MSU Does not reach goal of 3-9 players selected in 2017 NFL Draft (But Toledo Did)
A Toledo Rocket Football player friend of mine, happened to mention an anomaly with this year's NFL Draft - that quite simply made my heart grow 3 sizes the day he told me.
In case you missed it, my former team and Alma Mater - THE University of Toledo Rockets - had MORE players drafted than Michigan State.
As a former player (siren alert!!) this makes me proud A.F.
As a Michigan fan, it makes me giggle with glee.
Perhaps next year they can try to get 2-10 players drafted and yet again fall short.
there aren't like 1,000 of us that still enjoy the shit out of it!
at th time of my viewing your post, you had 3 downvotes-9 upvotes.
Just found that interesting.
I think it will continue to be hilarious for as long as it bugs the shit out of sparty fans.
Yes.
Seriously, this board can be painful to read at times with all the played out jokes that just won't die.
And the whining about the played-out jokes.
And the whining about the whining about the played-out jokes.
And the....
...we beat MSU and OSU.
MOAR,cowbells please...
I'm glad your avatar is in sync with the rest of his lil crew. Important to stay on beat!
Made my day boliver46...thanks blue!!
I watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on HBO this weekend. ELO was inducted. One of the songs they performed was "Evil Woman." Fantastic cowbell song. Yes also played their cowbell song, "Owner of a Lonely Heart," but I thought the 'bell really stood out on the ELO song.
Not too long ago, Michigan was not having many players drafted either. Funny how people forget that.
thing about history.
It keeps being made. :)
And I'm sure MSU was certainly happy back in the 'good old days' of 3-9 years ago, at our expense.
I don't like your comment but I upvoted you anyway so you have 3 upvotes and 9 negs. You're welcome.
I can't believe some NFL team wasted a draft pick on Montae Nicholson. MSU really should have tied Eastern Michigan with 1 drafted
Dude looked like a bobblehead being spun around trying to find receivers to cover.
I was blown away watching the draft ticker at work when I saw "Nicholson S - Michigan State" It was purely a pick based on measurables because the kid looked absolutely lost out there on tape.
Big and beautiful with no impact on the game whatsoever.
Congratulations! Your Rockets join the following not-particularly renowned schools (i.e., not known for putting tons of folks in the NFL) in having more draft picks that MSU:
Louisiana Tech; N.C. State; San Diego State; South Florida; Temple; Toledo; and Western Michigan.
And several even had a higher Draft Points score than MSU (Toledo did not)
That's nice. This was supposed to be a good year for MSU.
the post above me was edited before I could reply, here is my own edit:
It is also notable that schools the likes of Western Michigan, Temple, South Florida, San Diego State and several others, schools you don't usually see much in the draft most years, also sent more players to the NFL this time around than Michigan State. It will be interesting to see if they rebound in any way, but given all that has happened in East Lansing lately, that doesn't seem too likely in the short term.
I selfishly had to highlight the Toledo portion - but I am happy about the rest of that too! With several having better Draft Points scores as well!
I asked myself, could there possibly be a better joke about MSU out there? Perhaps one that is waiting in the weeds? No...where's the threat? My little brothers who are 23-32 all agree, there will never a better joke.
I don't mind the running gag because I don't like MSU.
Western Michigan had a far superior draft to anyone in the MAC and MSU. Through the 2nd round, they had as many draft picks as the entire Big 12. They ended up with 3 players getting selected. Go Broncos!
that would seem to indicate some definite problems! They would have had a bunch of talent on their previous team (that is now departing), and would have been unable to leverage that to achieve many victories!
For instance, Penn State went 3-9 in 2003 --- and had four players drafted in the April 2004 draft. While I was happy for the players who were drafted, I didn't view the above as a good sign as regards PSU's immediate-term future! And sure enough, Penn State had another lousy season in 2004 (4-7).
Of all the schools that had 3+ players drafted in the 2017 NFL Draft --- only one finished with a losing record in 2016. That was California (5-7).
Joke is old. I'm still good with the gifs though!
Haviing 11 players drafted from one team is basically being on the winning side of an impoosisibe to lose argument. Stranger walks up, "Heard Michigan had 11 players drafted this year to set record?" Well we might have hd 11 players drafted biut they certainly didn't play like NFL caliber players "Sorry sr, don't get to catch to much of cfb; lots of traveling, but I hear your qb got hurt late in the season, was even replaced for a game and yet you almost beat OSU, a team that pummeled you last season, and is it true this was your coach's second year only, your quarterbaack's first? Sounds like you guys are moving in the right direction" Well, like I said, it's deceptive "Your record? 10-3 Scoring differental? 4 pts "You lost 3 games in your qbs first season, he's hurt in game number 10, should set our rest of year but tells your second year coach all he needs is a game off and he'll though it out, made some misktakes, but with a little luck, you could have went undefeated easily?
"And here I thoughy your guys accomplished something, No 5 overrated too? No he's pretty good No3,big lazy I bet? No he's pretty good? hat about 33? No he's decent/ Well I'd be pissed at you You have all these great pleayer,a nd you coudn't do shit Makes ,me scick Actual No 1 defense in the country "Jumping Bald-headed Jesus, Man, IWhy didn't you tell me you were just learning game. I did no watch one of your games, buit let me tell you somehing. You guys had great year. Very difficult to have one unit play well enough to have almos everyone to leave get drafted into the NFL We cand agree those men did not overchieve, right And they were the best in the country, so those coming back didn't overachieve and your coach is obiously great. Understand you're a liittle upset witha qb, tha got banged up late in the year, buit sat only one game, his three top receivers wee all taken, without one OLmen or Rb? Sounds like he had a great year All confrence, you say, first year? Cool. Now I am going to tell you something Ty; If you contnue to act like this no one will want to hang with you. I've heard about Harbaugh. He's great. Youv egot Brown, I will say this only once. You guys are building somehing great here. Take the time to enjoy it. OSU and Bama ended the same way you did, you know? Sometimes you have seasons like that, they just donj't go the way you wish, Take ND a few years ago, Same with MSU. Would y0u trade places with them? Didn't thnk so/ Amd I want to tell you something becuase after spoeaking with yur for awhile, kind of like you. Any team that sends 11 players into the NFL, an entire half sid of a team, Good Lorrd that's great. Do you realize how hard they hard to work?
The final thng. We NFL scourts don't make peole instant milllionaires for underachieving. In fact, the U.S, Congress is the only place I am aware fhat pays well and demands very little noqw quit crying and begiin acting like a real Michigan Man. Bye.. Go Blue!!!
