Sam Webb Says Michigan now interested in Shea Patterson

Submitted by Tedbossman on
Michigan now interested, along with the schools out west. All compliance offices of interested suitors are trying to see if he can become immediately eligible. Webb also says some Ole Miss players have retained legal counsel in an effort for immediate eligibility, though he says he’s not sure if Patterson is among them. Why the change? IMO likely tied to Speights decision. *Title edit for clarity

Does he have the academic prowess to be accepted into UM? We are a cut above the mouth breathers when it comes to education. No way would they let an unqualified student into Michigan. /S I was being sarcastic but seriously, does he have the grades to get in?

I appreciate the difference of opinion, but i want to roll with what we have. We will never have a good QB if we take and start and a transfer every year and never have anQB take more than a half season of snaps.

the QB competition between Brandon and Dylan but the end result will be staring a young QB who probably make mistakes and cost us a game or two. Who ever wins will probably be the starter in 2019 and we will finally have a good to great QB. I'm sure the loser in this competition will transfer to find more playing time after the 2018 season.

to Harbaugh. Wilton probably asked Harbaugh if he was still considered the starter for 2018 and Harbaugh told him he would have to earn it against Brandon and Dylan. Wilton probably thought his chances were 50/50 or less and wants to find a team where he will be guaranteed to start. Now Harbaugh would like a 3rd QB with some experience and if he turns out to be much better QB on the team Harbuagh will play him as starter if he is eligible.

Come on man. The whole team knew Peters gave them the best chance to win and you could see it in there play. Speight knows that with a ever developing Peters and McCaffrey he did not stand much of a chance.

If Speight thought he was better than them, he would stay and win the starting job. I for one would like to see Michigan with a Tim Tebow type who wants to run over the defense and fight them all the way down the field. Just with a better arm and more talent.LOL.

I get the reasons but I don't want our current QBs get any ideas of transferring because they feel they're losing potential playing time. Yeah, yeah.... QB competition and all that, I know. End of the day these kids want a job in the pros and want as much exposure and playing time as possible. I'd almost hate to take Shea, have a QB transfer and then right back to a bad QB situation we're in now. Could be a slippery slope.

This is how it was in the 90s with RBs. If two top RBs wanted to come two years in a row, they would take both and move the other to safety if the second back was better than the first. This was back when all of the carries went to one player. Today it wouldn't be abnormal to take two players like that in consecutive years.

So there's some people who'd rather pass on a player who's proven on the field he's better than what we currently have because we don't want to hurt someone's feelings??

Don't even consider Greg Little from Ole Miss because it may hurt Nolan Ulizio's feelings. Don't take a second QB in Shane Morris' class because he's a guarantee to win some championships. Nothing is a guarantee so why not increase your odds of success by loading the roster with top talent.. ESPECIALLY at QB.

Okorn was a flyer when we had what looked to be zero good QBs on the roster when Harbaugh got hired. Alabama won a national title with transfer Jake Coker. You can develop the QBs you have and take transfers. We have 3 starts coming back at the most important position. Peters looks like he has potential, but some people need to realize he and McCaffery still haven’t done jack shit in college. I want good players. I want to win. I want to go to a game in fucking indy.

was much worse than I ever imgained in 2015.  Malzone and Gentry were 2015 recruits.  Malzone a hold over from Hoke and Gentry was best M could get in 30 days. Speight and Morris were holdovers and Harbaugh had to get two transfers (Okorn and Rudock).

1. Malzone - Future Transfer

2. Morris - Transfer

3. Okorn

4. Rudock - NFL

5. Gentry - TE

6. Speight  - Transfer

Of those 6 Rudock was money the second half of 2015.  Speight was solid for about 6 games in 2016. In 39 games we have had good to stellar QB play for maybe 12-15 games. It's amazing we are 28 and 10 in that span.  When you see it in front of you, it makes realize what a mountain Harbaugh had to climb with QB situation. The most IMPORTANT position on field was the worst for depth and talent.

Now, with Peters, McCaffrey, Milton and so on, I will start to judge at this point. I think Harbaugh has done as much as anyone could with what he had to work with. He did his best to make a dire situation serviceable. If adding more depth with Patterson is an option, do it. If somone doesn't like competition then I am a bit worried having that QB leading M in front of a 110,000 strong.

As a teammate: obviously no idea These are the "recruiting" decisions that coaches face all the time. Harbaugh seems to weigh both and even over emphasize the latter, so I doubt Shea will get a chance at UM if JH believes he would cause locker room issues.

Agreed. Move really only makes sense if Patterson is eligible immediately. If he’s not, I’d prefer Michigan stick with who they have. Peters showed plenty of promise in his time this year, McCaffrey seems to be getting some hype from within the program, Milton is high upside and enrolling early. But, if Harbaugh wants to bring in Patterson, then I’m all for it.

I am ambivalent on this move. Quite honestly, I think Peters is good enough to be the guy based on his decision making abilities so far but I wouldn't be shocked if Dylan had the ability to win the job. Regardless, I'd like to see a Spring QB competition and then go into the summer with a known signal caller. Bringing Shea in would split reps between the three of them, and could extend the competition into August. IF he is significantly better than what we have this makes, but otherwise you could be losing valuable reps.

He would be the highest ranked QB recruit ever on Michigans roster. And some of you don’t think we take him? It’s competition. We take him if he’s a good kid and has the character to lead the team. He’s not a take if he’s a prima donna.

Not sure isf anyone posted this yet, but Shea Patterson wanted to play for Michigan "had dreams of playing in the Big House." I think I read somewhere that Hoke didn't recruit him...I am sure this is all adding to the transfer rumors.
