I never understood the loyalty to Orlovsky, and indeed, Rudock seemed to be making a case for himself to remain even if he was never in a position to best Matt Stafford. I wonder what teams might be interested in the event he is picked up though. This is yet another decision by the Lions that I am not sure I would agree with.

When it came time to play I thought Rudock played fine, outplayed Orlovsky, and could have been a very serviceable backup with a ceiling higher than Orlovsky. Coaches must have a hunch.

but Caldwell is an absolute cuck regarding Orlovsky. It makes zero sense but I called it a week ago (if they chose between them, thought they'd keep 3). Orlovsky is obviously banging Caldwell's wife as he watches, right?

I quit being a Lions fan about 12 years ago when they resigned Millen for that $50 million contract.  Had enough of the Idiocy... and will never go back.

Go Pats.

However like a lot of you, I had an interest in the Lions this year due to Jake and Graham.   Jake will be better off if he gets picked up by another team.  He probably will.  He looked like an NFL QB in the pre-season and has a long NFL career ahead of him.

Unfortunately for Glasgow, he will most likely end up a 10 year Lions vet with a sub .500 record and no Pro Bowls like Jeff Backus.   At least Graham will be a mult millionaire built of Mrs.  Ford's money.

Stats-ford is the most overrated QB in the NFL.  He never will be a winner but puts up good fantasy numbers sometimes.

Orlovsky is who we thought he was.

There's a reason Caldwell is one of the worst coaches in the NFL; I'm not saying Rudock is some star in the making, but Orlovsky at QB is a sub-replacement QB at best.

But whatever, Rudock should be able to find a better position for him.

I'm a big Jake Rudock fan, but this was the right call.  He will clear waivers and be signed to the practice squad were he can continue to learn the offense and then be the Lions back-up QB next season.

He played well, but not that great in the pre-season.  He needs more time to develop.

If Stafford gets injured later in the season, he can always take over over the strarting job at that time.

Compare the two in the pre-season, Rudock looked sharper and more on point when given opportunities. Dan Orlovsky has been in the league forever, and could potentially be one of the worst QBs to ever grace the NFL.

When you are a new GM, and you are trying to create a NEW culture that rewards players on how they show up in game film and make CHANGES to an organization that's been garbage for 50 years, you don't bring back Dan Orlovsky.

Don't really see this as a dig against Jake, but rather a roster decision. The team and the press have been mulling this decision for weeks. OL, TE, DL and LB were all areas where more bodies were required right now. A third string QB was a luxury. If they can get him on the PS, I think he'll develop enough to move Orlovsky out the door next season. Just my take.

Rudock would be a NFL QB? As terrible as the Lions are, if someone tells me "Rudock didn't make the final roster of a NFL team", my reaction isn't "WHAT? What a disgrace, I'm burning my season ticket!" but "Oh well, at least he gave it a shot."

Good luck with fucking Dan Orlovsky as your backup....

Either way, Rudock will be alright. Med School at UM is his BACKUP plan. And he's got a nice little paycheck from the Lions one way or another.

Rudock will go on to do great things no matter what he does, and he will always have a place here. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

I can't think of a team more committed to sucking for decades than the Lions. Being as bad as they are for as long as they have takes dedication to making many, many decisions like this. Suck it, Lions.

They are officially dead to me. I have never been a rabid Lions fan, but I watch casually and  root for them to win. I had been losing interest lately, and them drafting Rudock gave me a new reason to watch (I even watched their pre-season games). Now I just don't really care.

The second most poorly run team in the NFL, behind only Cleveland IME.

Boo, Lions.

Booo.

Odds on Rudock being picked up by the Vikings & starting/beating the Lions after Bradford goes down for the season?

This is a roster move. A lot of teams now keep their 3rd string QB on the practice squad and that may be what theyou are trying to do here. Also, Rudock does have some things he needs to work on before he should see the field in an NFL game. He needs to eat everything in sight and work on refining that next level timing and vision.

I am big fan of Lions and hoped Quinn will change things around. You should never have anything that reminds of that awful Lions team. Rudock is a smart kid. Hope he goes to another team. I am not watching Lions anymore. F*** Lions. Nothing changes.
