I think you just proved the first premise. Now let's see if you outwork the MGoCommentariat. (BTW, it's "outsmart" and "outwork", but whatevs.)

From what I read here, that ref was a Michigan State fan.

I think the lesson here is if you're going to lose, lose early, not late in the season.

As long as you guys retain Zach Smith Michigan is +1 in coaching.
I was glad when he left Temple.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:26 PM ^
I'm fine with him. I understand why people here hate him since he's kind of a prick on Twitter (2016 is weird, huh) but it's hard to argue with his results.
December 2nd, 2016 at 8:17 PM ^
Frankly, I think Zone 6 has sucked baboon booty this year. And that's all on Zach Smith. He's a better Tweeter than a WR coach.
December 2nd, 2016 at 8:14 AM ^
Of nepotism perhaps.
Aside from that, his development of receivers (given the rather full cupboard he inherited at tOSU) has been at best middling.
A quick review of JT Barrett pass numbers this year bears this out easy.
FWIW, I don't get exactly why he's such an idiot on Twitter given his "career accomplishments" and coat tail riding but whatevs.
December 2nd, 2016 at 1:35 PM ^
You know OSU's leading WR had literally 14 catches the year before Zach Smith got there, right? He turned Philly Brown, Evan Spencer and Devin Smith into NFL WRs. He turned Jalin Marshall and Braxton Miller from QBs into NFL WRs. Mike Thomas is the best rookie WR in the NFL. He turned Curtis Sameul from a high school RB into one of the best WRs in the B1G.
OSU's passing game in general has struggled this year. Our RT was really bad. Our LG is 18. JT is skittish under pressure. The dropoff from Herman at OC has been huge. Like I said, you can hate Smith's personality, but the dude has been a good coach for OSU. And he just recruited 2 five stars for this year's class, while getting us in the room with DPJ. He's ok.
And JT has more yards, TDs and less interceptions than Speight. So idk man. What about your WRs?
December 2nd, 2016 at 3:17 PM ^
or the pure talent of the players, woudl you like to elaborate?
A word from a mouth says a lot about what is in his head and in his heart ( or in these days of Trump and twitter, "a twit from his finger").
December 2nd, 2016 at 4:30 PM ^
And who do you think recruits this WR talent?

It helped when the NCAA finally decided to do something about their violations and Carroll conveniently left for Seattle when the writing was on the wall. The NCASS doesn't seem too concernred to look into anything OSU is doing (or anyone else for that matter...)
December 1st, 2016 at 9:10 PM ^
I agree that crying about it solves nothing...but recruiting matters.
Ask Nick Saban.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:15 PM ^
Well, if there was ever a year OSU was going to be vulnerable, it was this year. And look what they still did.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:19 PM ^
18 of their starters had at least 3 years in the program. They aren't a young team.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:25 PM ^
Not sure about that. Every time I watched them the commentators always said "this is the youngest team in the country"
December 1st, 2016 at 10:21 PM ^
It's because they lost a lot of starters. I'm not sure what year they all were, but based off what the guy above you was saying, they weren't a bunch of freshmen and sophomore, mostly RS sophomores, juniors and RS juniors.

"With the way urban is recruiting they are likely to always be a young but talented team."
I'm afraid that we'll turn into a one or two and done type of school. No one had really heard of Malik Hooker before this year. Now some are saying that he could go in the 1st round. Experience goes a long way on college football. I fear that we could be lacking it for years to come...except maybe at QB.

We need a dominant O-line, a Harbaugh developed QB, and Don Brown's defense.
Surround this with a top 5 class year in and year out and we will beat them consistently.
NFL system > Urban Gimmick offense.
We saw what an NFL type defense does to Urban's offense. We just need the O-line now and we will pro-style them to crap, just like Saban did Meyer at UF once he got his players and system set up.
December 1st, 2016 at 9:48 PM ^
I'm sure once Harbaugh's first two classes are Juniors and Seniors they will be kicking ass!

Harbaugh develops players professionally.
I look at Devin Bush Jr. and Josh Metellus and I feel very happy about the future. Very happy.

Thank God someone else around here has my mindset on this. Next year's UM team isn't goiing to be 2007 USC but don't sleep on 'em! A few key areas determine a lot and cover up areas that may be suspect...
1. Excellent quarterback play: This elevates the entire team and covers up a lot. I expect Speight to be a legit big time guy next year
2. D-line play: D-line will kick ass next year. Not as deep so someone needs to step up but starting talent almost as good as this year
3 O-line play: Admittedly a concern
I expect Michigan to be elite in #1 and #2 above. WIll we miss our two stud wr's and jake butt? Hell yeah...but excellent qb play and some young talent will make up for it. Not to mention some playmakers liek mcdoom and evans who are really setup for breakout years next year.
I'm a pessimist about Michigan football but I'm incredibly optimistic about a solid 10-2 season next year and in the hunt for a big ten title and playoff spot.

It's not verboten. It's just wrong. He is pretty decent. Very good pocket presence, cool under fire. Not spectacular, but good nonetheless.
December 1st, 2016 at 10:50 PM ^
Speight is a solid QB.
December 2nd, 2016 at 3:42 PM ^
Certainly Speight has been more than what we'd hoped for at the beginning of the season. Yes, he has been great in some games (Rutgers/Maryland) and adequate in others, but he was sorely below average vs IOWA and then never really rose up above the expectation to take the charge of the game (OSU) (there are others factors of course). The latter is what separate a great one from an average one. Sure this is his first year, but there is a some hard to grasp built in limitation or blockage that may prevent him from ever being a gamechanger type of Q that we all wish from him as a Michigan Q.
What I am afraid of is that he has reached his plateau and we may have to shift our hope on Peters/McCaffrey to be the gamechanger for Michigan.

Their class is amazing but we can still have a better offensive class. Better QB, WR's, RB (if we get Harris), OL could be about equal. We'll see.

December 1st, 2016 at 9:12 PM ^
but even in the Peter Carroll days at USC, they'd still lose to Oregon State. We're recruiting right behind OSU and have one of the best coaching staffs in the country. I'm not that worried.
