...as long as the refs get it right.
How many times in a season do Big Ten refs see tackle eligible formations? Probably none to three.
Anyone know if an erroneous 'ineligible receiver' call is reviewable?
OTOH, it would probably baffle opposing defenses too.
can be done w/out drawing an intent to deceive call.
Have to leave the guy lined up as a 'tackle' uncovered, and therefore an eligble receiver. If D does not notice, then they will think he is really one of the linemen and do not really even realize he is an eligible receiver,.
The more I think about it, however, the more I think that is has to be used just once when really needed. Once M does it, every team will coach their D to look for it.
So third quarter in East Lansing might be good time to use it. Or maybe they could even save it for Columbus.
You mean, go back to what TEs were like 15-20 years ago? TEs in the NFL today ARE the redefinition. Historically, tight ends have been linemen who can move a bit rather than huge receivers.
I meant as far as what our current roster is/has been set up for. Not so much historically from the NFL perspective but more based on recent Michigan TEs. I can't really remember the last time we had someone with this body size and skill set at the TE position. A better version of Tim Massaquoi?
Let's hope we can all witness it on the field this year.

Yeah wondering who will budge between TJ and JOK. Obviously can't both stay at 8.

Thinking the same. #33 and #44 are open for TJ, and others will come open as well after some of the camp walk-ons fall off.

Thank you for that observation.

Anyone recall how tall John Navarre is/was when he started?
6'8" Sessa passing to 6'7" TE Wheatly (covered by a 6'2" LB) in the red zone could be interesting.

it would have to be for Sessa to get a series or two.
In reality, even in 63-3 blowouts, I doubt teams go below 4th string QB.

Levert Hill is the lightest player on the team at 168. That said, Jourdan Lewis came in pretty slight as well, and that's worked out okay.

JBB has dropped another 14 lbs from his spring numbers and is now listed at 311. That's great news for him, as he may be called upon next season in his redshirt Jr. year.

It's okay. That just makes him quicker off the edge.

- Crawford is definitely big enough to play now and play outside
- Reuben Jones is still listed as a DE...not a shot at 222, LB the entire way - just like the two true freshman EMB and Uche
- Wheatley down weight is going to be a MONSTER with Jake Butt...homer prediction: best TE duo in the country by year end
- Grant Perry ready to contribute with his size
- Drake Harris is finally at a decent weight...yaaaaaaay!!!!!
- Lavert needs a plate...redshirt him like we did JD Lewis
- Ty Isaac is a big man
- Wyatt Shallman listed as a LB - sigh, should've been a FB/H-Back from day 1, IMO
- Onwenu at 350, WOW...wouldn't be shocked if they just capped it at 350
- Lawrence Marshall finally big enough to play DE...yaaaaaay!!!! Shelton Johnson at 212? noooooooo!!!!

The funny thing is that Onwenu at 350 is him losing weight. He was at 365 as far as I recall.

Keith Washington will also be there. He's a bit light, but really fast so he could carve out a role as a corner.

Rule #58.4: Everyone is a TE.
Rule #58.5: You can never have enough TEs.

1. Peppers at QB.
2. Butt, Bunting, and Hill/Gentry at TE.
3. Wheatley and Asiasi also at TE.
4. ??????
5. Profit
Don't think he gets much PT this year. Better chance in 2017 after Butt is gone.

The sophomore kicker from Palo Alto.
Anyone know his story?
Is he a preferred walk-on or a true walk-on?
Don't recall seeing his name before.
[edit: Google shows that he played a year at Cal-Poly].

Favorite "Moneyball body" player: Nick Volk, who, at 5'10" 250, must either suffer from a rare bone density disease or be shaped like one of the ghosts from Pac-Man.

There's a freshman offensive tackle named Greg Robinson. Can they put "GERG" on the back of his jersey?
August 7th, 2016 at 11:47 AM ^
I am trying to block GERG from my memory. The nightmares are still with me.
