Maybe in three weeks, but they seem to be having a hard time agreeing on anything. If they take Houston, expect UH to quickly offer Herman what it takes to keep him. I'd bet on him staying put.

If the Big 12 rejects Houston, we'll all know Herman is gone, whatever he might say. Most interesting will be the Big 12 dragging things out.

It's also possible that LSU goes after Jimbo Fisher instead. He was interested last time.

Herman's bump in salary will be nice but Houston isn't exactly a destination job no matter the salary and the conference they are in.  Herman's only 41.  If Herman continues to have success, I don't think Houston will be the only team he is a head coach for in the college ranks.  Doesn't mean he'll leave this year just that he's not going to spend his entire career as the head coach of Houston.

Normally I dont like mid season firings...but this one is fine for all of the reasons you mentioned.  They wanted him gone last year and he was hanging on by a thread.  Its not as bad as when Hoke was at Michigan, but Hoke was on his last leg and everyone knew it.  He could not dig himself out, and Les could not either.   Michigan not firing Hoke mid season was the right call, because Harbugh was not in play yet due to the NFL and they could not talk to him.

LSU never recovered from losing to Bama in the NCG. Neither has Notre Dame or even Texas. And Sparty currently looks to be on a downward trajectory. My new theory is Nick Saban steals the soul of every program he beats in the postseason. The Clemson/Louisville game could determine validity.
