Never Contact Prospects
Sometimes I hate social media, and its abuse by clueless morans. I just read an account of an absolute idiot. A Michigan fan who doesn't care for ANYTHING in Ohio didn't like the fact that DPJ is rooting for the Cavs to win over the Warriors. So he ended up getting in a twitter fight with a teenager. A prospect. This never ends well.
Moral of the story: never, ever, ever, under any circumstances, contact a recruit. Don't tell a recruit what to do. I hate this so much, I'd like for the mods here to out Wayne Bateman, and ban him from mgoblog, or send him deep, deep into Bolivia. Personally, I don't use twitter, and can't imagine trying to find a recruit with other forms of social media. Just horrible, irritating, wrong. Don't be that guy.
Edit: Here is a pic of Wayne Bateman before he took his twitter account down.
Edit 2: I believe his real name is Chris Grant, and he is from Lima, Ohio, or thereabouts.
it would take hard times for WD to sink that low...
I don't see it happening...

In the famous words of Jim Carrey..."I'm Bat(e)man!"
I've been to Lima more times than I want to remember. That level of douchebaggery is pretty common from what I've been witness too in Lima.
Lima, Peru, that is, instead of Bolivia.
No thanks. We're doing just fine in Lima, Peru without him.
FAKE OUTRAGE!!!
This thread is taking itself much too seriously. I'm sure the recruit has laughed about this and moved on.
Social media: The WORST.
There are some people who should just flat out not have any access to social media. Whenever you think tweeting your opinion at a recruit is a good idea, do yourself and that kid a favor. Stop, turn off the computer, and go to bed.

You put this douche on total blast. I love it!
Why would any grown adult be contacting a high school kid over anything. People need to grow up. You ever been around high school kids you will understand they really are just kids and the obsession people get with them is pretty sad. Let them be kids and when it comes to a recruit, let them choose the school they think fits best for them and don't get all worked up about a 17 year olds college decision.
In my job, I have regular contact with maybe 20 - 30 kids. I really try to be pretty careful with boundaries on Social Media. I don't want to be too chatty . . . although you kind of need to respond in kind to their communication. If you think of Harbaugh, he has had some pretty interesting communication with some prospects. Edgier than many coaches.
The thing is, I don't think I would EVER initiate contact with someone who I didn't already have contact with. It just is a boundary line I don't want to cross. Contacting prospects is just plain creepy to me.
I also think that Internet Anonymity is a scourge. So many people wouldn't even think of doing stuff if they knew that it was being directly linked to who they are. I'm not a big fan of anonymous communication. It leads to trolling, very inappropriate posts, a lack of accountability, all kinds of bad things.
Don't tweet at recruits. Post evalautions of them on a blog and then talk about them in comment sections instead. It's much better because maybe they don't read blogs.
I have long thought about what I would do if I was a billionaire and had nearly unlimited resources and plenty of free time, and what I ultimately decided was that I would start a foundation focused on rooting out idiots on the internet. Everytime someone posted something racist, hateful, etc., this organization would automatically print out a copy and send it to the person's employer and loved ones to shame them. The premise is that if you're willing to say something to (potentially) millions of people on the internet, you should be fine with it being read by those closest to you.
I'm working on my Nobel Peace Prize speech now (do they do speeches? Eh, I've got a few years to figure it out)...
why I dont do the Twitter.
I feel like more bad rather than good occurs with Twitter....plus I spend all my time here and have no time for that other site.
Also, 710ESPN Seattle local radio is loving the JH/Saban war of words....and they are on the side of JH.... saying Saban just cant handle the fact he doesnt own all top recruits now.
Do people really root for the Cavs or are they just rooting for Lebron James? I mean once Halloween passes I stop rooting for the Lions and start rooting for the Patriots but in reality that is only because Tom Brady plays on that team.
Yeah, same here.
I welcome anyone who hates OSU or sparty. Was he drinking? Probably.
