, I don't think look to a guy who is potentially deeply implicated in the wrongdoings to help you navigate the process.

I would have said the same thing. But when have you ever heard of a sitting University President and Athletics Director, both well respected in their fields resign within 2 days. They're out because they know its bad.
Games changed, this is different. I don't think anyone survives this.
