When is the absolute last day the networks have to decide for the msu game start time?

That a MSU victory this weekend and a UM victory guarantees a night game. If ND wins, things could change. OSU and Maryland is looking better than previously expected.

If it's going to be a night game I believe it has to be announced 12 days ahead of time, so Monday the 25th is the earliest we'll know.  Latest we'll know is Sunday, October 1st.

1. Yes there will be LOTS of Juggallos in attendance.

2. Yes they will be drunk, beligerent and rude to Michigan fans.

But Jesus people have any of you been to a Michigan/MSU game BEFORE 2008?  Cause if you have you'd rememer the following things are also true when we play those assholes

3. Michigan will win

4. State fans will leave early and go home.

I hope we play at night so the whole country can watch what happens.

You know, that's true in my experiences pre-2008 when we played them at home as well. Actually, I think that most of the MSU fans were gone by halftime in the 48-3 game about fifteen years ago. The murky, misty, cold day that it was sort of fit the mood of the MSU crowd that day too. Aside from a couple Spartan faithful who were beyond trashed in my section (one of which a friend and I helped out of the stadium in fact), I can't remember any of them hanging around.

The 7:30 start (rather than 8) is a tip-off ABC's prime-time game will likely be B1G as opposed to ACC or some other conference.

Wisconsin @ Nebraska has a TBD start time and was likely the front-runner for the spot.  That's more questionable now given Nebraska's rough start.

The 3 other B1G games that are TBD as regards a start time are Charleson Southern @ Indiana, MSU @ Michigan, and Minnesota @ Purdue.

Draw your own conclusions - but 7:30 looks fairly possible.

per their TV contract - there will be 9 prime-time B1G games a year split between FS1 and FOX.

5 or 6 games have already been accounted for: (1 to 5) Washington @ Rutgers, Ohio @ Purdue, Nebraska @ Illinois on a Friday in 10 days, Notre Dame @ Michigan State, B1G Championship game.  (6) Purdue vs. Louisville might count against the total - harder to tell given it was a neutral-site game.

So they still have 3-4 more prime-time games to schedule.  Slotting a B1G game at 8 isn't a bad idea given, as you said, a weak Pac-12/Big XII schedule that week.

I work with a person who is a big-time donor for the Athetic Department.  This person is not an "insider," but is a part of some circles with some folks that may be well-connected.  The word within those circles is that it will be a night game.

I'm expecting a night game for all the reasons listed above as well as the new TV contracts.  Starting this season, we have to host 3 night games over the next 2 seasons.  I highly doubt all 3 would come in one season next year.  Thus, we have either MSU or MN as night game options.  Seems pretty obvious to do it vs MSU in early October than against MN in early November.

I've been told by the Athletic department that they have been told by TV... "no decision has been made, but prepare for a night game."

The athletic deparment is preparing for it to be a night game.

I bought my tickets half expecting a night game. 7:00pm would be great for a kickoff time, IMO. I know it's not a popular opinion around here that MSU game be a night game but I personally am hoping for it.

I sure am, got the tickets months and months ago, didn't give the possibility of a night game a thought. They're amazing, one of my favorites, but It's going to be hard to pay attention if I'm sitting there wondering what's happening at the stadium!

C’mon night game! I just don’t understand the problem with a night game. Night games happen all the time in other sports / levels. This is a Saturday. You have nothing to do the next day, and, even if you do, would you never go to a SNF or MNF game of your favorite NFL team?? Would you never go to a late playoff game? Just take a red bull / drink some coffee the next day and enjoy the national attention and spotlight on the game!
