Apparently, playing 2 PGs is working. Beilein had Matthews attack the rim whenever Bamba sat. Very nice coaching job. And he gave more minutes to Livers and he responded.

After that OSU game I was not expecting us to beat both Texas and UCLA. I thought we'd be lucky to win one of two. Glad I was proven wrong. This team has the potential to be very good. We need Moe back though.

I was embarrassed for Shaka Smart during the inside the huddle clip.  He might as well just grab some pom poms.  There was no strategy, no teaching, no setting up plays.

but his teams at Texas are nothing like his teams at VCU.

He didn't go there and implement his system (fast-paced, pressing, getting lots of steals), he just got the best recruits he could, which have surprisingly been these big, lumbering shot blockers and post players (Bamba, Jarrett Allen) and it's like he doesn't know what to do with them. It's bizarre.

Surprised how his tenure there has gone.

Had a big block tonight and I said to myself, "Oh yeah, we got a seven footer, too!" We can win games with defense. I know Texas was without their leading scorer, but they were playing at home. You would think someone else would step up.

They were down their star player but the refs' whistle largely sang their song... it's a legit win. Everyone contributed...

Prayers for Wagner, glad Matthews is with us, big night for MAAR, n' Duncan sunk his free throws...

... and sweet, sweet vindication's the cherry on top. We didn't need him. At all.

We beat him.

This is a good team.

A really, really good team.

Happy New Year, y'all.

Here we come.

2018.

Kenpom offensive rating- 45

Kenpom defensive rating- 33

Since 2012 (2011 defense was slightly higher than offense) the closest the defense had been to the offense was 33 spots- in the year they missed the tournament.

I understand there are caveats, but aren't there always?

Matthews is wicked athletic.  You can see why he was a 5-star.

OK, we'll take 5-stars like Matthews and Shea Patterson any way we can get them.

Who is the quality basketball conference this year? Ik ACC is probably first but where to other conferences stand? Is it to early to determine this???

Alot of guys stepped up in this game.  Rahkman, Wagner, Robinson, Simpson, the list goes on.  I thought our boys showed a sifnificant toughness on the road last night.  Mobamba was a force underneath and we seemed to handle it just fine.  If we keep playing with this level of intensity, we're going to be right there in the mix for the top of the conference.  Heck I was even thinking that Beilein was more intense on the sideline as well.  Once again, great win guys!

But UT was without their leading scorer, missed a ton of puppies, and Mamba is terrible around the rim when not dunking. Shaka is now 37-38 in his stint at UT.
