I am inching my way over to the McGregor camp everytime Floyd opens his mouth. In his press conference he pulled out a check from the 2015 Pacqiou fight.......But at the same time is telling the IRS he cant pay his tax bill until he gets paid from this fight.

I hope for Floyds sake that the check doesn't "void after 90 days" /s

Mayweather is a piece of shit of a human being. Having said that, he either dances and hugs his way to a 12 round snooze fest of a unanimous decision, or MacGregor does something incredibly stupid (enough to make Mike Tyson jealous) and gets DQ'd by Round 5.

McGregor winning would rank as one of the biggest upsets in sports history.  I liked the idea of changing the rules to MMA after 8 rounds, essentially forcing Mayweather to box (he won't).

But those aren't the rules.  Mayweather will dance around and land jabs until he wins by unanimous decision.  McGregor should just kick him in the 12th and DQ.  Would be worth it to see Mayweather go down.

Floyd said he will kick ass in the ring or octagon,,,,,, yeah right. Connor would destroy him in the octagon, and Floyd knows it.
I think after the boxing match, he should give Connor his shot in the octagon!!!

I'm cheering for McGregor, I just find the dude entertaining as hell.  I'm expecting a standard Floyd win - 12 rounds of "land enough shots to get ahead on points then run away and dance around to preserve the W".

If you want to pick the winner, answer this question: does a re-match happen (and everyone gets paid, again) if Maywether wins? If McGregor wins?

The problem with that is given that McGregor is an amateur boxer and Floyd is the finest defensive fighter maybe ever, it would be almost impossible for Floyd to throw the fight without it being obvious. Plus, I think Floyd cares way too much about that zero on his record to throw a fight for another payday.

If MW were to lose, they could easily claim it was due to old age and lack of conditioning. The dude has been in retirement since 2015 IIRC. If Mcgregor lands a good punch in the first few rounds and MW doesn't get up, it wouldn't be that crazy. It would be along the same lines of the Pats winning the most recent superbowl after halftime. Crazy things happen in sports. If I were MW, I would definitely consider throwing the match in order to get even more money out f a rematch. If MW dominates the match like expected, a rematch would not generate nearly as much revenue. Idon't think MW would ever throw a match due to his pride, but he might like money more than he likeshis image.

Honestly, I think that this situation is extremely doubtful, but when you look at it from MW's perspective, it makes a lot of sense financially.

Even with the caveat of being younger, Floyd dominated Marquez after a similar two-year layoff. I really think people are underestimating the fact that McGregor is a complete novice. I'd give some credence to age catching up to Mayweather if he wasn't fighting an amateur. Crazy things don't happen all the time, that's why they're called crazy things. This wouldn't be Pats/Falcons, which was an explainable disaster of clock management and poor coaching. This would be a fluke of unseen proportions.

would be a better fight. I hate Mayweather because he is a scumbag that beats women, but he's never lost a pro fight against other professional boxers. He's sparred against better boxers than McGregor on a regular basis.

If McGregor was a great boxer, he'd be a boxer. You know why? Because he'd make a shitload more money. This fight is a circus and I can't believe people are going to waste $100 on the PPV.

This does not even qualify as being called a "fight". Sideshow is worse than Muhammad Ali’s risible fight with the Japanese pro wrestler Antonio Inoki in 1976, widely regarded as the most embarrassing moment of the Greatest’s career.

That'd make it worth watching. I just don't see the appeal of this match. This is like watching a one-on-one basketball game with Michael Jordan playing Wayne Gretzky. Mayweather needs money to pay his taxes and McGregor is probably making more money off of this than any other match he's fought. Win-win for them, but I don't see it for the fans. I miss the the days of Holyfield, Bowe, and Lewis among other boxing greats. Hell, I'd take a Butterbean fight. Edit: Watched the press conference with Mayweather Sr. and McGregor going back and forth. It was fun. I'm not paying $100 to watch this, but it d be a fun random fight to watch knowing it'll probably be a disaster once it starts.

I checked out the last 5 WBC heavyweight champs:

They were:

Hashim Rahman

Samuel Peter

Vitali Klitschko

Bermane Stiverne

Deontay Wilder

Compare that to 25 years ago, when the previous 5 heavyweight champs up to that point were:

Trevor Berbick

Mike Tyson

Buster Douglas

Evander Holyfield

Riddick Bowe

A couple of things...

1) Name recognition is admitedly higher on the list from 25 years ago, but that mainly has to do with boxing being more popular and embedded in the mainstream sports culture. Of those listed from 25 years ago, only Tyson and perhaps Holyfield (generously) would be considered elite heavyweight boxers.

2) The Klitshko brothers were great heavyweight champions (some of the most dominant ever) and don't get near the recognition they deserve (perhaps because people find them boring, perhaps because they are Ukranian, perhaps because...I don't know)

3) WBC champions is perhaps not the right metric to judge the talent in the sport today. Deontay Wilder is a good heavyweight but probably the 3rd or 4th best heavyweight fighting right now (definitely behind Fury, Joshua and proabably just above W. Klistscho)

Just because a sport drops in popularity does not mean that the level of talent is falling (see MLB)

Edit: I see that your point was boxing has fallen far based on WBC champs

Boxing, as a sport, is dead. Don't know what caused it to go that route because it was a different story 25-30 years ago, but people largely just don't care about it anymore.

Once Mayweather retires for good, I think the sport will fall even further into the abyss. I think he's one of the last truly world-renowned boxers. The last "big personality" anyway.

I didn't. Again, I'm one of the many who consider boxing, as a sport, to be dead. It's not interesting to me at all.

I've always wondered, though, if boxing has faded due to the lack of personalities in the ring. Ali, Frazier, Tyson, Lewis, Foreman, Holyfield, these were all guys who had big personalities. They also fought in a much tougher era. Whether you paid attention to boxing or not, you knew who these guys were. Or at least knew of them. Gone too is the era of big time, loud-mouth promoters like Don King.

Now you've got Mayweather, Pacquiao, and a bunch of nobodies (nobodies to your average sport viewer). I don't think the average person knows anyone besides these two. Hard to remain relevant when no one aside from the die-hards knows who your fighters are.

I don't really care and won't be watching but it would be nice to see Mayweather get knocked the fu%$ out.

aren't all checks void after like a year of not being cashed?

Also, I'm rooting for McGregor but he will never win unless he gets crazy lucky.

I don't really have a horse in this race, because I don't watch either boxing or UFC. But if I had to pick someone, I'd rather see McGregor win. By all accounts, Mayweather sounds like a piece of shit human being and an egotistical asshole. Apparently this is Floyd Mayweather's world and we're lucky to be living in it. I know McGregor is a big shit-talker too, but Mayweather's arrogance is on another level. The guy likes to remind the whole world that he has a lot of money and you don't.

That being said, I think Mayweather wins. McGregor is more or less fighting with one hand tied behind his back. Many of the moves or techniques that make him so dominant in UFC will get him disqualified in boxing. So his strategy is going to be severely limited in the ring. Also don't know if he'll have the stamina to last 12 rounds when I believe UFC only goes to 5.

If Mayweather was stepping into the cage, I'd take McGregor easily. But this is boxing, and you have to give the advantage to the guy who's been playing by those set of rules his whole career. Either way, all I know for sure is that I won't be wasting $100 to watch it.

As much as I hate to say it, Floyd will win. McGregor is a fighter and has zero idea how frustrated Mayweather will make him, by boxing. He will make this fight a boring one and win while he does, just like his last fight and the fight before that.

I don't think McGregor will win but I'm pulling for him. In being captain obvious, we all know if this was in the octogon, Mayweather would get destroyed!

a random haymaker thrown buy McGregor connect and KO Mayweather ..... but Money May is by far the best boxer around and one of the best all time (top 5 easy).  Money May wins 9 rounds to 3.  Like Pacquiao did lol.  Except the judges will actually rule in favor of the guy who won.

Every time McGregor does this....

Mayweather is gonna punch him in the face.

In 24 of Mayweather's 49 victories, he has fought 10 or 12 round decisions, for 30 to 36 minutes of action.

In 2 of McGregor's 21 victories, he fought to 5- and 3-round decisions, for 25 and 15 minutes of action, respectively. In none of his other fights did he fight for even 2 full rounds, or 10 minutes.

While there's no question that McGregor is in great condition, it's still a fact that he isn't accustomed to fighting for even 10 minutes total. By contrast, in 12 of Mayweather's last 14 fights, he's fought for 36 minutes.

In addition, Mayweather has fought all these 36-minute fights wearing 10-oz gloves. McGregor has fought his much shorter fights wearing 4-oz gloves.

Sure, it's possible that McGregor can land a lucky shot, but Mayweather has been in the ring with a number of hard-hitting fighters who are far more trained in the specifics of boxing than McGregor will be, and has never been cleanly knocked down with a punch.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the fight go the distance, but once the fight gets to the 6th round, McGregor is going to be reaching the limit of his normal fighting time, and Mayweather will be deadly against a tiring fighter.

The biggest wild cards in this are Mayweather's age and whether or not he trains seriously. The only way to mitigate the downside of the first factor is to focus on the second. If he shows up fat and out of shape, then McGregor's chances rise dramatically.
