So WE gonna have some growing-up to do, like real fast, to beat a deep veteran team from Cbus.
"considering the fact that we outplayed them last year in the Shoe, I think we can do it."

"I think this is finally the year we beat OSU."
I'll believe it when I see it. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard that over the last 13 years I'd be a rich man. And no, the interim game doesn't count.

I thought you were 'all for being positive.'
Maybe not.
August 25th, 2017 at 2:24 PM ^
LOL I can't wait to see UM beat PSU again.
August 25th, 2017 at 2:37 PM ^
This is an interesting kind of positive -
"I am all for being positive, just not about this team" - that's sort of how it reads.
OR...it could that for you to be positive a higher bar is required, which makes the whole idea of being positive seem like a rare experience.

If I'm going to make playoffs predictions that will inevitably be wrong, I might as well go full bore and predict a lineup that guarantees Michigan the championship.
August 25th, 2017 at 1:48 PM ^
would Rutgers making the playoff be the greatest feat in cfb history?

This obviously isn't worthy of a new thread, so I'll just put it here. HERE is a video interview with Zordich talking about the secondary. At the 40 second mark, Oliver Martin looks pretty good running a deep route, but didn't make the catch due to an underthrown ball.

Do you think a one loss Wisconsin team (loss to us) can make the playoffs if they win the big ten title? Their schedule is so easy that they have a legit shot.
August 25th, 2017 at 7:05 PM ^
Any one-loss B1G champ has a legit shot. Probably more than legit, closer to a lock.

I'm not a believer in USC.

The Big XII championship game could come back to bite the conference. If OU & OkSt have to play each other twice and split, and if each lose 1 other game for a 2-loss season, then the Big XII just eliminated itself by adding the conference title game.

When picking the 4 playoff teams, the first question is which conference will be left out? Seems like majority sentiment is that it's the Big XII. One of these years there will be 2 teams from the same conference, which would leave out 2 conferences.
Of course, there's probably 1, maybe 2, surprise winners in conference title games each year that may open a position for someone else. That we can't predict 3 months out.
Does the Alabama/FSU loser have to win-out to make it?
On second thought...let's just enjoy the season, see how it plays out, and have this discussion again in November.

The usual preseason shot-in-the-dark exercise. I can say that Herbie's predicted playoff (Bama, FSU, USC, and OSU) is pretty close to my worst nightmare of teams I don't want to do well. You know it's a problem when you're forced to root for USC because they're the best option.
But that's football going chalk, which to this point rarely occurs.
I'm going to go out on a limb. I think Michigan suffers 2 or 3 losses this year, but I think chaos clips the B1G and no team gets into the playoff. The Big 12 breaks through. Bama, Oklahoma, USC, and I guess FSU cause everyone says they should win the ACC.
August 25th, 2017 at 3:41 PM ^
I hear you on the nightmarishness, but I'm pretty numb to Alabama success right now. Frankly, if they won every NC from now until (whenever) Michigan wins its next, I sincerely anticipate I wouldn't care. Especially if that status quo (1) prevented a new nightmare (like OSU winning again), (2) removed Meyer from the same stratum as Saban and (3) meant the Michigan break-through was that much more of a national story.
