Speight is a dude
I am beginning to think that we are witnessing the next Qb to continue the line of Michigan Qbs starting in the NFL.... Of all the success recently with the wins and such, the biggest revelation, by far, is the improvement and rise of Wilton Speight. I've been watching him intently on every play....and am floored what Harbaugh has done here... this trumps his mentoring of Rich Gannon, a career journeyman turned top fantasy mvp star under Harbaugh. QB Whisperer, AMEN... Speight is pulling a ton of tricks and moves from nowhere, eluding pressure at an NFL level like Big Ben, continuing plays he had no business doing a year ago, just incredibly heady play all around. His pocket presence is fantastic. When I read he was way ahead of Rudock, I didn't believe it... fact is, it is not even close. Going forward, even on a low improvement level, we are looking at a starting NFL Qb in Speight, especially with another year here. His story may parallel Brady's time here somewhat.... was on the verge of transferring, behind the newcomer, yet perservered, and playing on Sundays.
Sure, I may be getting too forward on my skis here, but I cannot imagine I'm the only one who noticed the extremely proper Qb play by Speight in all facets, especially at eluding pressure.

Not quite.... for Speight showed me enough today, to merit his own thread... its that important.... if you don't think so, then try to remember what it was like with Gardner, Morris, etc.

Yeah really. Sure, Speight played well, but a lot of mediocre QBs would have won this game too given the rest of the team around him. This game wasn't exactly a revelation.

Let's pump the brakes there, chief. Wilton has been reasonably good. He has not been great, and this is against sub-par competition. Let's see what he's got in the bag against Wisky next week.

Compare this to last week - when some brainiac said he'd rather have ND's Kizer than Speight. LOL!! Yeah, I'm confortable with Speight.
Honestly, I don't think it will be very long before Michigan has a backup QB selected in the draft, ala Matt Cassle. This guy Harbaugh, he can coach a QB now...

Eh, I didn't say that, but actually I would rather have Kizer.

I'm pretty sure it's real. I think he steps forwards quickly just at the right time.

Definitely not sarcasm. Everyone knows Dantonio dabbles in the dark arts.

I like it when a guy has a couple of drinks and decides it's a great idea to tell the world his opinion on all of the things. +1

Speight was decent today. That's about it. He missed several short and intermediate throws that would have cost us against better teams.

Not to be that poster, but this sounds an awful lot like a snowflake.

Jim Harbaugh didn't coach Rich Gannon. He coached the backup QB's in Oakland, Marc Trestman coached Rich Gannon.

Watching the game again, i too am very impressed by how well he was able to shake and elude pressure in and out of the pocket. There was a play where he literally juked a pursuing DL from his blindside and then rolled around to complete a 7 yard gain. There are issues that he needs to improve upon, but regardless of what happens this year, imagine what another year under Harbaugh can do for this dude.
