OT: ESPN Cuts the Feed on Manning's Presser When He's Asked About The Assault

Submitted by FauxMo on

I didn't see this live, because I'd rather put my testicles on a hot rusty stove than watch Manning drone on about his career, but apparently ESPN cut away from the live feed when Manning was asked by a female reporter about "the allegations from 20 years ago."

Two thoughts: 1. I have very little doubt they did this on purpose, which should dispel everyone's lingering thoughts that ESPN might be a real news organization. 2. Assuming they did do this on purpose, I think they did Manning a great disservice. He seemed prepared to provide a reasonable answer, but this really makes him look like he's avoiding the subject at all costs.

ESPN is the worst. A complete journalistic disgrace of an organization and not much better on the entertainment front. They are the largest reason for the price of cable and the biggest impediment to an a la carte system that works better for individuals.

Why does anyone actually care about this?!?

Even if you take this at its absolute worst possible interpretation, he put his balls as a joke in someone's face. Is there any reason to still be speaking about a ballsack joke 20 years after the fact?!?

And MSM believes you cannot handle the truth. Meanwhile Maria Sharapova, living in "repressive" Russia, believes you can deal with it. Unlike MSM pressters, Sharapova is pretty hot so who you gonna believe? I voted Sharapova as did Archie Manning.

The IDIOT who asked that question must be too dense to realize all she had to do was ask Michigan fans what happened!

Michigan fans are know everything!!!

Believe me, I agree that ESPN lost its usefulness long, long ago, but this is a bit of a stretch.

Why would ESPN cut off Peyton's ability to respond to the question? If it was nefariously trying to protect Peyton, wouldn't it run the conference on a delay and thus, be able to cut off the question itself, rather than the answer? Once the question is asked, the cat is out of the bag and any damage is done. Cutting off Peyton doesn't provide any benefit.

If ESPN is trying to help Peyton by allowing a reporter's question about a scandalous topic to be aired but subsquently cutting off his own answer on the subject, they must have a pretty shitty view about Peyton Manning and his speaking abilities.

It's not about hurting you. It's about your character and no matter if you are on a message board,Facebook, work, or at the bar who you are is who you are. I honestly feel bad for you, I don't have to see you, you do

Man the people on this board are pathetic sometimes, actually more often than not nowadays. This thread is kind of the epitome of where the community has gone.

The reporter Lindsay Jones worked for the Denver Post for many years covering the Broncos and is now at USA Today ...she is the "female reporter" you're too lazy to look up and is a solid professional who was victim of downsizing at the DP, due to the general decline of print media.

Second, what the the obsession with Peyton Manning on this board?  Is it that he lost the Heisman to Woodson and folks can't get over it or is it the current 0-2 streak (8-9 overall) Brady has against the Broncos and everyone is a bandwagon patriots fan..?

Finally, why the fuck would you watch ESPN to then bitch about it?  ESPN sucks.

Most importantly, the presser was on in our office with folks gathered around to watch it and the audio never went out during the event -- before, during or after Lindsay's question.

So ...

was inappropriate at this event. She looked stupid asking it and I was embarrassed for her. It looked to me like she was triple dog dared to ask it.There will be plenty of opportunities if she is really as professional as you say. But to ask this question about an event 20 years ago regarding a sophomoric behavior that was apparently not intended for the complainer was classless and self-promoting. And I don't give a crap about Peyton either.

She took a lot of shit for 'wrong place, wrong time' sort of thing and she deleted some Tweets shed posted after the fact. To me it's really just acknowledging that sports media is in the end, a joke. Sports are NOT serious business, they're a diversion and while "sexual assault" is very much serious, the option to grandstand at the moment was in poor taste and more about Jones getting the attention
