2017 DE Corey Malone-Hatcher announcing on Thursday

Submitted by Magnus on

St. Joseph (MI) St. Joseph DE Corey Malone-Hatcher is announcing his commitment on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. I expect this to be good news for Michigan.

He's a 247 Composite 4-star, the #17 WDE, #247 overall, and #6 in-state.

From the area... Wouldn't say he's lazy, but I believe you're correct in saying that he hasn't played a full season of HS FB yet. In that conference a legit D1 player can take over a game... He has many offers that validate his talent, but yeah the injury bug sometimes hurts prospects big time.

The HS conference is the SMAC. Last kind of "big" prospect was Larry Caper out of BCC.

Also to add onto this. I'm sure most of you know his HS is playing Kal Central in Ann Arbor to open the season.

It's interesting to note Benton Harbor left the conference so St. Joseph will take on U of D Jesuit (I believe) later on in the season. St. Joseph's rival Lakeshore will take on Brother Rice. Good exposure for these schools in the SW corner of the state. Lakeshore has made the playoffs I believe like over 15 times in a row. Will be interesting how they stack up against East side talent. SJ might have some of the best football facilities in the state. Lakeshore shoots off fireworks (literally) when they score.

And to the poster mentioning Donnie Corley.... he may not be from SW Michigan, but Greg Jennings played for K-Central ;)

Getting the pipeline guys to come here is huge. Along with helping us on the field, it starves MSU of talent that they'd been getting the last few years like Corley and Mcdowell.

I'd beg to differ. imhe, Antjuan Simmons from across the street at Pioneer is somewhere in the top 3. It is annoying that he is going to OSU. Horrible to lose him, not that he was Michigan's to lose. I still haven't heard the full scoop on why he didn't like Michigan. And I decidedly got the sense that there was something that really annoyed him about Michigan, including when he was offered.

But I don't want to be a Debbie Downer. 4 out of the top 5 would be great.

I really wanted him to come to Michigan, especially since he went to Pioneer. Shame. I think if Michigan puts enough effort, he could be a flip, but unlikely. I think he was put off by how late Michigan offered him and how Michigan didn't pay him as much attention when recruiting him.

We didn't/aren't recruiting him like we really want him. Michigan had the "Pipeline 9" thing going for several months, and that group of nine didn't include Simmons. I think any in-state kid who's racking up big-time offers but isn't included in that somewhat public group might be a little bit miffed.

I think any group of similar people who are stratified in some way might have some rifts develop. For example, the fourth-best guy on the Miami Heat when they had the "Big Three" might be a little annoyed. It's a somewhat natural feeling, I think. Maybe it's not ideal to air that feeling publicly, but I don't think you can blame him for being a wee bit upset.

There was a news story last week about how Draymond Green can name all 34 (IIRC) players selected ahead of him in the draft. Kind of cool, and maybe it drives him to succeed.

You think the Draymond thing is cool?  I feel like every NBA player drafted in the second round can name all of the people drafted ahead of him.  When I was 10, I could name every player drafted for the last like 10 years or something just from collecting basketball cards.  Being able to memorize and remember 34 names is not exactly a big deal.  My 5 year old can name all 50 states - that is also not rare but more impressive than the Draymond thing, in my opinion.

I don't think that's necessarily true. You think every 2nd rounder can name the draft order that came before him? #1 was Player X, #2 was player Y.......#33 was Player Z...? I have doubts about that.

That's pretty neat that your 5-year-old can name all 50 states. It's a useful skill to know geography.

I'm saying sometimes people need a chip on their shoulder to succeed. We joke about it all the time with Mark Dantonio. Obviously, Green feeling cold-shouldered by other teams/GMs has helped him become a very good player in the NBA. Whatever floats your boat.

than he was getting from our coaches. It's apparent that he wasn't near the top of our LB board. That's what annoyed him. While it would be nice to get a good player from our backyard, we can't take everyone. If we add Drew Singlleton as most expect, we'll be doing very well at LB in this class.
