Outback Bowl: What do you hope to see?

Submitted by mgoDAB on
In anticipation of the Outback Bowl in a few days, what are you looking forward to most or hope to see? A win, of course, would be great to see, putting us at 9-4 and giving us some confidence heading into the offseason. Some ideas: -Seeing Winovich, Hurst, Bush, and Don Brown having orange hair in support of ChadTough. -Brandon Peters getting the start. An impressive performance will set up what will be the most intense QB battle in recent memory. -Seniors going out with a bang. Hope to see lots of Panda time and belly rubs. For me, it would be Karan Higdon getting 71 rushing yards to be the first Michigan player since Denard in 2012 to reach 1,000 rushing yards in a season, and the first running back since Fitz Toussaint in 2011.

to the OSU game, but with Peters at the helm. I’d like to see no injuries. I’d like to see some of the younger DL get more run. I’d like to see Ruiz at center for a drive or two (prolly not gonna happen...but would be cool to see).

I want to see the pre-game talking heads talking about how USC is better than they look because they came out of the ESS-EEE-CEE and then our defense eats them alive

OFFENSE:

Progress on the offensive line, both on runs and passes.

Peters having by far his best performance of the year, with an offensive gameplan that gets the wide recievers much more involved (give DPJ the football!).

Good games from both Higdon and Evans against a decent SEC defensive front.

0 turnovers.

DEFENSE:

Complete domination up front.

Limit the big plays and 3rd down conversions.

2+ turnovers.

Less than 15 points surrendered.

MY PREDICTION:

Michigan: 34

South Carolina: 13

Peters breaks out

Higdon gets his 1000

Evans runs for 100+

DPJ strikes fear to all future CB next year

Gentry states his case for the lead TE for the Mackey Award next year.

Given the above statements, it will be a given what the OLine does

As for Defense, its simple.....

Pain, Destruction, total domination.  Leave no doubt that next year, this will be the #1 Defense in CFB

Progression from the OL. Open up some lanes for the RBs. Hoping to see pass protection look at least adequate. Would like to see Peters and his receivers look like they’re on the same page.

And the defense should maintain the status quo.

Our offensive line to execute in both the passing and running game as a prelude to 2018 competence and Peters to demonstrate an ability to throw the ball with accuracy and touch.

A win for Michigan by more than 20 points; no serious injuries; at least ten minutes more of time of possession; an orange Gatorade bath for all the coaches after the game; safe travel back to Ann Arbor.

“Clean sheet” (shutout) for the defense; limiting South Carolina to under 200 yards of total offense; winning the turnover battle; sacks by each member of the defensive line; no receptions by South Carolina’s wide receivers; a tackle for loss by Rashan Gary that knocks the South Carolina player’s helmet at least ten yards back, so THAT becomes the play that’s shown when the history of Michigan’s Outback Bowl highlights are shown.

Fewer than five penalties; no turnovers; no sacks or tackles for loss allowed by the offensive line; no punts, but if there are any, making sure that each of them pins South Carolina behind their own 20-yard line; scoring on every offensive possession; at least 20 pass completions; at least 400 yards of total offense; Karan Higdon breaking the 1,000 yard mark for the season; Ty Isaac having at least one 50-yard run; Khalid Hill scoring on a run and a pass reception; no missed field goals or extra points from Quinn Nordin; receptions for Ian Bunting, Drake Harris and Henry Poggi if they're all going to want going-away gifts; at least 20 yards gained on each jet sweep by Eddie McDoom; a kick return for a touchdown.

Ben Mason tackling a kick returner so hard that the ball is lofted high into the South Carolina end zone and caught by Ben Mason for a touchdown.

Yep. He had a rough career here but he gave it his all and his best. I hope Michigan is up huge and Harbaugh let's him finish it out. No sense in getting Peters hurt if Michigan is up big and it would be nice for O'Korn. At least he can know he's leaving Michigan with a winning record as their starting QB.

Want our defense to shut them down. Would like to see an efficient ball control offense. Zero turnovers and balanced attack. Something like 31-10 Michigan.

An O-line that puts the "pro" back in "pass pro," and Peters throwing for +200 yards on 15 completions for 20 attempts and three TDs. And a win of course.

That would be an exceptionally good way to begin 2018.

Improvement and a win. Seasom was a failure all around, least Harbaugh can do is send his seniors out with a win.

I’d like to see Peters make some difficult throws and show off the arm. I hope they win, but no one will care either way 2 hours after the game.

That is taking it too far. People care much longer than 2 hours. I for one like rewatching the bowl game a 100 times in the offseason when Michigan wins like the Citrus bowl Harbaugh’s first year.

First and foremost a win. Beyond that I'd like to see Peters play the whole game without missing a play due to injury, and our defense hold their offense to single digits.

I will be content with any outcome as long as I dont see a michigan lb getting torched on a wheel route or a michigan safety lining up in man on a slot. I understand that brown has his style of defense but you need the right personnel to play that way.

i want to see a field goal attempt where the ball bounces off the head of a referee and is caught by, I dunno,  Karen Higdons, and run in for the game winning TD.

Not too much to ask, I'd say.

Oh, and a vampire.

Watching, MSU, Ohio and Penn State ball out, its time for Harbaugh to start earning his salary starting monday. No more failures and excuses

But it probably will be close and we could be down 20-14 in the 4th. Brandon will lead us back to a game winning TD and win it 21-20.  SC will focus on stopping the run and if Brandon gets some time to throw we could win by a larger margin but I think he will be sacked a lot in this game.

A blowout. This isn’t much different than Florida 2015. Our team is more talented than 8-4 record suggests. South Carolina is overachieving.

Specifically, I mostly want to see our offense put up impressive numbers in passing and rushing. Watching games, you get the feel if an offense is taking control or just barely squeaking out first downs. I do not want to see us barely getting by but want to see that Oline move the Dline off the LOS more often than not, offense not making mental mistakes, executing plays well, and receivers making plays.

I’m not worried about the D. They may have a few breakdowns as SC’s QB is impressive, but my hope for 2018 is going to be seeing some semblance of offensive force.

In 2015, even though Rudock was leaving, the bowl game domination over a tough SEC defense left most UM fans feeling very hopeful for 2016. Outside of an Iowa game, 2016 did not disappoint. We were in every game and played like a top 5 team. 2017 has been disappointing, or at least meh, for most UM fans, so this bowl game will go a long way to getting us excited for 2018 or kind of cautious about any expectations.
