By 2020, every single one of those schools will be pissing their pants about having US on the schedule.
Future is BRIGHT.

General Mattis DOD interview.
Reporter: "Who keeps you up at night?"
Gen Mattis: "Nobody. I keep other people up at night"
I could see Coach Harbaugh answering the same way about this schedule.

We complain when we have crap OOC games, now we complain when we have good ones.
And, even worse now, we complain about our conference slate?
Who knows where those teams will be in 3 years?
November 22nd, 2017 at 4:40 PM ^
don't worry

Having VT, PSU, MSU, and Wisconsin in back to back weeks is gonna be brutal. But the good thing is that they're all early in the season so it should be easy to come back even if we do get a loss there.
November 22nd, 2017 at 11:51 AM ^
Idk if you noticed, but we also start on the road @Washington. They're always going to be good under Petersen.
RIP.
That's 5 hard games out of the first 6 on the schedule!
November 22nd, 2017 at 1:50 PM ^
and Sparty is rebuilding? Franklin may lose his good assistants and have a crappy QB.
November 22nd, 2017 at 6:51 PM ^
slash RB.
Make no mistake that PSU with Barkley and OSU with Ezekiel Elliot, were both players (of a calibre that typically only Alabama gets) that by themselves elevated their teams to a whole other level.
I've really have been waiting for us to get a similar game-breaking player (nearly every power 5 team gets one from time to time--it's just statistically going to happen), as every team is due for one every few years (5-10), or so.
The only variation would have been if RichRod would have stayed and we had Gardner at QB and Denard at RB. That would have been a formidable backfield.

Remember all the times he caught screen passes in space? Me neither
November 22nd, 2017 at 1:34 PM ^
trying to get out of the Washington series for months. Not sure if they have made any progress or not, but at least they realize that there is a problem.
November 22nd, 2017 at 1:40 PM ^
This is 3 years from now lol
November 22nd, 2017 at 11:49 AM ^
That is nice. Much better than Wisconsin. Still would rather have Mercer or the Citadel. In speaking of Wisconsin, why do we play them so many years in a row?
November 22nd, 2017 at 12:21 PM ^
Big 10 won't say, but the Delaney conspiracy is real.

Right so 15-0 and no one can doubt our strength of schedule? That's fine by me
November 22nd, 2017 at 12:46 PM ^
can't post a zillion comments saying "but we only play shitty teams, waaaaa..."

Notre Dame, probably.

I'd rather have this tough schedule and end up with a two loss season and a shot at the playoff than have a cupcake schedule. I'm probably in the minority, but i like the tough schedule.
However, yes, that is an exceptionally difficult road. You go through that season undefeated or with 1 loss and you are looking National Championship in the eye.
November 22nd, 2017 at 12:25 PM ^
I look at that schedule and think how exciting it could be as a fan to watch that many good games. I know, it can hurt CFP chances but that's a crapshoot anyway. If we are good enough, we'll get in, and if not at least those are all big games you can get excited about week in and week out.
November 22nd, 2017 at 1:11 PM ^
Hopefully that is enough time to build some OL depth and then yes, bring it on.
November 22nd, 2017 at 4:24 PM ^
over losses. That's been the thing they continue to be consistent about. So I actually like having two tough non-conference opponents for more opportunities to rack up good wins. And it's just way more fun than playing body bag games.
I really hope we keep that Washington game. I'd go to Seattle for it.
November 22nd, 2017 at 11:44 AM ^
Honestly not sure how Washington, VT, MSU, PSU, and Wisconsin all look in 2020.
November 22nd, 2017 at 12:56 PM ^
pretty safe to bet that they won't be like playing Rutgers.
November 22nd, 2017 at 11:44 AM ^
these threads are stupid. For all we know va tech and psu will be in a slump. stop projecting the future.
November 22nd, 2017 at 7:30 PM ^
"Predicting is hard, especially about the future."
November 22nd, 2017 at 11:44 AM ^
No.
The schedule is brutal for those teams that have us on theirs.
THE MACHINE will be fully operational by the time. Greatness will be achieved.
November 22nd, 2017 at 12:27 PM ^
Now witness the power of this fully armed and operational battle station!
November 22nd, 2017 at 12:57 PM ^
but will the battle station have a decent o-line?

I heard from a ND QB that they are working on a lifetime deal.
Or were they making a Lifetime movie...

Fleck is a strong candidate for the Tennessee job after this season. That's the rumor that hasn't gain traction yet
November 22nd, 2017 at 11:47 AM ^
in 2020 will our line still suck bc Newsome got hurt and Hoke didnt recruit anyone or is it the next decade that that wont be an excuse?
