The War on Rutgers plot thickens

This is going to shock you but Rutgers has gone back on their outrage over other teams that can easily pluck talent away from them coming and doing camps.

Rutgers has since decided to become an OSU puppet state and is teaming with them and Temple--another team who can actually beat PSU--on a satellite camp.

Rutgers mouthpieces on twitter are claiming this to be a RETURN SHOT OF FIRE!!1 since it is on the same day as our camp at PC.

Durkin is actually getting commits from top talent to Maryland (seriously) while Ash is already running back to mama for help. I just thought I'd throw that out there.

I guess I understand why Rutgers would think it's a good idea to "boycott" the PC camp at all.  Go to the camp, get in front of all of the best recruits in your state, and use Harbaugh to attract talent that you wouldn't otherwise see.

To walk away from that or compete with it is just stupid.

This isn't terrible on their part, actually. Harbaugh is the big name and everything he does is news. Going toe to toe with him is huge PR, even if you can't back it up. Kinda clever.

Agreed.  It's a tactic taken right out of Harbaugh's book.  Pick a fight with the biggest guy on the block.  If he responds, it elevates you up to his status.

Nobody would care if Rutgers was picking a fight with Maryland.

There are not many cards that Rutgers can play, but they are playing this one as hard as they can.

But at the end of the day . . . they are still Rutgers.

They are not.  That "first football game ever played" agianst Princeton was actually a soccer game.

The game is considered to have been the first American football game ever played, but also is seen as being the first college soccer game by some due to the rules under which the game was played more closely resembling soccer.

The world was considered flat for a long time too.  The "first football game" was much, much more like soccer than today's football, or even Rugby:

The rules were based on Football Association's rules of the time, in which two teams of 25 players attempted to score by kicking the ball into the opposing team's goal, but throwing or carrying the ball was not allowed.

It is what it is.

Can we please trade them back to AAC for a team to be named later and some cash? It's not going to be fair dismantling them in every sport year after year after year.

Wonder what kind of reception Greg Schiano will receive on his return to NJ.  Will he help attract players to the FD camp or send them to the PC camp?

Rutgers keeps bringing up there are 1-1 against us. The fact is we didn't play them for 100 years because they suck ass and playing EMU or CMU were tougher opponents.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the big deal here.  Ash is doing a wise thing -- he's co-sponsoring an event with a bigger name school with which he has obvious ties to lure as many local prospects to his event as possible.  I would do the same thing if I were him.  And Michigan is doing the same thing as OSU with Durkin and Maryland.  It's a competition, folks.  May the better team win.

My issue with it is by intentionally scheduling it at the same time you are forcing the kids who want exposure to choose between the two and end up with less exposure than if you scheduled it a different day.  Just comes off as petty.  And if your motto is "fence the garden" while hosting a camp and inviting someone who will eat your lunch in recruiting and on the field it doesn't really follow that motto.

I doubt Durkin would set up a camp in Maryland and invite Harbaugh, nor Narduzzi set up one in Pennsylvania and invite Dantonio.  If Ash wants to compete with Michigan, acting petty like this is not the way to go.  It didn't work for the SEC coaches, it's unlikely to work for Ash.

I get what Rutgers is doing, but it just comes off as petty. Just have the camp in the morning and then the kids will be able to attend both if they choose to do so. I also dont understand why you would team up with OSU. I know they will attract big name kids but 99.9% of said kids will not be interested in your school. Lol Rutgers.

I picture Urban (daddy) giving Ash a two colum list, one colum showing him the players OSU is going to activley recruit and the other colum will be the players Ash is allowed to recruit.

I guess Ash thinks he needs to make headlines to help elevate the profile of his program. This is probably true, but the way he's going about it is petty and alienating the top HS football program in his state.

it's pretty curious that OSU, Temple and Rutgers, which never had much presence in northern NJ suburbs, is now setting up a camp at Farleigh Dickinson, in Teaneck, N.J., along the Route 4 corridor toward the GW Bridge and Manhattan. Paramus Catholic isn't far away; less than 10 miles.

But the high schools in the area including the one I attended are not traditionally known for producing major football talent outside of Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey. Let them eat cake and pretend they are competing, The benefit of these camps is for the campers who attend and receive upper tier coaching, not the schools per se, except to get some program visibility. The kids are well aware of the major programs. This territory by the way has mostly been a Penn State recriting draw and secondarily to Rutgers, only as a fallback program, especiallly before the school joined the Big Ten.

Farleigh Dickinson is best known as a basketball school. So, the fact that they are hosting this event in a suburban industrial area of NJ next to Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Hackensack and Hudson River and the Palisades where publc school football is not major bespeaks a reach of their own design.

Rutgers fans, faithful, coaches, all of the above are absolutely fucking delusional. You mean to tell me they are "upset" at Harbaugh & Michigans success in the state of New Jersey so they invite another premier coach into the state to steal whatever recruits are left?! Hilarious to me.
