Cal also lost to San Diego State. I know, the transitive property doesn't always apply, but they looked bad in both of their first two games, so that's not a good sign for Texas to lose to them.
September 18th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
I feel the same way, Based on the last couple of weeks, I see three losses at least but as you say, I don't know who to put ahead of us outside the top five.. Impressive wins for Sparty and the Bucks, really doesn't give me hope we're beating those guys this year on the road.

Other than having some weird axe to grind against "homers", what is your justification for having either of those teams ahead of Michigan?
Houston beat an Oklahoma team that is clearly not as good as originally advertised.
Stanford has won two pedestrian games against pedestrian teams.
September 18th, 2016 at 11:30 AM ^
Oklahoma is clearly better than any team we have played and losing to two teams that combined for two losses last year doesn't change that. Houston already beat cincinnati on the road, a team that is probably on the same level as colorado talent wise. Stanford has beaten two p5 teams, nobody cares we beat ucf and hawaii, we've played one that might have some talent and were down 21-7 and 28-24 before their qb got hurt and went out. That game isn't as comfortable as it was at the end if there isn't a backup qb missing open wr's most of the second half.
September 18th, 2016 at 11:48 AM ^
How exactly is it "clear" that Oklahoma is better than Colorado? Sure, they were expected to be better than them in the preseason, but they've looked like hot garbage in two of their three games.
I don't think we really know enough about a lot of teams at the moment.
September 18th, 2016 at 12:21 PM ^
is about as high as it gets.
September 18th, 2016 at 1:48 PM ^
That might mean something if they had actually been competitive in the games. Anyone can get blown out.
September 18th, 2016 at 2:05 PM ^
The thing is, OU wasn't very competitive against Houston or OSU. Throw in Clemson at the end of last year and that's three times in four games they've been embarrassed. Sure, all three have come against top 10 teams, but that also means we've had three chances to see how they stack up against the big boys and all three times they've looked like they didn't belong.
September 18th, 2016 at 11:51 AM ^
Oklahoma is not good. I doubt you watched either of their games. Mayfield is an interception machine behind a turnstile offensive line. Cincinnati looked better against Houston than Oklahoma.
Also, would you rank CMU higher than Michigan at this point? Because they have a better resume than us to date. Certainly doesn't make them a better team. Houston is really good and deserving of top 5 cosideration right now, but they are highly reliant on Ward Jr. They were wrecking teams last year until he went down, then they lost to Uconn.

Oklahoma looked awful in both games. It's not just that they lost, it's that they were run off the field. In both games the final score was charitable to them, if anything.
September 18th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
Oklahoma is not clearly better than Colorado.
September 18th, 2016 at 1:03 PM ^
I don't know where you're getting the notion that Oklahoma is better than Colorado at this point. They've looked like a shit sandwich so far.
Stanford hasn't done anything to show that they're a top 5 team. Beating K-State and USC in what appears to be a down year by a couple touchdowns doesn't exactly jump off the page.
Michigan came out flat against a better-than-expected Colorado team. They had evened up the game (and I would argue based on the defense stepping up that they had taken control of it) BEFORE Liufau went out. They beat a good team while playing the worst game they've played so far.
At the very least, you keep Michigan where they are in the rankings until someone else has proven that they're better. Neither of the two teams you'd have ranked ahead of them have done that yet.

Because the casual CFB fans of the board only look at the ESPN boxscore.

You have to understand that most people on this board are casual CFB fans and watch the Michigan game, then either the boxscore or highlights from other action. If someone has MSU above Michigan or Michigan outside the top 7, then they are not watching the other games and are eating straight off of the ESPN hype spoon.
September 18th, 2016 at 9:55 AM ^
Seriously? Us below State, and Houston, and Stanford? Based on what? "shaky" D, "bad" QB. So O'Connor is an amazing QB now and Speight is bad? GTFO

Who cares how far he throws it? People knock Tom Brady because he doesn't throw the deep ball enough, but why does he have to? Give it to the WR in space and let them make the play.
September 18th, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
I also don't recall seeing Jehu or Amara getting separation downfield at any point yesterday. Butt was the only one who was open downfield and Grant Perry got open on a Wilton scramble.
I don't care if you're Tom Brady, if the receivers aren't getting any separation there's nothing you can do. Wilton was a bit off target yesterday but the receivers weren't helping him

Both Clemson and MSU struggled against cupcakes. We struggled against a good Colorado teams for a quarter, then put them away. Get some perspective
September 18th, 2016 at 11:32 AM ^
We were trailing in the second half until their qb got injured and our offense couldn't sustain a drive that didn't start in Colorado territory.
September 18th, 2016 at 12:01 PM ^
Colorado has one successful play since the 1st quarter. We largely shutdown them down in the 2nd and 'won' the quarter 17-0. They came out 2nd half and hit a bomb and did almost nothing else before or after
September 18th, 2016 at 1:44 PM ^
Their QB got injured because our defense was putting relentless pressure on him. Oh, and Peppers took out the trainer who otherwise might have helped him!
