How about just when Meyer retires? I don't care who they have lined up after that guy. Unless Saban decides to come out of retirement just for shits and gigs, whoever they hire after Meyer is an automatic downgrade.

It also assumes that Meyer would have called the same ultra-conservative game plans both years even if Michigan had a great QB and were racking up 40 points per game.  Just because they scored 31 last year does not mean they couldn't have taken some moderate additional risks and scored 42.

For some reason, fans always talk about hypotheticals in which every other team stays the same while their team improves.

That is a pretty bold statement considering all that Barrett accomplished in college, and it remains to be seen how good Haskins is. The kid is obviously talented, but that is a really small sample size. Even O'Korn looked awesome when he stepped in for the injured starter at Purdue.

Haskins threw a jump ball down the sideline that the receiver made a great play on, hit two simple crossing routes the led to huge YAC, and had one big run where the whole defense had their back to him. Again, he is talented and could end up being great, but don't put him in Heisman conversation based on a couple of plays in a relief appearance.

Sounds like Haskins did more in one quarter than our QB's did all season. Trying to minimize his performance doesn't do anyone any good. He picked on Watson and Metellus who were weak spots all year. Coming in cold and making all those plays made me sick.

Is a far superior passer than Barrett was. When JT was playing, all we had to do was defend the edges tough and we basically shut down their offense. It didn't matter how much speed they had on the outside because defenses knew that Barrett was unlikely to burn them deep.

Wasn't downplaying as much as I was putting it into perspective. To my point, in the Purdue game O'Korn came in cold and proceeded to complete 70% of his passes for 270 yards. Haskins completed 6/7 for 94 yards. While he looked impressive in his little playing time, those few plays make it seem like much more.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't we have a failed two point conversion a few years ago decide the game on the last play, didn't we go into overtime in their shit bowl stadium with the crowd against us the refs against us, and didn't we kick their asses most of this years game except we couldn't pass the ball with a third string QB. This isn't over till we say its over. was it over when the germans bomb Pearl Harbor? well its not over now. Fuck the Cooler Poopers, whos with me

I'm shocked. S-H-O-C-K-E-D. /s

I don't blame him one little bit for his decision.

Let's see.....go play for a team that competes for national championships every year, has won at least 12 games every year save one that Meyer has been there, or go play for a team that has been searching for its identity and some respectability for over a decade? A team that can't stop getting in its own way and can't seem to ever figure out how to finish. If I'm a neutral recruit with no prior loyalties, I know where I'm going and I wouldn't think twice about it either.

Have to start winning on the field to get these guys. Where would you go if you were not a biased fan. They are in the playoff hunt every year. It’s that simple.

It's more to it than that, and I think Harbaugh's recent hires shows he knows that his staff last year lacked the necessary recruiting chops. Never seen UM miss out on so many players since I've been following this. In fact if Michigan doesn't sign Otis Reese it will be the first time in 18 years that UM has failed to sign a composite top 100 recruit.

maybe so in particular to hutch. however, to say that every recruit top to bottom is underrated and the difference between Ohio state class and Michigan class is negligible, is not accurate. Michigan has a good class and good coaches, so ill take it. good enough for me. but Ohio state class is unreal, again.

And yet despite virtually no changes in the staff save for Wheatley and Fisch from 2016-2017, they somehow forgot how to recruit from consecutive top-10 classes?

I don't buy it.  Changes needed to be made, but I don't think pulling in an OC from Arkansas and a defensive line guy and a TE coach from local-ish schools was some massive play for recruiting.

No man it’s really that simple. You start winning. They will come. It’s an easy recruiting pitch right now for urban. Yup I’m undefeated against them. Do you want to play in the big ten championship 4/5 years and be a playoff contender, or go there and try to beat me. How has that worked out so far?

same thing that Ruckert kid did.  They both put Michigan and Alabama in their top 3 list when all along each kid was a silent commit to OSU ... all stagged by the OSU coaches to make it look like OSU won a big recrutiing battle against Alabama and Michigan.  Just another Meyer recruiting tactic.  Friday was never coming to Ann Arbor.  Yawn ...

This sucks because we've had 1 great DL recruit the past 2 years in Gary and Solomon. Building blocks one year apart. Friday could've been that guy after Solomon leaves to lead the DL but oh well.

How is this a huge fail byt the staff?

Not sure if you knew this but the recruits do have a say in where they want to go to school..

Michigan has argueably the top D line coach in Mattison and the same for CP as a recruiter.....you'd think that should be enough to sway the kid.....evidently not. Maybe Friday really wanted to go to OSU.

People constantly miss this. Michigan is a tough school, academically. Even placed on the athlete curve, Michigan is tougher than OSU in the classroom. Getting to the NFL is likely his goal. Why not cruise through the college experience to get there? Both will get him to the league. He’s taken by the path of least resistance

In the end I don't know if he wanted to play 3T.  If Rashan Gary couldn't convince him to come to Michigan, then maybe it was more about how he stacked up on our depth chart than anything.  We have some pretty solid tackle types on the roster currently.  This definitely hurts as Friday could have helped us depthwise right away, and worked his way into a major piece on the defense, but it might be a positive sign for what we have currently.
