Who is the Best Athlete you've ever played against?

Submitted by Dr. Emil Shuffhausen on

I don't remember how many yards he had against us his Sophmore

year when we beat them 8-6 on the road,

but his Junior Year he had only 67 yards on 11 carries.

It was 1989 and Saline just beat Dearborn Heights Robichaud for the

2nd year in a row for our first game of the season.

I remember watching the scout film on him with his incredibly long stride

and ridiculous speed.  How the hell we beat them 24-0 at home

will always be a prideful memory.

He was none other than my future favorite

Michigan Running Back -  Tyrone Wheatley.

Erik Namesnik.

Absolutely smoked me in the 400IM. In addition to being a world class swimmer, he had the best attitude of anyone I've ever known in athletics. It's been ten years since he passed away and I still can't beleive he's gone.

Brock Bolen. Played against him in high school. He played fullback at Louisville, then played in the NFL with Jacksonville for 5 years. Dude could fly at 6 ft 230lbs. If Harbaugh could find a clone of this guy, he would be a star at Michigan.

Manny Harris, Ramar Smith (Tennessee), Kyle Visser (Wake Forest) and maybe a few others in high school. In men's leagues played with and against Sugar McLaughlin and a few guys who had a short stint with the Pistons. Also played with the Arizona Cardinals starting left tackle in high school. Best all around athlete I've met though, thretton palamo, played college rugby with a friend of mine, the youngest ever player on the national team, walked on to the Utah football team, and an all out amazing athlete.

Ran the 100m against Mark Ingram during a HS track meet...freakin' torched his ass.

So damn what if he got a cramp halfway through and basically limped to the finish. That ain't mean nothin'!!!

Antonio Daniels and Lawerence Funderburke in basketball. Luke Fickel in football. I went to Columbus St. Francis Desales. I played with Antonio and Luke, aganist Funderburke. Fickel was probably the most intense person I've ever came across he used to foam at the mouth I think thats wht he chews gum on the sidelines. Good guy to bad he went to OSU. We also produced Grant Bowman and Chris Rock both were great at Desales and smart enough to choose Michigan, Rock transfered probably for PT.

I was a wrestler at Ypsi in the early 90s and we wrestled in the same league as Adrian. In 1993 I was a senior co-captain, and in our dual meet against Adrian I wrestled a freshman named Brandan Chesher, who proceeded to basically wipe the mat with me. I basically spent the rest of the year coming in 2nd to him at every tournament.

I couldn't figure out how I was getting beat so badly by a freshman, but it turned out he was kind of good: He went on to win the state championship that year at 112 - then won it the following year at 125, the year after that at 134, and again the following year at 145.

Getting stuck in the same league with a 4x state champion basically ruined my senior season, lol.

Lined up across from Andrew Norwell in high school. It was pretty obvious he was headed to the NFL barring any injuries. He's a current Carolina Panther.............former Buckeye

I made it to nationals for wrestling as a freshman in high school and in the semifinals I wrestled a kid named Ryan Needle. Needle lost 4 matches in 4 years, won 3 state titles, finished 2nd in the nation, and went on to wrestle at Ohio state. Everyone told me I didn't have a shot. I ended up losing 6-3 but placed 4th in the nation. My high school did fave Mike Harts Onandaga team in the state football tourney. I remember watching him zig zag all over the field. The rest of the onandaga team wasn't very good. Hart ran all over us and was the sole reason they won. I didn't know he was going to UM at the time or else I would've gotten an autograph lol.

Curtis Enis was a man amongst boys in rural ohio in the mid 90's. He was by far the biggest player on the field / court every time. We he committed to Penn State I thought he would not be that good in the B1G because of his competition level is HS. I guess I was wrong. He was dunking in 7th grade basketball. I was looking forward to watching his nephew Kiante in the winged helmet but I guess that won't happen.

Jason Collier in Ohio HS basketball tourney. Again men amongst boys. I always thought he was a little lazy on the court because it was so easy fir him. I often wondered if that was a sign of his health issues when he passed and it was found that he had a heart condition.

56ft is a nice toss, I went to nationals with my kid for disc.  He was the best in Minnesota by 10 or so feet.  Then he got to Nationals, he threw 180, good for 4th.  Dude who won went 210.  First time my son was ever beat, funny how you can be elite and some one can be that much better.

Ran track on Stan Edward's (father of Braylon) team when Braylon was in 8/9th grade for a few months... kid was fast even then. Also played 1-on-1 against Aaron Miles (future Kansas PG) as a high schooler, he destoyed me a couple of times, but I got him once.

i mention this because i wish someone had filmed it back in the day, but by NCAA regulations we couldn't take the ice until i think it was sept 1st.  anyway, during training camp the coaches would have us play basketball as part of the cross training, conditioning, etc.   you have never seen anything as funny as a bunch of hockey players playing basketball.  many of the guys on our team went pro so you have some really good athletes, but our idea of what might constitute a 'foul' differed markedly from, say, the rest of the world.

guys like original 'magic' (dave richter, not that msu basketball player), lundy, spears, donnie k, chi, los, oh man, the list goes on.  it was comical and intense.

Played with him -Junior college baseball. I don't think he was 6'3" but was the best pick-up basketball player I've ever seen. Could dunk any way you wanted. Through his legs, 360's and unlimited range. Crazy how good an athlete you have to be to be a pro at anything

a long, long time ago. Just remember him kind of ignoring the rest of us, gliding up and down the court, dropping 3s like pancakes on a griddle. Actually, it's possible there weren't even three point lines on that court. . .

Brent Cummings when he was at Belding was one of those freak athletes that just made everyone else look like kids. I know he went to Michigan at least for a couple years; anyone know what happened to him?

not as good an athlete as some others have played against, but he ran all over our teams. I think he walked on at Michigan, but he may have been a pwo or scholarship player. I don't recall.

I think the best athlete I ever played against was Brian Goodwin. We played against each other at the 2004 and 2005 Southeast Regional in baseball. He was a 1st round pick in 2011.

Best I ever played with was probably Mikie Minor -- 1st round pick in the 2009 MLB draft and now KC Royal.

Best football player I ever played against was probably Marco Dailey. We were a small school in a small division, but he crushed every rushing record in the state of Tennessee. Just didn't have the grades to go anywhere.

Let the drunk driving mugshots flow but the kid was a freak in HS. It actually felt like he was trying to run towards defensive backs just to initiate contact. Saw a playoff game once after our team got killed by East where KG chased/tackled a free safety into the end zone after a 40 yard TD run. Part of me still believes if he could of have just got his shit together and sobered up, he could have been something special. C'est la vie...

Derek Lowe the MLB pitcher.  We played him in basketball and he dropped 50 on us.  He was an incredible shooter.

We also played Detroit Southwestern in hoops when they had Jalen Rose, Jshon Leonard, and Howard Eisley.  The beat us by 60.

Threw shot put against Woodley as a sophomore in high school. He was nice but very scar physically! Played football against Pierre Garcon in college as Mt. Union torched us 48-0 in the playoffs :/

Me too!! 2008-2011 seasons. Chris Greenwood of Albion (drafted by the Lions) covered me man on man wherever I went all game (I played WR). Dude was crazy better than everybody else on the field.

I tackled TJ Duckett by myself. All 175 lbs of myself. Literally lawn darted myself at home while he ran the option. I bounced off but was able to grab his ankles. Still lost 46-29. Dude was friggin huge.

It was summer IM league softball - a few friends and I threw together a team, and we didn't find out until later that the football team also had a team. We lost, but it was a close game at 6 to 4 or something like that.

My team played the football team in IM softball last summer. Shane Morris played left center, and when he threw home we could literally hear the ball coming. It also hit the backstop about ten feet up and to the side of home plate, so basically just like his football throws.

I had to guard Drake Harris (#14 Drake Harris on the team we love). In a 7v7 at Notre Dame I had to guard Cam Denson, currently plays for Rich Rod at AZ. Denson was harder to guard without a doubt, although they both had their way with me.
