Day 1 in the SUBMARINE: Any Tidbits?

Submitted by kawter on

Day 1 is nearing an end:

A couple people on scout.com claim they were in "Full pads, O vs D" while there is some skepticism that "Full Pads" can't begin for a couple weeks...

Has anyone heard anything from inside, or around the Sub?

Intended or not, yours is oneo f the best trolls of the MGoBoards in a while.  We're all a bit wound up for the start of the season.  Just imagine if you said this two weeks from now. Bolivia would be out of the question. Instead, N. Korea?

This isn't pee wee football or even high school ball. You can hit on first day. Are they doing two a days? If so you can only hit for one of them and only 4 times in a week.

Looks like that is acccurate as far as i can tell

http://www.ncaa.org/health-and-safety/football-practice-guidelines

Preseason practice guidelines:

For days in which institutions schedule a two-a-day practice, live contact practices are only allowed in one practice.  A maximum four (4) live contact practices may occur in a given week, and a maximum of 12 total may occur in preseason.  Only three practices (scrimmages) would allow for live contact in greater than 50 percent of the practice schedule.

Inseason practice guidelines:

Inseason is defined as the period between six (6) days prior to the first regular-season game and the final regular-season game or conference championship game (for participating institutions).   There may be no more than two (2) live contact practices per week.

There's a 5 day acclimatization period before full pads in high school. In the NFL, no pads during OTAs and mini-camp.

Edit: There is a 5 day period in college as well. Shoulder pads can be worn day 3

17.9.2.3 Five-Day Acclimatization Period. [FBS/FCS] In football, preseason practice shall begin with a five-day acclimatization period for both first-time participants (e.g., freshman and transfers) and continuing student-athletes. All student-athletes, including walk-ons who arrive to preseason practice after the first day of practice, are required to undergo a five-day acclimatization period.

Lol those poor journalists need to actually work hard and approach from out of the box. They need to quit their bitching and work hard like everyone else. No one is going to cater to your candy asses. Work hard!

Yeah I saw that article too. Don't feel bad for them and honestly I don't feel bad for us degenerate fans either. Honestly, having Harbaugh as coach is LOADS better and more entertaining for the other 49 weeks of the season. It far outweighed the 3 week submarine we have to put up with. I mean really as a sports writer, which beat would you rather have? Michigan Football with the 3 week submarine? Or Purdue or Illinois football without the submarine? No contest.

Yet somehow the most popular Michigan football sites out there don't depend on media availability. Maybe more beat writers should start being innovative and actually analyzing the team in depth as opposed to asking boring stock questions that provide no insight, them transcribing that and pat themselves on the back for a job well done.

The talking heads on the radio seem to believe that the existance of sports requires them to be open to reporters.  I hate to tell them that before talk radio football was just fine.  When Carr had Fort Schembechler on full lock down, 110k showed up every week.  Reporters hold themselves in a position that has long since past.

Peppers took the snap from Peppers, fake handoff to Peppers, pump faked to Peppers on a crossing pattern, hitting Peppers deep on a post for a TD

Peppers is no doubt a very exciting player who has the ability to do big things. But let's also be honest. He was more tantalizing last season than dominant. He scored two touchdowns, didn't intercept any passes, and had 5.5 tackles for loss. He was very, very good, but he wasn't great. Hopefully, this will be his breakout season, where his enormous ability will lead to enormous results.

That was an MLive level of analysis. You're right, hopefully his counting stats go up as he gets more opportunities to blitz and play in the backfield, but his impact in his first season playing goes beyond counting stats.   On defense he erased screens to the point where opponents removed them from the game plan and his run support was excellent.  While he can improve his pass coverage (in just his second year playing), he did have several nice pass breaks ups. On special teams his returns and heady fair catching generated consistently good field position.  On offense his presence in the formation alone broke loose his teammates even when he didn't get the ball. He enables play designs that make D coordinator lose their bowels.   Dominant no, but his performance was worthy of the hype he is getting this year.

Yes, skill players provide the razzle dazzle and excitement, but you're seriously not going to comment on that great block from Peppers to sprinkle Peppers into the end zone?
