Yeah, I'd expect A&M to have some good success under Jimbo. Looking forward to the annual battles with Alabama.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:02 PM ^
Lol they ain't beating Bama as long as Saban is there
December 1st, 2017 at 2:22 PM ^
Didn't Sumlin beat Saban in his first year there?
December 1st, 2017 at 2:31 PM ^
December 1st, 2017 at 2:41 PM ^
And Jimbo Fisher could never have a Heisman QB. /s
December 1st, 2017 at 3:08 PM ^
Good point..but that game was so fluky. It takes a lot more to beat Bama nowadays and Jimbo also lost this year to Saban (I know, his QB got injured but I don't think they were going to win regardless)
December 1st, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
And then Sumlin lost four straight against Saban by a combined score of 160-56 (and - honestly - it wasn't even that close).
The poster's point is fair: It's hard to beat Bama (obviously), and with the way Bama is structured now and for the years to come, everyone in the SEC as well as the country is looking up to them. I would hate to have to play them every year. They are a minor league NFL team at the moment.
December 1st, 2017 at 4:39 PM ^
Fisher isnt Sumlin. Fisher has had results already and will bring in great talent to A&M.
December 1st, 2017 at 4:38 PM ^
Delusional take. Let me know when you're willing to put up real money on that statement. Fisher will beat Saban multiple times.
December 1st, 2017 at 5:49 PM ^
Saban is fading into the sunset and so is Alabama. He wants into the playoffs for another loss. Go away old man, you're weird and a hypocritc slime.
December 3rd, 2017 at 9:37 AM ^
Well, one I never said they'd beat Bama.. and two as the comment below says Sumlin did in fact beat Bama. Nick Saban is not invincible and even if Fisher never beats him I'd still imagine those games would be good ones.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:31 PM ^
FSU will be just fine with Willie Taggart (presumably), but WOOBOY compare the trajectories of both Michigan and FSU between January 2, 2016 and December 1, 2017
December 1st, 2017 at 1:34 PM ^
Yeah man. This hasn't been a great year or anything but our program is stable, it wasn't totally embarrassing (we don't have to beat a minnow this week just to become bowl eligible), and we're set up well for the future.
FSU went from legit title contender to... I have no idea what they are now. Taggart would be an acceptable consolation prize, I guess.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:44 PM ^
FSU situation is a good way to put our season into context. Both teams suffered season ending injuries to their starting QBs due to poor OL play. We were able to handle it much, much better though. Things could have been worse but as a program we were better prepared to suffer that type of loss (twice).

December 1st, 2017 at 1:38 PM ^
What FSU has done in the last 5 years for 5-10 years of suck.
They won a title, and made the playoff. That stuff would maintain my happiness for a decade.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:56 PM ^
...yeaaaahh... you're right.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:39 PM ^
Football-wise, absolutely.
However, I am good trading a national championship for the blissful ignorance of knowing that our fanbase hasn't rallied behind a rapist QB. That's beside any of our original points but it's the internet and I can guide the conversation!

Sorry, read the actual documents. The chick changed her story about 5 times and as it turns out she had to make something up cuz her family didn't like her hooking up with people with more melanin. Jameis Winston is a moron, but he's not a rapist. Jimbo was right staying behind his player.
December 1st, 2017 at 5:52 PM ^
Rothlisberger, Winston who you talking about there are to many to keep track.

for the multiple years of suck from Carr through to Harbaugh?

works for me
December 2nd, 2017 at 2:54 AM ^
for Michigan. Just wait and see you doubters. In a couple of years Harbaugh will make you all very happy!
December 1st, 2017 at 3:10 PM ^
We make the playoffs last year if the officials call The Game properly. I know, close doesn't count, and yeah, we completely blew things in the Iowa game, but it isn't like we were miles and miles away or something.

FSU handles their coaching search. Just made things tougher for Tennessee, and Nebraska.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:35 PM ^
Frost to FSU seems like a stretch, but Frost to Oregon to replace Taggart after Taggart goes to FSU seems like a good move for everybody except Nebraska.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:52 PM ^
This will be a very interesting exercise in game theory over the coming days / weeks, etc.
It's interesting that with the entire Tenn debacle, the Nebraska search has been very quiet. Is it safe to assume Nebraska is putting all of their eggs in the Frost basket? If that's the case - and Taggart leaves for FSU - the race for Frost is going to really heat up!
December 1st, 2017 at 6:48 PM ^
but that they are also setting up a decent "plan b" as well. Maybe a third coach as a fallback option too. They may be waiting for the coaching carousel to slow down some before they put together their best offer for Frost.
Or least I think that would be the smartest approach.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:54 PM ^
I feel like Frost may take Oregon if he doesn't hear from Nebraska IMMEDIATELY follwoing the Championship game for UCF.
I may be in the minority here, but, I like Taggart > Jimbo for FSU. I like FSU, and I like Taggart being apart of the Harbaugh tree making them a stable ACC Program and hopefully taking Clemson down.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:04 PM ^
Frost? Hard to imagine they were just sitting back and waiting while schools like Florida were talking to candidates that might have included him.
December 1st, 2017 at 2:23 PM ^
a deal/talks may have been done behind closed doors. and remember, Frost still has a conferance championship game to play. I dont think he or anybody would want it public that he is taking Nebraska or any other job before the CCG. he may be a douche, just not that kind of douche.
December 1st, 2017 at 4:28 PM ^
They have talked but Frost's agent is doing 95% or more of the talking. He just checks with Frost to get his opinions and feelings on things.
December 1st, 2017 at 5:02 PM ^
I can't imagine that this isn't exactly what's happening, but what's most surprising is that there are essentially no real rumors about what's happening in the coaching search. That makes me think that Frost is a done deal (seriously, no rumors, though?) or Nebraska really hasn't reached out to him.
December 1st, 2017 at 5:32 PM ^
The only good reason for that is that Frost is their target and that he is interested. The question is whether they have an agreement.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:32 PM ^
Hard to overstate how astonishing this is. A&M has a good history, but there's no question that FSU's history is better given the sustained greatness built under Bowden plus Fisher's own national title a few years ago.
Matt Hinton pointed out that the only real analogy one can find for this is Johnny Majors fleeing Pitt for Tennessee. That's a looooong time ago to find something similar. A good move for A&M, obviously, but a disaster for FSU. And might be more than Fisher bargained for.
Also, LSU fans must be throwing themselves into the Mississippi River right now.
December 1st, 2017 at 1:44 PM ^
Is it really a disaster for FSU though? Fisher is obviously a good coach, but - by most accounts - he was a major pain in the ass for the AD and alum base at FSU. I'm not saying he isn't right in wanting upgrades to facilities, but - apparently - the way he went about lobbying for new facilities was pretty unprofessional (Note: I remember when Jameis Winston went to A2 before the draft to meet Harbaugh, and one of the most interesting comments he made was about the high qualify of our facilities. I had just kinda assumed FSU had world-class facilities, but it turns out they don't).
It'll be interesting to see where these respective programs are in a few years. While A&M got their home run hire, they play in the toughest division of the toughest conference in college football. Yes, B1G looks much improved, but we have a long ways to go in order to catch up to the SEC's title run of the last decade.
FSU - on the other hand - plays in a relatively easier conference, and - in my opinion - have a much better legacy / history than A&M. I have way more faith in them fielding a title contender than A&M in the near future.
Just my entirely arbitrary $0.02
December 1st, 2017 at 3:22 PM ^
yeah, fisher is a good coach but its not like saban or meyer just left. theyll do ok if they make smart transition and a sharp coach finds QB to trigger his system. lord knows theyre in great spot to attract DL, skill position talent, etc, like always.
i know many of the golden chiefs (intense FSU boosters) wanted fisher gone at this point, for whatever thats worth.
maybe facilities, admin, etc contributed to the decision, and maybe fisher also had personal reasons to look for an exit - but i know significant portions of the community wanted him out and weve all witnessed the influence of fans / donations.
taggart currently FSU choice #1 and 1a so itll be interesting to see what he does

Bielema to Arkansas is very similar.
December 1st, 2017 at 3:46 PM ^
with football as other things. As I noted the other day, the landscape of Florida recruiting has become MUCH more complicated with the emergence of two programs and the ongoing and forthcoming re-emergence of two other longstanding powers. Fisher had worn out his welcome with a surprising number of people in Tallahassee, including--reportedly--his players.
A&M, meanwhile, is also a program on the rise, with great promise and wealthy, rabid boosters. And--FWIW--I just noticed the TAMU runs 7th or 8th in the country in attendance, while FSU attendance has lagged, at 16th. That surprised me given FSU fans' reputation, but Fisher went 8-8 the last two years in the ACC.
I for one am excited at the prospect of Taggart here in Tallahassee. God knows, I have never rooted for FSU but I might start.
December 1st, 2017 at 5:10 PM ^
I might root for Taggart as a coach, but please, please, let him stay at Oregon. I cannot root for Florida State.
December 1st, 2017 at 4:53 PM ^
I don't find it astonishing at all. TAMU is a good job in the second best division in college football. It's possible Fisher doesn't care about history but more so cares about the present. It's possible he isn't happy right now after getting divorced and the public humiliation that came with it.
Florida State is a great job. Top 5. But Bowden had all that history there already. Why not win a championship elsewhere too and get a new start for more money in a place you're not humiliated? Why not become a legend there if possible by winning a title there as well?
TAMU= bigger $ all the way around. It sits in a talent rich area and right next to another in Louisiana that he has ties to. He will still have a Florida history as well so in effect it will just be expanding recruiting territory.
And let's be honest. Does it matter if it's Alabama or Clemson that you have to beat each year to get a title? I would argue the ACC is on the rise and the power in the SEC has shifted slightly as Georgia has become a bit better destination (on the surface anyway).
