Losses like this happen every year
Tonight was disappointing. We lacked effort, and the missed shots never stopped. It didn’t help that Nebraska shot over 50% either. But guess what… all is not lost.
Remember, this means nothing. March is what matters.
Additionally, there is a good team somewhere in there. We saw it against Purdue and MSU. It just wasn’t there tonight.
Many John Beilein teams that have done anything in March all have had games like this where we wonder what is happening, yet at the end of the year, play like a top 10 team and perform when it matters. It would’ve been nice to win the Big 10, but at the end of the day, the team should still make the tournament and then none of it matters.
Again, these types of games seem to be the norm with Beilein teams, but things always get better.
One more positive: At least the next game is against Rutgers!

Just say it!: Fire Beilein (2 i's) - obvious answer
Followed up by a Beilein appreciation thread

Not just to Beilein teams, every team. It is imposible to be sharp in every game of a 30+ game schedule. That was the third game in 6 days, with two being on the road. Nothing to see here.

You're blaming a 20-point loss to Nebraska on scheduling?

I'm agreeing with you... That game sucked for a lot of reasons. Being dog tired and ready to be done with it for a few days chief among them.

They are like 18 - 21 yrs old - why are they so tired? Aren't they use to playing like 8 AAU games a week?
January 19th, 2018 at 9:40 AM ^
There's a reason AAU ball isn't exactly known for defense.

you have never played/watched baseball.
Edit: Either you edited that, or I didn't read to the end.

It’s basketball. The level of physical exertion is less than every other major sport, except baseball.Never played, did you?

Every NBA fan can look at the schedule before the season and pencil in 6-7 probable schedule losses. Home-road back to back? Probable loss. 3rd game in 4 nights? Probable loss. That's what this was.
UM didn't front rim a huge percentage of their threes, give up driving lanes, and constantly get their open driving lanes cut off because they lost their touch or forgot fundamentals. They didn't have their legs, and that's because they had a road-home-road stretch over 6 days that basically hasn't been scheduled in the past.
And this is nothing equivalent to the tournament, which doesn't involve travel, doesn't involve a third game, and has both teams facing the same conditions.

Losing happens every year, sure. Losing by 20 to a team with 7 losses? I don't accept that.
Where's the guy who said we should name the hardwood after Beilein? What a bonehead.

Nebraska had this game circled on their calendar for the past year, and were fired up, while we were tired and flat. Their best game of the year vs our worst.
Oh well, rest up and move on.

They played well and with a lot of energy. We just couldn't do anything on offense, aside from Matthews. Don't think this game is representative of much other than that we aren't a B10 title caliber team and Wagner prefers big slow men rather than someone like Roby.

Happily we only play two more teams with a pulse on the road. Purdue might just hamblast us, and then our remaining road games are against a dire Northwestern team, a very bad version of Wisconsin, PSU, and Maryland.
