Berkley felt like a dangerous place to me.

Yeah, although once you get South of ~Ashby/Alcatraz it goes downhill pretty quickly. Because Oakland, obviously.

Source? Lived in both AA and Berkeley for >5 years.

Also true. Ann Arbor probably has the most in common with Boulder of any other major college town, right down to being on the fringes of a larger metro area, except Boulder stuck me as slightly more tony whereas Ann Arbor still has a few solidly middle class sections. Berkeley shares the hippie dippy liberal past, but not much else.

Having lived in both (4 years in Berkeley, 9 in AA) I have to agree. Ann Arbor is your basic quaint college town. Berkeley is...interesting.

Tuscaloosa isn't a good fit either. K-zoo is just like any other college town in the midwest, really.

So you're saying interviewing for every job under the sun in Texas very openly for like 3 years was a bad move?

that Cal has the budget for Chip Kelly and the sort of staff he would require.

Man, does Chip Kelly really want to go back to college? If he does, Cal would be a nice fit.

Justin Wilcox?
His name will be on the short list.

that sounds at all likely.

that just happen to miraculously be available.
Chip Kelly
Les Miles
Jeff Fisher
Has Cal ever had this much intrigue over a coaching position?

Miles would be an interesting candidate, but I'm guessing Cal will go all in for Chip Kelly. He may not be much of a pro coach, but he is a top-10 college coach, he gets right back into a conference he is heavily familiar with, and he is an instant upgrade for Cal in all areas: coaching, recruiting, and fan support. Kids will commit to Cal who would've otherwise never even considered the school. And he doesn't even have to move.
The question will just be whether or not Kelly wants to get back into the game now, or take a year off and wait for something potentially better next year.

Maybe they'd look, but it wouldn't be as easy as Oregon, almost specifically because of admissions.

desire to be a head coach. While I haven't seen the details, I've yet to hear of an assisant's contract that has a buyout to keep him from taking a HC job.
Aside from showing their commitment to Drevno, the main point is that It locks him in here instead of moving to a different OC job. There would be a buyout for that. It also sets a standard for salary and security that a low G5 school might need to top.

All of them??? This seems like an odd thing for a liberal, west coast university to do. Won't this lead to a Title IX investigation of massive proportions? :-)

and Dykes looked miserable coaching there.
