Harbaugh rips poor facilities at Purdue
Harbaugh -- will do for visiting team "standard of care for the visitors" on multiple levels.....this is coming off Purdue game...
— angelique (@chengelis) September 25, 2017
Harbaugh "gamesmanship that is not sportsmanlike....locker rooms too small" no ac, no heat

Harbaugh -- "gamesmanship should cease at the line of health and safety for the players"
— angelique (@chengelis) September 25, 2017
Harbaugh says it's not just Purdue, but he's absolutely blasting Ross Ade facilities. Said training table looked like it was from 1920s.
— Matt Pargoff (@MaizeBlueNews) September 25, 2017Harbaugh wishes he had taken a picture of injury table at Purdue.

"I mean, it looked it was from the '20s," had rips/tearsUrban Meyer agrees that that "Absolutely" there should be a standard for visiting locker room facilities etc. for programs in Big Ten.

Purdue owes @CoachJim4UM an apology. This is embarrassing.

And then you have this......
ICYMI, ESPN canned McMurphy during their summer purge.

Man, these idiots sure like to take apples and compare them to oranges. Call me when a player ends up in the hospital because his team didn't know the other team's 2-deep.

I believe the health and safety of a few people at nj.com was at risk before we relseased a roster.

I dunno... can you die from apoplexy?
September 25th, 2017 at 6:53 PM ^
Clearly, you are trivializing the health risks that a person living in New Jersey lives with during football season when watching the Rutgers football product on the field.

I agree that this is a dumb take but who ended up in the hospital over the heat? Or are you talking about Wilton? Do they not have enough medical equipment there?
September 25th, 2017 at 1:20 PM ^
He had to leave the stadium site because they couldn't do x-rays there.
September 25th, 2017 at 3:56 PM ^
You cant just plop an xray machine anywhere. You need shielding and a room designed for it. Also, with emerging technologies and improved imaging, why would it make sense for a university without a med school to be investing in this. Better to just send him offsite. Anyways, they said it was a soft-tissue thing so he probably got an MRI to evaluate that which is even more of a pain to install.
Also, TCF Bank Stadium doesnt have an x-ray either and that was brand new in 2009.

Just to play devil's advocate and I do agree with you but they aren't always an option for certain types of images. Most injuries from football games, probably so.

Speaking of facilities, isn't Purdue a big ten team? Shouldn't they be playing in a college-football-sized stadium?

You should know what you're talking about, if you're going to talk.

$40 Million+ in television revenue for being in the B1G it's not unrealistic to expect you to hold the standard of at least midlevel B1G teams. Not like they're playing at Akron or Western Illinois.
September 25th, 2017 at 5:49 PM ^
I have now upvoted you twice in like 24 hours. Say something objectionable please. I feel icky.

September 25th, 2017 at 1:25 PM ^
he also mentioned that Wilton had to be taken to a facility in a van to get the x-ray and then said something about not having a brace for him... assuming that he was talking about a neck brace.
September 25th, 2017 at 2:01 PM ^
More concerning is the lack of a neck brace. There should be certain requirements as to what medical equipment needs to be available at the game regardless of where it is played. If that includes an X-ray machine, then so be it. There is at least one hospital in Lafayette or West Lafayette, so that piece definitely exists.
The AC issue is very problematic as that is no small thing when you have the type of heat that was present last Saturday. The B1G needs to deal with this problem and fast.
September 25th, 2017 at 6:52 PM ^
I was screaming at the TV that they didn't put a neck brace on him. Also, they should stop letting guys walk off as a show of toughness.
September 25th, 2017 at 1:30 PM ^
No one was overtly harmed by the lack of AC, but I think I recall that Harbaugh sent some guys to the bus for AC during halftime to help them cool off?
September 25th, 2017 at 1:43 PM ^
It's not such a stretch to think that Kekoa Crawford's leg cramps were related to the locker room conditions. Obviously, the heat on the field matters a lot more. But losing sweat as you sit in a sweltering room at halftime* isn't going to make you less likely to cramp up.
*I imagine that Crawford was one of the guys sitting on air conditioned bus at halftime, but general point stands: exposing players to excess heat can have real impacts on player health.
September 25th, 2017 at 5:50 PM ^
But I read that Harbaugh had the team go out to the bus at halftime.
September 25th, 2017 at 1:43 PM ^
How could the Purdue AD know that no one would be harmed due to heatstroke from a lack of AC on a day where the field measured 101 degrees.
September 25th, 2017 at 8:33 PM ^
Evidently Michigan did a walk through of the facilities on July 18th and made no complaints. Moreover, they were given a vistors handbook which stated in bold letters that there was no AC available in the visitor's locker room. Additionally, the handbook stated that alternate facilities with AC could be made available if the visiting team wished to utilize them.
September 25th, 2017 at 10:41 PM ^
And this is where the problem is. If Michigan knew, some of this is on game ops/Schembechler Hall.
That being said, Purdue is sitll significantly on the hook for having a Bear Bryant-at-A&M Junction Boys locker room in 2017. At a basic level, player safety trumps all, especially if you're so aware of the safety issues that you PUT THEM IN THE VISITORS' HANDBOOK LIKE THIS.
September 26th, 2017 at 12:17 AM ^
"Well, Coach, there's a dorm lounge you can use that's got A/C. There'll probably be some students in there watching TV and it's a couple of miles up the hill on the other side of campus, but if you and your boys want to run over there during halftime just let us know."
September 26th, 2017 at 10:37 AM ^
How would anyone know on July 18th that on September 23rd West Lafayette IN was going to experience 101 degree record heat??
September 26th, 2017 at 2:03 PM ^
Farmer's Almanack.
September 25th, 2017 at 4:06 PM ^
Speight had to go off-site for an X-Ray and the starters had to sit on the bus at halftime because of the heat. So yes, because Michigan adapted quickly nobody got hurt. Still doesn't excuse Purdue for having crappy facilities.
September 25th, 2017 at 5:31 PM ^
So ignore health hazards until someone actually suffers injury because of them? Aiya. (It's onomatopoeic.)

Yeah let's wait until somebody actually dies before we take any drastic actions.
