Confirmed position coaching changes?

Submitted by karpodiem on

In a different thread, someone posted they didn't know that Dan Enos is now on the staff for 2018 until today. Is this accurate?

What other staff changes are 'confirmed', or is Enos addition to the staff inaccurate? Sorry if this thread is deemed redundant, but this seems rather newsworthy and I wasn't able to locate a dedicated thread on this topic.

at minimum i'm hoping pep and frey are gone.

didn't we have the exact same issue with frey the last time?

would like to see a clean sweep with drevno in that mix.

EDIT: Relatively significant could be careful language for very significant.  doesn't want to get people shouting about wholesale house cleaning by over stating things???  i'm speculating obviously

I agree that John is a better coach. I believe Jim is a better coach for Michigan. Like it or not, Michigan is relevant 365 days a year in the news cycle. Jim knows Michigan better than anyone and he is just as crazy as our rabid fan base.

I'd like to see one guy calling the plays, one guy in control of the offense. No need to have 3 guys for one job. Don Brown does a phenomenal job spearheading the defense. The worst part is that I don't think it's completely unreasonable to think that Michigan is in a position where they could go out and secure a really good OC with the young perceived talent they have on the team and an awesome defense backing them up. The problem is that I don't foresee Harbaugh going out and making such a change. I'm sure that coach has a vision of how he wants this unit to run, and I hope he gets the chance to see it through this 2018 season. Preliminary results though, are showing that the current make-up of the offensive staff hasn't worked out at all here in 2017 (and the first day of 2018.) It's just so hard seeing a competent offense being the only missing part on an otherwise stout team.

Yeah and I thought Nuss was going to be awesome. Sorry but even coaching changes won’t give me confidence. How are the players supposed to develop if they are always spending time learning a new system? MSU didn’t fire anyone after their 3-9 shitshow.

I don't think learning a new system in an offseason is that big of a deal. Look what Brohm did at Purdue in one offseason. Also, our offense could remain relatively similar with smarter play calling and less substitutions and things would probably improve drastically.

Knew clearly the issues last year was bad attitudes from the players. He has a track record and trust his Coordinators. There is something wrong with the mix and structure of this staff and that falls completely on JH. A little worried about "relatively" because it's a vague descriptor. But I certainly appreciate UMBig11 providing snippets of info. I hope the sting of this loss runs deep as there is some truth to the fact that Michigan hasn't ''won" anything... yet. The 10 wins season are nice but titles and championships are expected. Something needs to be done about this staff (particularly on offense) because it's not working right now.

Well once dantonio was in the clear from the assault gate shit he could relax and coach again. Do you remember some of those games they lost? The Indiana game in particular, it was like he couldn’t coach all of the sudden. I don’t think the attitude of the players or anything else has changed. Curtis Blackwell took the fall and that was that.

Along with an offensive coordinator? Seems like on offensive line coach and one offensive coordinator would work better. Your wide receiver and running back coaches work with them in practice and on the sidelines if they see something specifically wrong. Between Pep, Drevno, Frey and Harbaugh, there are way too many cooks in the kitchen imo

I really hope we get someone better Enos. It's not like his offenses were amazing at Arkansas, I rather keep Drevno and hope he figures things out. Also I can't tell why the playcalling went to shit this year, is it Drevno or is it Pep? The o-line should be way better so thats on Drevno, but the shitty playcalling and just the design of some plays, I'm not sure.

I've been thinking exactly that same thing.  The math doesn't add up.  I guess I'm hoping replacing a new chief OC with a big name will help take care of multiple problems. Its also hard because I still trust Harbaugh and he should get the staff he wants.

Will not step down from a head coaching position until he needs to. The guy loves the spot light and I think he is generally happy at FAU, not saying he will be there forever but I see his next move being to a lower tiered power 5 school like a Kentucky, Kansas etc.. not saying he will go to those teams, they are just examples but I doubt he leaves a HC job to be another coordinator unless it’s his only option and right now it’s not..

What would really give this program a shot of adrenaline would be a big name OC to come in and shake things up on offense.  What about Lane Kiffin?  I'm not a huge fan of his either, but fact is the guy knows offense and is recognized nationally for his skills.  Whomever we choose, I'm with ya in that; Drevno, I love ya, you're a classy guy but I think we need to part ways.

Harbaugh is PO about this season and losing to teams above .500. Major changes will occur. The 2-headed OC will be gone. There will be one OC and a WR coach. His son may go back to just focus on TE and not RB. I think the changes will help.

He should be pissed, he is now thought of as the laughingstock of college and professional football coaching. It’s a joke! He’s the most publicly marketed coach in history, is always riding the edge on social media, and has not backed it up. I want him to succeed as much as anybody but it’s time to start winning on the field and not telling us about it. Again he should be pissed

Please coach your team. Please run the offense on YOUR team. Why would you carry one of your timeouts into the half when you could’ve used it to help YOUR team. When you see a tight end about to take a handoff on YOUR team, call a time out. When you see the secondary on YOUR cream get scorched multiple times, YOU can make some changes.

It’s frustrating to read articles about JH vein the most overrated coach but how can you argue about it anymore? HE is solely responsible for several key failures throughout the years, not always a coordinator.

Is it bad to think he should be running the offense?? Isn’t that in large part why he was hired?

The game announcer yesterday kept referring to the passion on USC sideline. We haven’t seen that in a couple of years. Peters looked like a lost kid yesterday but if we’re honest, JH looks the same on the sideline or in press conferences for at least 2 years now.

I love JH and the story, but HE needs to win some games.

What's frustrating is he's shown he can brilliantly call some games.  I was at the OSU game and a couple of their fans behind me were freaking out that M receivers were running free much of the game, just didn't have a QB to get the ball to them.  And then you have this game and the MSU game where you're wondering what the coaches were thinking.

Really, the offense didn't look prepped and ready to play for much of the first quarter.  Definitely looked like a motivational issue with the coaching staff.  Of course being down a couple OL didn't help... :-S

Jim needs to ditch the team play-calling approach.  Drevno needs to be a figurehead OC.  The best OC for Harbaugh's offense is Harbaugh.  He needs to go back to the identity he created this roster to have and implement it with crystal clarity.  Maybe his Dad will pull him aside and tell him this.
