Rutgers fans apparently didn't know Drew Singleton was a Michigan lean

Submitted by Decatur Jack on

So in another installment of the LOL RUTGERS series, I had a bunch of friends from NJ text me these priceless reactions. I found a few on my own at these places:

SINGLETON TOO?!?! ARE YOU SRS?!??
Yet another reason to hate Harbaugh.
This is Partridge's doing, I just know it.
Partridge is the worst fucking person in the world. He needs to eat a dick asap. I would offer mine but no thanks it ain't even worth it
What the fuck is wrong with Ash?? Singleton was a MUST GET
No chance to get better as a program if this keeps happening
Were we even on Singleton's radar?
(Reply) He listed us in his top ten.
(Reply) And you believed that?
Ash needs to start getting these NJ recruits or we are seriously fucked
It just makes no sense why a Jersey kid like DS would ever want to go to Michigan, what's so special about them? Harbaugh? FUCKK THAT GUY
Fuck Partridge
Why are we even talking about this??? Singleton committed to Mich with a torn acl, if anything we dodged a bullet!
Oh wow a Paramus kid went to Michigan? Never heard that before...
Guess Ash's friendship with Urban Meyer is really working out, isn't it
Weird. I wouldn't have picked Singleton to go to Michigan. They're already loaded at that position.
Someone needs to explain to me how this KEEPS HAPPENING
Hard to keep a major recruit in state when we lose 78-0
Chris Ash is the future! I guess Drew Singleton wants to have a life full of disappointment
DONT CARE OUR CLASS WILL END UP BEATING THEM
noooooo anywhere but michigan!!!!!
I loathe Chris Partridge. I loathe that man. Loathe.
Parmus recruits are bullshit anyway, Peppers didnt even win the heismen
This kid will never see the field!
Ok I am bothered by this but srsly it doesnt matter

Apparently they didn't realize he was a Michigan lean.

Hope you all enjoyed! (Yes, I do enjoy posting Rutgers fans freaking out about Michigan. There's just something fun about it.)

EDIT: Also quick thanks to WD who mentioned their Rivals.com threads, which I forgot to link to. There are some good gems in there too. I particularly enjoyed this one:

This is the last year of the partridge in a pear tree.

Ash owns NJ in 2018.

I like how they're getting mad at Partridge for all of this. It isn't Partridge's fault that Rutgers was blown out of the water by three of the top six teams in the country. In fact, didn't he want to go to Rutgers but they called it off because a couple of New Jersey high school coaches didn't like the guy?

that covered the Scarlet Knights. He actually thought he knew football, BIG football, and sadly so too did many people that read his daily column.

I was trying to explain how difficult it would be for them to be successful in this conference when they had only experienced a few decent seasons in the Big East, but they simply could not grasp they were going up about five levels. I explained to them whoever was considered top dog in the Big East - maybe W. Va then, can't recall - would come in at about number 5 -6 range in the BIG and even asked them to check their historical success vs. Penn State to try and get a feel for how they might fair in the BIG. Neither the columnist nor the fans accepted they would struggle. They thought that even though they were a "in the middle of the pack" program in the best of times, their new alliance would provide them access to the best players on the east coast, even though they had been losing those recruits to both PSU and MD for years, even before those two became members of the BIg. It was like talking to State fans to be honest.

As to the question of why N.J. has what seems to be  a disproportionate number of quality h.s. football players, the answer is the same as it is in OH. They have many well paid, quailty coaches that run some of the nation's best programs. Don Bosco, Paramus Catholic, Bergen Catholic, et. al., all belong to one MEGA SUPER conference and they regularly play teams from around the nation. However, the number of blue chippers in Jersey is roughly the same as it is in Michigan, maybe 8 to 10 in a given season. It does appear it's a loaded state because we've been getting the majority of that talent since Harbaugh arrived on the scene.

But as to their fans? They will always be thinking Rutgers - for reasons I cannot comprehend - has achieved more than it has, will achieve more in the future and is - I'm guessing this is due to receiving the same invitation PSU rec'd, they are a big time school.

to be in a conference where they're so overmatched. No wonder they sound desperate.

Look Rutgers, why not go to the ACC? And take Penn State with you. We'll all be better off.

Really hard to even feel bad for these poor bastards.  They are so sad and clueless.  I mean I get the loyal fanbase and I'm sure everyone gets a little biased and whiney but it's mind boggling.  Their class will beat ours?  Singleton will now have a lifetime of disappointment going to Michigan instead of Rutgers??!!!  Yikes.

These "lol rutgers" threads are pathetic.  Why any Michigan fan feels the need to spend time thinking about them is a sad reflection on our fan base.  They're a bad team, I get it.  I don't want them in the conference either but it says a lot about the dissatisfaction with our season that so many fans feel the need to dump on them.

We got a great recruit, it's a good story.  That a really poor football program wishes they could have had him is not a story.  Michigan fans are making rutgers a rival and it's pathetic.

you feel you are of such stature that your words are going to be meaningful for giving us your opinion. I can only speak for myself, but I felt exactly the same after reading your post as I did prior to. So, damn fine job. Meaningless, but I'm sure you gained a sense of satisfaction by portraying yourself superior to the rest of us. Good job

kudos to the one fan that appears to be rational enough to know that losIng 78-0 is not going to keep top recruits in state. To all the rest of the pathetic idiots, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

asap would make that poster happy?  Would he/she be less happy if Partidge ate a dick later and whose dick would he/she want Partridge to eat?

New Jersey has always had top talent, we have just never really been in on it before.

But two recent developments have changed that:

1) Rurgers (and to a lesser extent Maryland) have joined the Big Ten East   This puts Michigan top of mind in the area.  We play in NJ or within a couple of hours of NJ (MD, PSU) every single year.

I live in the mid-Atlantic area and Michigan is now perceived as a "local school".  The local media covers Michigan consistently.  Delany may be a money-grubbing jerk, but this one worked in our favor.

2) The recent implosion of Penn State.  Traditionally, PSU is like OSU . . . the only premire school in a talent-rich area.  20 - 30 years ago, guys like Singleton would have gone to Penn State.

We DO NOT want a resurgent Penn State any time soon. Root for PSU to get exposed as a fraud in the Rose Bowl. Forget any kind of SEC-like Big Ten loyalty. Penn State is still an easy car trip from NJ vs. and airplane trip for us. We need to gain recruiting critical mass in NJ before PSU returns to form.  Harbaugh is on the right track.

If I remember correctly, you are from PA and have knowledge of how things are here.  Once upon a time, PSU owned NJ like Michigan does now.  Their self-directed implosion opened the state up. Don't count Franklin out as he has been recruiting NJ for a long time but he hasn't proven enough at PSU yet to make a difference.

Yes, correct.  Both my brothers went to Penn State.  I have followed PSU and gone to PSU games since the '70s.

As a Michigan fan, a resurgent PSU scares the crap out of me.  JoePa had that program sleep walking even before the sanctions.  It has not been fully functional since the '90s.

But when it is fully functional, it has structural advantages like Ohio State does.  The only top program in a talent rich area that's within driving distance.  That's big.

We need to gain critical mass in recruiting the mid-Atlantic region before Penn State recovers.  And they will recover.  Memories are short.

Harbaugh is doing just that.  I could not be more pleased with the recruiting job he is doing in the talent-rich mid-Atlantic area.  We need to keep it up before the sleeping giant that is Penn State wakes up.

Also, we make fun of Rutgers and Maryland and even Temple, but we need them to gain some recrutitng critical mass as well, to drain some local driving-distance talent away from Penn State.

Bring in Pitt. or someone else. Rutgers sucks and they

have no shot in the foreseeable future.

It feels like a bye week when they come up on the schedule.

The treatment of players by the previous staff was deplorable.

Last year was a long-ass drive to see a scrimmage against a high school team.

Is Harbaugh vs. Franklin. As long as that is the matchup we

have nothing to fear. If it wasn't for Penn State we'd be in the Rose Bowl.

And that still pisses me off greatly. I hope USC beats the shit out of them.

I am perilously close to endorsing the Rutgers "rivalry." Watching Rutgers' impotent rage at their inability to beat Michigan is really what the MSU rivalry should feel like at all times. I mean, I'm not saying that Michigan will acknowledge the rivalry, nor will there be a trophy, but Rutgers has my permission to continue to irrationally compare itself to Michigan, when in reality they should aspire to be Purdue.
