PSU still doesn't get it and never will!
After their huge upset of OSU, James Franklin proclaimed that now the "healing process" at PSU can take place. Sure, that makes sense.
Win a big home game as an underdog and all the PTSD, life problems, physical and emotional scars of anal rape can finally now begin to heal because the valiant Nittany Lions won a football game.
Yes James Franklin, this win probably helped you save your job and may help PSU's football program not continue collapsing into complete irrelevance. But really? Is that what healing is?
I would like to say that I am amazed by the complete lack of perspective and sensitivity coming out of "Happy Valley", but I'm not, as once again that sick cult culture fostered at State College exposes itself.

I'm sympathetic to this point of view, but I can see what Franklin is talking about with a healing process. Neither Franklin nor any of the guys on that team did anything wrong, but they've had to go through crap because of crimes committed by others and an administration and some fans that are still absolutely clueless. I can see how Franklin and some players might feel that way.

His reactions to the rapes at Vanderbilt are very much in line with the issues at Penn State. Franklin may not have contributed to anything that happened at Penn State, but he is not a good person as far as I am concerned and does not deserve healing before he deals with his own skeletons.

The problem is the institution they represent still don't believe they did anything wrong either. So fuck PSU and anyone associated with that program for perpetuity

Yeah, the irony of all this -
I rooted for the psu football team to beat the osu football team because
1) it helps Michigan's football team in the quest to win the East Division of the B1G and
2) it's osu, Duh!
But as a result the psu fans get to rush the field and their coach gets to say this begins the healing.
So....... how do you type that shruggy guy? Never figured that out, but insert him (here)

he was forced to take the Penn State job. He's a victim of circumstance, he had no idea about any of this stuff when he signed the dotted line at gun point.

I feel sorry for no one but the kids.

Agreed. The players and coaches there now had nothing to do with anything that happened back then. Their program is healing from sanctions that were meant to completely kill the program. I agree with that you've said.

The JoePa supporters and those PSU fans living in denial make me sick too. But I know many PSU alumni/fans who are sickened by JoePa and the others in power that let these horrific actions take place. Should those PSU alumni have to walk around in shame, and be called graduates of the pedophile school forever? It is their alma mater - give them a break.
Some of you people posting here are deranged. Leave the good PSU fans alone...

because they have nothing else to do in their lives, other than work 50 hours a week, raise their children, spend time with their friends and families, and god forbid, relax and watch a football game on Saturday. They should take vacation time and go to Happy Valley and picket the administration.
Get past it with the good fans of PSU and give them a break. They just want to represent their alma mater and live their lives well...

"Neither Franklin nor any of the guys on that team did anything wrong, but they've had to go through crap because of crimes committed by others and an administration and some fans that are still absolutely clueless."
The problem is that this is 100% what they signed up for when they inked that LOI to play for Penn State. Since 2011, NO ONE with half a brain or any ounce of common sense can genuinely claim ignorance of anything related to the atrocious reputation of the university anymore. Those who stayed knew the atmosphere, knew the allegations, knew the culture they were engulfing themselves in. No player or coach can claim ignorance or whine about how unfair it is when they all 100% signed up for everything that comes with playing for a university and fanbase that continues to worship, shield, and enable pedophilia in the name of their precious football program.

The problem is that anytime someone in State College says "healing process" part of what they mean is the reinstatment of the pedophile enabler Paterno's wns, records, and statue.

Here's the testimony:
Q: Did [Bradley] tell you that he had had information concerning Gerald Sandusky and children?
A: He said he knew of some things.
Q: And did he tell you what he knew of?
A: Yeah.
Q: What did he tell you?
A: He said another assistant coach had come to him in the early ‘90s about a very similar situation to mine, and he said that he had—someone had come to him as far back as early as the ‘80s about seeing Jerry Sandusky doing something with a boy.
Q: Did he identify who the other coaches were that had given him this information?
A: The one in the early ‘90s, yes.
Q: And who was that?
A: Greg Schiano.
Q: Greg Schiano?
A: Yes.
Q: And did he give you any details about what Coach Schiano had reported to him?
A: No, only that he had—I can’t remember if it was one night or one morning, but that Greg had come into his office white as a ghost and said he just say Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower. And that’s it. That’s all he ever told me.
Q: Did he tell you what, if anything, he had done about that?
A: No, he didn’t share with me
Never root for OSU for anything. I was
rooting for PSU's Players to win last
night because they had Nothing to
do with the past. Glad they won.
Fuck OSU and Fuck PSU's JoePa
slappies who will never get it.

It will help us going forward.
Healing implies that victims are being helped. I don't think winning a football game helps victims of institutionalized child molestation "heal".
October 23rd, 2016 at 5:22 PM ^
No, here healing implies that PSU is the victim. That's worse. And it's abhorrent and vile
October 23rd, 2016 at 11:14 AM ^
And then to equate the healing process with winning games, after putting winning above protecting children from a rapist?!
Words matter, and PSU has earned the pressure to walk on egg shells for decades in order to slowly rebuild its self-desecrated respect and honor. Maybe if they are forced to self-reflect after every single thing happens to them, they will actually understand the full scale of their actions.

Why would they suddenly start getting it now?
October 23rd, 2016 at 11:45 AM ^
They aren't. On the free Scout board there is a thread titled "RIP JOE." The jist of the tread is that beating osu re-established Paterno's legacy so he can now rest in peace.

They don't understand PSU has nothing to heal. The PSU community weren't the victims. He also talked about how much the program has gone through in the last five years like they were the victims. PSU football and the PSU community were not the victims they were the problem and caring so much about a big football win is part of that problem. Until they get that anybody and everybody who supports that program can get fucked.
October 23rd, 2016 at 12:01 PM ^
Exactly. It's not about them. THEY were not the victims - Penn State is not a victim - not the program, not the coaches, players, fans, admin, etc.
To talk about "healing" when there are living, breathing victims living today in that community who are hurting because of that program is over the top disrespectful.
October 23rd, 2016 at 11:04 AM ^
I suspect he was referring only to his football program, not to the victims of this horrible tragedy.
October 23rd, 2016 at 11:07 AM ^
Here's the clip embedded in the tweet. Yeah, it's nice that OSU choked this one away and all that, but the healing process is something this school will apparently never allow to happen, at least not completely. They would first need to admit something happened, you see.

I had the same feeling; the way he spoke seemed to imply that they are somehow victims. Why do they need to heal? They're not victims. People who protect, enable, and defend child rapists are not victims.

say "the healing process can now begin" after a big win?

Just from the standpoint of "PSU has a fractured image", this was a healing process. And yeah, a lot of their fans STILL don't get it, and winning last night obviously won't fix that image. But to me, it was basically Franklin saying "we can finally celebrate something good for Penn State again". I don't get why that's so controversial.

you should be well aware of their recent history. And you should make damn sure to choose your words carefully when referencing it. You have to know it's not like any other coaching job.
