More Sparty Crying about Chris Frey
Chris Frey's father is upset at the officiating rather than the likelihood that his son played with a concussion without even being checked by MSU for that under concussion protocol.
"Instead of asking questions about our MSU Training Staff. Why don't you start asking the B1G about a targeting review that they skipped."
Right, that 15 yards and ejection for our specials team's player may have lead to a difference in outcome, just like Riley Bullough.
More Sparty tears. Link is below.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said Sunday night that Frey was not diagnosed with a concussion, but could only assume that Frey went through the concussion protocol on the sidelines.“Yes, I assume that he did because we have Dr. (David) Kaufman on the sidelines to do just that,” Dantonio said. “He was never diagnosed with a possible concussion or anything like that.
This quote sucks. Fuck you Mark.

All the Radio Sport DJs wouldn't shut up about it. That went on for most of the week about who knew what when? Then it went hyper drive when the AD Brandon had a brain fart and got involved. I was beginning to wonder if Hoke or Brandon would survive that one.

that's what we're saying. That they missed it like Shane Morris.

Admittedly, they did enough to get fired aside from that, but there was no coming back from that fiasco. Is MSU taking this seriously or not? We certainly did.

Bolden pushed into MSU player = maybe the worst targeting call I've ever seen.
Bush hit on Frey = probably should have been targeting. That's not a hit that should be encouraged against any team/player. You don't have to hit him helmet to helmet for that block to be devastating and effective.

Yup, his head snapped sideways and backwards because of the shoulder to shoulder contact. https://streamable.com/cxbt?t=18.5

Unless Bush has a head growing out of his shoulder, that was not head to head. It might have been shoulder to neck area, which could potentially make it targeting.

It's not targeting and that's not debatable. Helmet to helmet is only relevant when helment to helmet is initial contact (which it is not during this play). Yes, his head snaps back after helmet to helmet contact, but only AFTER shoulder to shoulder contact. Bush went right through Frey, just like he was supposed to. This is not even debatable and the fact that it is being debated is mind boggling.
November 1st, 2016 at 12:39 AM ^
But he lowered his shoulder and there is no way you can tell me that was the crown of his helmet. He was defenseless only because he wasn't looking at Bush coming at him even though they were ten yards apart when Bush lined him up. If I hear Maise and Blue goggles you sir are obviously trolling this thread and with a pair of Green and White Goggles..

This video shows exactly why it was NOT targeting and why the call on the field was correct (like it or not). Yes, there was head to head contact during the play, BUT the initial point of contact was shoulder to shoulder. Head to head came second. You can watch this video frame by frame and during the second view shown, it's crystal clear. You cannot call targeting when that happens.
October 31st, 2016 at 9:41 PM ^
I don't think it was. On first rewatch, I thought he hit him hard and clean with his shoulderpad. That was before I saw anyone talking about targeting. Then I rewatched it, and I saw the same thing.
October 31st, 2016 at 9:46 PM ^
I really can't believe people are arguing that this isn't helmet to helmet. I just google'd "bush hit on frey" and this was the top link: http://brobible.com/sports/article/michigans-devin-bush-lays-out-michigan-st-lb-chris-frey-targeting/. Check the screen grab and the video below it.

There is also a late hit on Peppers at the end with a guy jumping on well after he is down and tackled by 2 guys. Missed calls happen. The targeting on Peppers is definately leading contact with the crown of his helmet. I'm not sure if peppers counts as a defensless player. Just a Frey was definatly not a defensless player(unless you count putting someone that injured our there).

Frey was likely a defenseless player per the rules, Peppers was absolutely not.
Defenseless player (Rule 2-27-14):
- A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.
- A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
- A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return.
- A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
- A player on the ground.
- A player obviously out of the play.
- A player who receives a blind-side block.
- A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped.
- A quarterback any time after a change of possession.
- A ball carrier who has obviously given himself up and is sliding feet-first.

Note 1: "Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to:
Launch—a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet

Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet
The crown of the helmet, by rule, starts just above the face mask. Bush definitely lowered his head.
November 1st, 2016 at 9:30 AM ^
I have no idea what you're watcing. At no point in the video does Bush's helmet contact Frey's helmet. Now, it is probably targeting (by rule), but not helmet to helmet. Maybe you should rock the Ricky Vaughn look, it may improve your eyesight.

Ah, it fits the narrative. Got it.
October 31st, 2016 at 11:37 PM ^
Regardless, I think putting somebody back in a game when they may have a concussion is more egregious than what at one time used to be considered a good football play. It isn't like the intent of the hit is to play dirty whereas there is clear intent in risking future health issues for putting somebody back in the game.
November 1st, 2016 at 8:11 AM ^
It doesn't have to be helmet to helmet to be targeting.
There are TWO targeting rules. This falls under the second.
"initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the ... shoulder."
Targeting and Initiating Contact With the Crown of the Helmet (Rule 9-1-3)
No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul.
Targeting and Initiating Contact to Head or Neck Area of a Defenseless Player (Rule 9-1-4)
No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, fist, elbow or shoulder. When in question, it is a foul. (Rule 2-27-14)
November 1st, 2016 at 9:11 AM ^
That isn't what happened. Look at the screen shots. He initiated contact shoulder to shoulder. As Frey crumpled up around hit their helmets hit.
November 1st, 2016 at 11:07 AM ^
Actually - after looking at the screenshots and video -
1) First contact is with helmets BEFORE shoulders hit.
2) Bush is head down and hits with the helmet just above the face mask - which is the crown of the helmet per rules.
"We want everyone to understand that the crown of the helmet starts from the area above the facemask to the dome of the helmet."
NCAA Football Secretary-Rules Editor Rogers Redding
The image below is hitting with the crown of the helmet per the NCAA:

Losing to a rival at home and then a possible concussion issue the days following...this sounds all to familiar to me.

Go home, Sparty, stop crying you pansy ass fools. Man do I love reading this shit. It makes me so happy for the players who took care of business.
In a separate note. When you knock out Frey, injure at least 2 QBs, does that mean that you "outhit" them?
